Jill was brought up in an absolute horror quagmire of abuse and trauma, had two horrible childbirths (in which it was implied that both times, although the borg wouldn’t admit openly, that her and the boys’ lives were in some danger) in a fairly short period of time and immediately following the first one had to go public with the whole “yeah our brother diddled us but we have to forgive him BECAUSE JESUS!!”
Derick went through losing his dad and nearly losing his mom in a short time. Then, he went through major jaw surgery, nearly lost his wife and kid and learned that his seemingly nice father in law who initially offered him a sympathetic ear after all that was a lying, controlling, abuse enabling piece of shit and his brother in law was a slimy pedo who molested his sisters.
These two had a metric shitton of garbage dropped on them that they had to wade through and process and it’s unrealistic as hell to expect them to flip a switch and go full SUPAR ENLIGHTENED WOKE HEROES. Jesus Christ. The fact that they’re making a hugely better life for their kids than what Boob and Incubator gave Jill and her siblings is pretty damn admirable.

I don't agree with Derick on most things but even the Liberal Atheist Bodyguard (who pulled no punches in criticizing people like Anna) in his AMA has gone to bat for the dude and swears up and down that he is a loving and supportive husband and father and thinks that sub is way, way too hard on them. The man endured multiple days listening to a litany of disgusting acts committed by a member of his family, listened to people try and defend it, listened to a recount of the abuse the mother of his children went through. And the entire time he has reserved his fury and ire towards the people responsible: Josh and Jim Bob.
Meanwhile these so called advocates are obsessed with insulting a CSA survivor because she says some stupid shit about gay people that is still a much more compassionate stance than the one her cult drilled into her.
I also like the people who hold it against him that he bolted from the cult because Jim Bob wouldn't help with the medical bills. The medical bills resulting from the dangerous delivery of his son. A delivery that was filmed for the show that Jim Bob makes money from. As if that isn't a 100% understandable and logical reason for someone to realize that there is arsenic in the kool-aid and bolt. If the man was really as much of a grifter as they claim, he'd have sold his tell-all years ago. Instead, he's waited while his wife heals. Fuck, he even makes sure he has Jill's approval before he posts his various social media shpeils about her family. The man shows a deep abiding concern for the feelings and needs of his wife despite meeting her in an environment that treats doing so as heresy. Give him a fucking break.
