So apparently they're going to do Gremlins 3...

Warner Bros. announced Gremlins 3 during its investor call, scheduling the live-action sequel for November 19, 2027, the first in 37 years since the 1990 film. Chris Columbus, who wrote the 1984 original, will direct, with Steven Spielberg returning as executive producer and writers Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein handling the screenplay. The studio highlights the film as a key 2027 release alongside Frozen 3, aiming to revive the franchise's whimsical chaos for a new audience.

They're going to bring back John Glover and make him an even more overt Drumphler insert. Mark my words.

Maybe not, the man's already 81. Doesn't mean they can't bring in some Trump clone horseshit played by another actor, of course.

There is really no universe in which this is a good idea.

Have there been any decent movie franchise continuations in recent years? Mainstream movies have been consistently terrible for the last decade or so. Even if a new movie is OK in all other aspects, it usually looks terrible because of modern color grading trends (everything's super dark and often yellow to boot). I'm glad I still have dozens of pre-2000 movies to watch. If there's any movie-related redpill these days, it's that analog movies DO look much better in general than overtuned, fake looking nightmares.

Speaking of old shit, I just watched Blue Sunshine, and I can't recall either MST3K [but I only watch Joel-era] or RLM covering it, so have they?

I rewatched an old RLM video recently of Mike and Rich talking about Star Trek, and this may be my favorite Rich Evans line. I keep repeating it like a lunatic.

As much as I want Gremlins 3, you just know it's going to be another legacy sequel that apes every aspect of the first movie while diluting everything that made it special. And you just know they wont go full practical like it deserves, and instead CGI it up. But I will cope and lie to myself that maybe it will be good.

RLM definitely never reviewed it or had a longer discussion about it. I saw it last year and I can't remember a single thing except the bald heads.

It's going to have endless callbacks (i.e soft reboot but disguised as a "sequel"), and it will probably have random blacks and already dated contemporary politics thrown in.
The poster will say "Gremlins" and there will be three claw-marks under it. They will avoid referencing Gremlins 2 as much as possible.

it's going to be the type of slop that Kevin Smith type dudes in their 40s 50s cry in the theater at. Aside from Back to the Future, it is one of the last properties for 80s manchildren that has yet to be raped.
I am looking forward to the director of Pixels to fuck this up. Maybe we will get a good HiTB out of it at least.

also I was going to originally include the Goonies as one of the last properties, but nothing is ever really gone apparently.

I'm guessing nobody here has seen the gremlins cartoon that was already released?

There was a fan film made that was pretty decent.

Patreon Update:

Hello everyone! We're currently working on a new Half in the Bag episode that we're calling our "Halloween Hangover" episode, basically catching up on some of the October horror movie releases as well as discussing the fact that October 2025 was the worst October Box Office in about 30 years! There were a lot of horror movies released in October too but nearly every one of them was a bust. In addition to that, we're planning a Best of the Worst spotlight episode for a movie that almost made it into the lineup for the Halloween episode, but it was decided the movie would make everyone too miserable and ruin the day. So it'll be more of a blacklight episode than a spotlight. Winter is upon us, so I guess it's time to get miserable!

The new Hellraiser movie was pretty decent, literally the only one I can think of. It had its issues but I thought that did okay. I liked Alien Romulus as well, but some people seemed to hate it and both the Prometheus movies were dogshit.

That reminds me, he Zach really hyped this 2021 thing up like it was going to be a Gremlins 3 announcement, but turned out to be a lame Mountain Dew ad.

His wiki:

In early 2021, Galligan appeared in a Mountain Dew commercial in which his Gremlins character, Billy, gives Gizmo a drink of his Mountain Dew.<a Galligan returned to the Gremlins franchise again in 2022, in the animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai.

BTW oddly there's no mention on if he'll be in 3 or not. They'll probably have some black dude be the lead and he and Cates will do a 5 second cameo or something horrible.

Unless I missed some cancellation, wasn't the wife killer supposed to be on BOTW about now? I thought it would be the Halloween one or the one after, but it seems unlikely that this will be the one. I am not complaining ofc, but I doubt they'd be inviting him on to watch another miserable thing considering how he reacted to that the last time. Also a horror movie that makes everyone miserable for a blacklight episode? Makes me wonder if they are finally giving "Things" the proper BOTW treatment, since those spotlights are usually about good-bad movies they've sat on for a while. Though probably not since IIRC they haven't done any other good-bad movie that they covered on HITB over a decade ago.

I honestly hope she doesn't return and instead continues to enjoy her retirement from Hollyweird in peace. She's wonderful in the first two films, and they'd make her do and say stupid shit. She actually left acting to raise her children, which is a personal choice I will always respect.

Wasn't Pinhead gender-swapped and played by a troon in the new one? I know Clive Barker famously hates the name "Pinhead" and is also a faggot himself whose motivation for the originals was partially to push what was then "edgy" kink so it's not a big shocker to see him mangle the series' most popular and well-known character while simultaneously letting a pervert have the spotlight too.
