Here are the Pokemon from the beta of Gold
One thing I find interesting is that Umbreon was originally going to be Poison Type(dark type still existed in the beta). That explains why its early dex entries often brought up the fact that it secreted toxins, rather than anything that might connect it to the Dark typing.
Also a crapton of pre-evolutions for Pokemon that never did get them, same with evolutions(though there were a few that eventually got similar things in Gen IV, like the Mr. Mime pre-evolution and the Tangela and Lickitung evolutions)
Also the Pinsir evolution shares many physical traits with heracross
@D.Va my theory on the placements of those three and beta-leafeon are because they are last minute additions, seeing as in Gen 1 Pokemon were coded in by the order they were created, rather than their Pokedex number. A lot of the Hoenn Pokemon in Gen III were not coded in by Pokedex number, most notably Chimecho being after Deoxys, probably as a last minute addition itself.
Back in Gen VI, in an interview GF were asked if they would ever do 4 or more stages in a Pokemon line(as in actual 4th stage evolutions, not Megas which were talked about earlier in the interview). They said they've thought about it in the past and it wasn't impossible for them to someday do so, they just needed to make sure it was balanced if they ever implemented it.

In terms of the "never before seen Pokemon" that was teased, I get the feeling it might be Gorochu. Given that when mentioning cut mons from Gen 1, Gorochu seemed to have a specific mention. Admittedly, if true, it would mean that the Pikachu family becomes a four stage family. Of course, I'm most likely very wrong, but given how Pikachu is the series mascot, I also wouldn't be surprised if this ultimately happened.
