Gotta say, the elements of religion in ds9 are my less favorite, being religious myself. I have no problem with it not being in Star Trek, but then it suddenly is a thing. It's like they're saying, again, they only don't like one specific religion, but all the others are fine.
I also remember Mike complaining that he disliked how current Trek is about destiny and fate and all that... and that's an important aspect of this one show. New trek is trying to emulate Buffy badly, but also ds9.
Their mistake is in doing it season by season. Everything that's truly great about DS9 only gets going once the Dominion is introduced. The first couple of seasons aren't bad by any means, but they're mostly just mid-tier TNG episodes with a pricklier set of characters. You do get Odo, Quark, and some Garak, but none of that on its own is enough to show off what's best about the show.
I think Mike and Rich want people to watch DS9, and talking about the whole show in one video is less likely to inspire people to watch it. Going season by season give people time not only for watching it and catch up, but they can even watch more and watch a next video already they already watched season 2 and 3.
Kids who were big fans of Buffy/Angel.
No I'm not really joking or making it up.
For those who don't know, Angel had a puppet episode.
But... it is within context.
Angel fights demons, and a group of demons wanted children's energy. They did so by posing as puppets in a TV show and when kids watched the show, they hypnotized them to absorb their energy through the screen. When Angel went to confront those demons, he got turned into a puppet himself temporarily.
This works perfectly in a fantasy /supernatural framework, not on scifi.
