look how they massacred my boy.

We’re about ~13 minutes away from today‘s Pokémon Direct.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=7QiLe4pTHAE
I believe you got an EXP Share from Dawn's/Lucas' father on Route 206 if you have 35 or more Pokémon registered in your PokéDex.

Gen 3 had its own issues completing the National Pokêdex at first thanks to it being sealed off from Gens 1 and 2, rendering a big amount of the Johto section of it incomplete. FRLG, Emerald, and the GCN games helped fix that issue.
Yay, more mobile game garbage and another DLC for the price of a full gen 4 game at MSRP! TPC’s CEO looks more and more like the leader of the bad guy team of the pokemon franchise IRL in every subsequent appearance.

Would love a pokemon game where you don’t have any barriers to migration and could pick a single pokemon you have from an earlier game to start with or at least be relevant to the fucking plot around gym 7/8 and not the postgame because the whole “friendship” thing is nothing but lipservice and a hidden mechanic to get a crobat without it.

It would be like the Ash anime whenever he reunited with his former pokemon.

Eh, it was an okay stream.
The WC stuff was fluff we already knew about outside of the specialty merch for the champions and the craptastic promo every participant gets. The promo being garbage is actually a plus for a lot of players, Tropical Beach is seen in a fair amount of Expanded decks and Champion’s Festival was rumored to have some weird synergy with Gardevoir ex decks.

Pokémon: Path to the Peak (the TCG-centric animated series looks like quasi-Pixar shit and I’m not gonna watch it. The only approving nod of they get from me is the “Path to the Peak” subtitle, they at least recognize some of the recent “meta” TCG cards currently being run.

Eh, I didn’t play the original Detective Pikachu and I more than likely won’t play this one.

I started to peter out of the anime when Gen IV rolled out and I haven’t watched it since and I’m not gonna start that up again and watch this new iteration.

I’ve always wanted to attend an IRL GO Fest event but I’ve been stuck with the Global runs ever since they started doing ‘em. And Niantic introducing Paldean Pokémon before they even finished adding in the rest of the Alolan and Galarian ‘dexes (and Hisui to some extent) boggles the mind but isn’t unprecedented, they did this with Galar a while back and they were still adding Unovan and some Sinnoh Pokémon to the game.

I don’t really care for Pokémon Unite, Masters EX, or Cafe Mix so I can’t say much about those.

I’m surprised that they’re dropping both the old GB TCG game and Pokémon Stadium 2 are dropping later today. I just wish that they’d figure out what the fuck is going on with the Switch’s control stick and some of the mini-games, I can only do bottom-row and top-row throws in Ekan’s Hoop Hurl for some unknown reason.

I have a feeling that Pokémon Sleep could help me out with tracking my sleep patterns but I’d rather not have another Niantic app on my phone.

Pokémon: Paldean Winds looks interesting but I never kept up with Twilight Wings when it was revealed. I may or may not watch it.

The Mew and Mewtwo stuff was leaked a while ago but it‘s nice to see that we can ALL get a free Mew for Scarlet and Violet without shelling out for a Poké Ball Plus (I don’t think they even make them anymore).

The Teal Mask DLC looks neat. I like the new evolution Applin gets in it and I think its Supersweet Syrup Ability (lowers the evasiveness of opposing Pokémon when it first enters battle) will piss off Smogon something fierce if it has decent stats. The unique look that Ogrepon gets when it Terastalizes seems to confirm the Tera Mask stuff that was leaked a while back but I’m still taking that with a grain of salt. I’m also glad to see that the ”better competitive stuff pops up in the DLC” continues with the form of mochi, I think this is also the second time we’ve seen an item that completely reset a Pokémon’s EV gains (the reset bag in XY’s Super Training feature is the first). I’m also glad to see that this shit releases next month rather than at the tail-end of November like I expected.

The Indigo Disk DLC is okay, they’re keeping some stuff vague for later news drops but I‘m patient. The Elite Trial stuff is basically a retread of Gym Trials but that bit about giving one of them giving Koraidon/Miraidon temporary full flight and hinting at the ability to fully unlock it is definitely a nice bit of info. Archaludon is an interesting evolution that opens up the potential for Eviolite Duraludon whilst also putting itself into an interesting place with its two main abilities (Stamina/Sturdy). The League Club stuff looks like it’s a substitute for the Crown Tundra’s Galarian Star Tournament with its ability to make key Trainers from Paldea into special instructors and rebattle them. I’m disappointed that we don’t have a proper release date for The Indigo Disk but I’m guessing it’ll be in early December if not earlier.

That last bit about our adventures in the DLC areas will “lead you back to to Paldea“ and asks us “what could the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero be?” makes me believe that we might get a third part to the combined story that the DLC is bringing just like the base game did with its three story paths leading into its “The Way Home” finale. Unlike a lot of people here I actually like the way Paradox Raikou looks and Paradox Cobalion is one of the few Violet Paradox Pokémon I don’t actually hate.

look how they massacred my boy.
To be honest I had a feeling that Paradox Raikou (the official name is Raging Bolt) was either going to be based off of a pterosaur or some form of sauropod due to Raikou’s storm theme. Ironically enough I was leaning more towards the latter in part due to brontosaurus meaning “thunder lizard” in Latin.

Also, the official art looks a bit more bearable than its in-game look even if some people will compare it to Horizon: Zero Dawn’s Tallnecks.

- This art style needs die. This looks awful and I hate the minority pandering.

- A bunch of mobile bullshit...

- Pokemon Gameboy TCG and Stadium 2 coming to switch sounds fun.

- The Teal Mask looks like it actually has a competent narrative which is neat.

- But The Indigo Disk is just more school life sim which doesn't particularly interest me. Then again I don't have SV so oh well.

This was a very underwhelming presentation. At least I might be able to have fun with the Stadium mini games for a while and I've never played the GBC card game so I'm looking forward to that.

Yeah, this reeks of it being a TPCi production since Championship Points (which are awarded to Play! Pokémon competitors that place well in events like League Challenges/Cups, Regionals, and International Challenges) are straight-up mentioned in the trailer.

Just started Violet for the first time and holy shit

What's up with the character designs? Everyone looks horrendous. It's like they picked a lone subject and then tried to craft a humanoid figure around it, it's so offputting to me to see all these extreme hairdos and clothing. Now, i havent played a main series title in a while, but i dont remember the characters ever looking this bad before.

Nemona is the only decent design so far, and that's just because of how basic it is, when compared to everything else, she shines.

I bet the random trainers you find were all created with a randomizer. They have zero personality at all in their looks.

Holy fucking kek
My abysmal expectations have somehow been lowered even further
Give me a minute, I'm gonna do a write-up

Pokemon Presents coming on August 8th. My prediction was only a week or two off, I am clearly a clairvoyant. :smug:

1691159569148.png

Okay, but seriously- what are you guys expecting? It's supposed to be about 35 minutes long and it has its own unique little teaser, so I think there'll be a bunch of DLC news and maybe some announcements for spin-offs or other media as well. I might be jumping the gun a bit here but it feels like it's building up to something sorta big. At the very least, I can't remember the last Presents that got its own 15 second trailer like this. Considering the teaser i'm almost tempted to say there'll be a focus on Detective Pikachu- possibly a revival of the movie's sequel- considering how much emphasis there is on the neon, but honestly I'm not getting my hopes very slightly raised. I'll just watch on Monday and see what happens.

EDIT: I will watch on Monday after the fact because I just remembered about something else that's more important and at the exact same time, whoops. Regardless, I'll do a write-up on it after the presentation if nobody else has by the time I've gone through it all.
Alright, so:
  • Present starts with World Championship news which is irrelevant to the outside world. Merch announcement and clarification of dates I think.
  • Goes on to Detective Pikachu Returns "news". Apparently there's some sort of helper system with Pokemon you meet aaand... that's it. Oh yeah, it releases on October 6th. They spent like 6 minutes of the Direct on this.
  • Next up is info we already know- Nemona is coming to Masters today with Pawmot.
  • Similar situation- Tatsugiri is now available in Pokemon Cafe Remix and there's some kind of special promotion around in-game currency around the same time.
  • Pokemon Sleep is having events, apparently? On the night of the full moon your "Drowsy Power" will be boosted.
  • Two new animated series- one already mentioned here:

  • (called "Path to the Peak"), and another named Paldean Winds that's supposed to be a slice-of-life anime. Seems like some kind of drama, maybe. Winds releases on September 6th and has the usual anime art style.
  • Character designs suck aaaasssss though. They're either too generic (fat kid) or just plain bad (blue-haired guy). Standard fare.
  • The usual anime also got a trailer, except it's literally fucking nothing. No release date, no nothing, just some b-roll of the aired episodes in Japan with a Pikachu squeak and a "Coming Soon". There isn't even voice acting lmfao
  • Paldean Pokemon will be available in GO starting from September- I don't think they gave a specific date. Also there are GO Fests throughout the month in specific places and a global one in late August.
  • Mew distribution in Scarlet/Violet with randomized Tera, Nature, IVs, etc. Meant to fight against the upcoming Mewtwo 7-star raid that doesn't have a unique Tera type and runs throughout the first three weeks of September.
  • Pokemon TCG (on Gameboy) coming to Switch Online, as is Stadium 2. Stadium 2 probably still necessitates rentals and has no connectivity, but at least you can play the minigames online!
That's everything outside of SV DLC.
It took up a collective ~25 minutes of the presentation.
As one of the YouTube comments says- I am astounded by TPC's ability to pad for time!
Anyways, there's everything I don't have thoughts on out of the way. Serebii is really funny right now because he has wild typos under every section of the article, so if you want to hear more dry info with a side of autism then go look at his site.
I'm just gonna rant for the rest of this.

Give us $35 and you can use PkHex in an official game!
1691520734688.png
Give us $35 and you can play the exact same minigame you played in Legends Arceus, just with a different mount!
1691520817523.png
Give us $35 to use extremely basic photo mode features that should not have been fucking paywalled!
1691520890757.png
Give us $35 or you'll be locked out of future in-game events for not having DLC!
1691521102262.png
Give us $35 dollars to use the Mega Evolution/Gigantamax equivalent of this generation!
1691521206380.png
1691521244398.png

Why not pay us $35 to unlock one extremely lazy and one extremely overdesigned evolution for Pokemon that clearly should've gotten them (didn't need them in the slightest compared to many other mon in the dex) within the generation they debuted in (the one immediately before this one, might I add), one of which has an incredibly overpowered debuff move that lowers speed for 3 turns straight (alongside dealing damage) and lowers evasiveness upon entering battle?
1691521539787.png 1691521620222.png

Or how about paying $35 for some of the worst desecration of old Pokemon design you will ever lay your eyes upon?
1691521787125.png 1691521895977.png 1691521926411.png

How about giving us $35 dollars to unlock the permanent flight ability we made to be limited and incredibly frustrating to use in the base game?
1691522010663.png

Or handing over those $35 to do basic things you could in past games like decorating a room (not yours btw), rematching gym leaders, changing how you throw pokeballs, or clicking on text boxes to learn worldbuilding we were "unfortunately unable" to integrate into the game?
1691522214251.png 1691522286885.png 1691522173133.png

Alternatively, you could just hand that $35 over to be able to coom more easily while you play. Coom coom coom coom coom.
1691522412754.png 1691522492106.png 1691522452872.png 1691522539124.png 1691522472206.png

Oh, and we promise there's a reason for that title. It totally connects back to Area Zero somehow, totally. We promise. 100%. We just won't tell you even a single thing about how, or if you'll be unlocking new areas there, or if anything interesting will happen.
1691522871780.png

Don't wait! Preorder today! The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero (a big middle finger with your cash in its fist) awaits!

Alright, rant aside, it's worth noting that i'm not actually mad. I mean- I am, a little, but this rant was done in jest. I've been watching too much RadicalSoda as of late for me not to attempt a pale imitation of his unhinged rants. I don't actually give a shit because I won't be purchasing anything; I haven't since Arceus, and before then nothing since Ultra Sun.

I'm just amused by how blatantly and loudly TPC is basically stating "Yep! We have nothing to show you for this DLC that you haven't already seen. Nothing good, anyways. Now give us even more of your money!"

It's the same kind of humor I get from watching The Sims 4 continue to eat shit and die while its fans cheer it on and applaud (or grumble a little, but they still buy it anyways) for the 47th Kit released that year!
Something I love (or once loved) being repeatedly beaten to death, shat on, tarnished, etc while you huff your own farts about how right you are for not buying it anymore. That kind of humor. The only coping mechanism left for the empty consoomerist soul.

All of this looks like dog shit and not worth the price, but that was a given from the word go.
All of the new designs are somehow stooping even lower than the already beneath-ground bar of quality set for them in the base game, but that was to be expected.
The only decent character design is Briar (I say decent and not good because I think her outfit is kind of too loud for her hair and the kind of character she seems to be), the only decent POKEMON design is Terapagos' terastalized form, and all of this would've made me cry if I was still 8 years old. But I'm not, so I don't. Instead, I laugh!

Because seriously, how the fuck can someone honestly claim that the art style and design philosophy hasn't degraded when being presented with shit like this?
1691523583195.png

In closing, I shall leave you all with this.
1691523629329.png
Fucking lol.

And to this day, I'm still happy that I haven't got Scarlet, yet

As bad as the DLC pricing is, I just noticed one thing that's funny to me. They're adding Scarlet and Violet Pokémon to GO like it's a huge deal...but isn't GO still missing a majority of the Sword and Shield Pokémon? I don't think the starters are even in it yet.

Couldn't catch the stream but just got done catching up.
I had no idea they had this many spin-offs around currently, yet Pokemon Mystery Dungeon isn't among them. Considering the absolute state of Pokemon it might be for the better to not see it dragged through the mud.
The storylines for the DLCs sound neat and it'd be cool to see Larry or Rika again with that invite thing they showed off but I still can't see myself getting the DLC when I can't be sure whether the Battle Tower is in or not.
And I don't know whats worse, it missing entirely or it being pay walled when it was already the bare minimum for postgames in previous gens.

No clue. I just find it funny that it took Niantic 7 years to add any Pokemon from every single gen and they're still not done
when all they probably need to do is, like, program spawn locations and evolution candy amounts
because all the moves are already in a moveset that can be very easily tweaked to be missing 90% of its components
and the models have been done since 2012

I still can't see myself getting the DLC when I can't be sure whether the Battle Tower is in or not.
From what I can discern, it's been replaced with paywalled gym leader rematches and a shitty rehash of Island Trials from Alola. I have a hard time believing they wouldn't've mentioned a Battle Tower in this Presents if it was returning.

Apparently the song in the presents was stolen from a fan?

1691530513533.png
On the one hand, I don't care because copyright only serves to benefit megacorps and it should be abolished so I can sell romhacks at my local farmer's market.

On the other hand, what a bitch move.

Pokemon ranger hasn't been considered in over a decade either. Though what killed that series imo was making it more shonen. Shadows of Almia was the best one. Would be neat to have an entry that lets you use the entire regional dex instead of a handful of wild pokemon throughout the game

Loved that it had connections to the mainline gen 4 games by allowing you to transfer the manaphy egg and a unique darkrai for the post game. You also didn't need to go through some autistic subscription service such as Pokemon bank in order to do it.

In light of this, I fel that I need to replace the Bellsprout line with a Paradox Dunsparc evolution in my hack. While a Past Victreebell would fi the Pas theme, I knew that I needed th extra space, while I was wondering about putting a reference to Dunsparce apparently being able to fly in the past, anyways.

In total, the additions to my hack are:
  • Past Dunsparce
  • Applin
  • Appletun
  • Flapple
  • Dripplin
  • Normal Terapagos
  • Duraludon
  • Archaludon
  • Past Raikou
  • Future Cobalion
  • Past Entei
  • Future Terrakion
Wi the omissions, that would leave 2 slots without moving th Egg. If I need more room, I might replace the Scolipede line with a smaller line or get rid of a few betamon.

On evolutions:
  • Applin evolves into Appletun with igh friendship, since that fits how people tend to be fond and protective of Appletun.
  • Applin evolves into Flapple wi the Leaf Stone, since they are both Grass types.
  • Applin evolves into Dripple wi the Sun Stone, since not only is the Sun Stone also associated with Grass types, but Dripple has this melted appearance, even though that may be a reference to caramel-dipped apples.
  • Dunsparce volves into Past Dunsparce with either the Paleo Feed or Brick Piece.
  • Duraludon evolves into Archaludon wi the Moon Stone, since I fel that Archaludon's dark colour scheme fit a nightly theme.
  • Normal Terapagos evolves into Terastal Terapagos with igh LV (probably 54 or 72, multiples of 18, representing the 18 types), since the pokegold engine would probably have trouble with formes, and such a possibly strong legendary would need some sort of anti-OP measure.
You probably noticed that I added a past Entei and Future Terrakion. That is because, with Paradox formes of two parts of a trio, Paradox formes of the remaining members are inevitable. Ierven feel tha these trios are going to be polymerised into the imaginary fusions that appeared in those sketches.
I wonder what is going to happen to Keldeo, though. The legendary beasts do not really have a fourth member, the closest one bring that design done in that character design class tha the designer of the legendary beasts taught once (which I recycled into a mon called 'Tenshou' in my hack).
