The thing is --- I agree that Derick's twitter rant on Jazz was fucking awful and shitty of him.
And part of the reason it was bad was because some of the points he made were valid (not the transgender is a myth stuff --- yeah, yeah, downvote me, whatevs. Just don't bother arguing, I will not respond). But the stuff about TLC and Jazz being exploited were, in fact, on point. And in my opinion, that made what he said worse. You don't have to be waving around a trans flag or even embrace trans people or whatever. But maaaaaybe when voicing concern for a child that is being exploited, don't shove your views about said child's gender identity in there? It's not like Jazz and thousands of other trans kids were going to see what he said and go, "Yeah, you know what? Transgender IS a myth! I'm throwing away my hormones and emancipating myself!" No, they were all going to feel like shit and dismiss him as a bully, and not without basis. It was shitty and stupid and immature and he was a grown ass man who would have made a much stronger point by going in on Toddlers and Tiaras.
So keep in mind, I AM saying this as someone who thinks what he did was shitty:

I'll respect your pronouns even if I don't agree with it." I'm paraphrasing, but not that much. He did literally say he was fine with pronouns in that video. Is that my favorite approach to things? But he's not a monster for it and it does not need to be a fucking addendum on every fucking thing he does ---- especially in the midst of him supporting his traumatized wife and calling out the corrupt, hypocritical pieces of shit who enabled her abuse and that of her sisters.
The people who like to pretend he just wants to ride the gravy train piss me the fuck off, too.
He broke away when his so-called family were not willing to help him pay to keep his wife and son alive. After giving his time and privacy away for free to their "ministry" and being lied to for years. Even though doing so directly contributed to Jim Bob's income.
We know what a son in law simply sucking on Jim Bob's teet looks like and his name is Ben Seewald. Derick left Counting On after the birth thing (it wasn't because of the Jazz thing, he and Jill had already quit the show and both he and TLC confirmed this) and then Door Dashed his way through law school. Fuck, even Austin has benefitted from Jim Bob's largesse far more than Derick has.
Is Derick a bit of an attention whore? Sure, but wanting attention isn't an inherently bad thing and if he is channeling that impulse toward verbally eviscerating his wife's abusers: GOOD. If more people channeled their less-altruistic impulses like that, the world would be much better off.
All these so-called advocates just refuse to accept or appreciate the fact that shit like this is a fucking process and some people have more things occupying their mind-space than this gender or that. Like, say, trying to provide for your family while furthering your education and helping your wife heal from emotional, psychological, spiritual and sexual trauma.
And even if he and Jill came out tomorrow wrapped in trans flags screaming "Fuck the patriarchy and death to capitalism", these same people demanding PROGRESS NOW would sneer and go, "They're just doing it for attention/to sell a book/be trendy."
Not to mention: Jill was literally raised in a fucking cult. Despite how these assholes sneer at people who bring this up: Yes, it is very promising and impressive that she is willing to send her kids to a real school, get a nose ring, and keep charging ahead with her progress (at the very real and awful cost of being cut off from the very children she raised, might I add. God, Jim Bob could not be a bigger piece of shit if he tried.)
As far as I'm concerned, right now Derick and Jill are being the best versions of themselves under seriously shitty circumstances and hanging their less-glowing moments on the current situation they're in like that's the primary thing in all of this is super fucking shitty. I mean, I think of what Derick had to listen to and consider in that court room and the more I think of it, the worse it gets.
1) His wife's abuse was way worse than he'd been told and his father in law had done way more to cover it up and protect the abuser than any of them knew
2) Her rapist wasn't just any old rapist, but the type who straight up gets off to watching babies getting raped to death.
3) This man has had access not only to his wife but also his children
4) All while his wife is barred from being around the children she raised and her childhood home without supervision
5) This man's legal fund is being paid for by the same so-called father who refused to help pay to keep his wife and child alive
6) Oh and the man who has funded and enabled all this is running for state senate and dismissing all his critics as cancel culture leftists.
(Oh, and as a lovely little bonus, apparently at one point during court, one of the images from one of the worst things Josh was looking at did accidentally get exposed to the audience. Imagine seeing a still from DD and knowing that the man who was jerking off to it has had your son on his lap.)
How many people in this world would be able to spend hours upon hours in courtroom, confront all this, and not only keep their composure but also stay cordial to those around them? Derick did that for five days so that he could find out the truth and support his wife as much as possible.
But whatever hahahaha Derick didn't pass the Bar last July what a LOOOOOOOOOOOSER! Spend more time STUDYING, DWRECK!!!! Maybe if you were a little less LAZY and MESSY you wouldn't just have your measly Juris Doctor or whatever. (Though I'll admit I do like the jokes about him being a messy bitch. And that's not even getting into picking on JILL. The one person who actually tried to hold Josh accountable when someone needed to (The child. Not the adults) and got punished, shamed, mocked, and publicly humiliated for it. The woman who had to hear her molester joke about how she "tattled" on him for molesting her and her little sisters. Who, as a child, was almost certainly asked, per Gothard's teachings, "Did you do something to cause the abuse?" And probably had to hear her little sisters ask the same thing. Who was paraded out in front of Megan fucking Kelly and listen to her sister go on about how it was "just a quick feel." Who was made to publicly defend her rapist (or she'd fail God and his true ministry, don't ya know!) on National TV when she was 2 months post-partum following a dangerous birth.

Taking bets now: how likely is it that those campaign funds were not so much "spent" as embezzled? The Duggars' money situation was always shady AF. Apparently there is a ton of property/money hidden under various LLC's and while the Duggs preached against debt and government assistance, before TLC came along they got everything, including their house, via mooching off of their church.

It's one of the reasons I respect Sadie Carpenter from Leaving Eden because she doesn't play that shit. She has said up and down that she was exactly where Jill and Derick are just a couple of years ago.
