The Kellers "educate" with the same IBLP workbooks the Duggars used. Their children have no education to speak of.

For Pris in particular, she isn't capable of graduating from a real high school without extensive SPED help and the six year graduation plan due to her TBI. She's a remarkably pretty but completely empty vessel, and the fact that she got matched with the new leader of IBLP is shocking because she's got the mental capacity of a six year old. Her gay husband keeps her constantly pregnant, and she goes about her days as placidly as a broodmare - but there's no way she can homeschool their kids. It'll be interesting to see of David brings on a sister-wife "mother's helper" to take care of that.

Taking bets now: how likely is it that those campaign funds were not so much "spent" as embezzled? The Duggars' money situation was always shady AF. Apparently there is a ton of property/money hidden under various LLC's and while the Duggs preached against debt and government assistance, before TLC came along they got everything, including their house, via mooching off of their church.

that's why I said "consistent homeschooling;" the Duggars clearly didn't get that.

and I am certainly not saying that IBLP is good. I am saying that done consistently it will produce basic 8th grade level literacy and numeracy which is something equivalent public schools fail at. Kids in the public schools around them *also* don't get consistent adequate education. You will find kids equally ignorant in those schools.

I think it's really important to constantly hammer on the point that people would never have pulled their kids out and tried this experiment if the schools hadn't failed so bigly. The US had an excellent public school system available to everyone that was deliberately destroyed. Fundamentalist homeschooling is a direct result of this.

gut instincts are important but can also be turned up too high or down too low because of our own personal histories

when people are working with children in reputable ethical organizations everyone has to do trainings that teach people what kinds of behavior need oversight and when exactly to report, becasue instinct isn't enough

That was probably by design. Priscilla is a sweet girl but she is slow and lives in her own little world and so she’ll never notice that David is so gay he practically shits rainbows and glitter. He gets a passive, compliant beard and she gets someone who will house and feed her and keep her from wandering into traffic. (I hate to say that about her, but she seriously could have and probably still would benefit from some occupational therapy and other services for sped adults.)

There's really no concrete background. It's all speculation. Some people have said (unconfirmed) that Mike Keller (her father) has a genetic disorder. What is "known" is that Priscilla and Daniel claimed that Pris was a "miracle" baby and they were so happy her parents didn't abort her. Apparently, some doctor told Ma and Pa Keller that Pris should be terminated because "the child born before her had spina bifida". Now, that's NOT something a doctor would say, but...they don't operate in reality. Priscilla was premature (although, how early isn't known). This led some to speculate that she may have had a brain bleed or developmental delays because of her genetics and her birth weight.

1) Her difficulties in expressive and receptive speech.

Well, the campaign finance documents are in the news story I linked to, and reports are that he started spending a LOT of money near the end of the trial for campaign advertising. Billboards galore. He had to spend quite a bit, any way you slice it.

Besides, it's MUCH funnier if he dropped a shitload of his own money to try to get elected to a STATE Senate seat, and got his ass handed to him so badly.
