So that trailer showed more new Pokémon than just Farigiraf. The mini map in the right hand corner was not present in the Japanese version of this trailer & this is why.

We got two mice that seem to be a pair, a parakeet & a rock mushroom.
Besides this Internet autists also found the pre evolution to Armarouge & Ceruledge at the Team Star base.

The what is assumed to be the pre evolution of Cetitan behind the camera UI in this ice area.

Finally what is presumed to be the pre evolution to the engine Pokémon they still haven't acknowledged is a Pokémon yet.

The game is visually rough in a lot of places, but gameplay-wise this is just a straight upgrade from Gen 8 with some QOL stuff from Arceus (minus the super addicting catching method, sadly). November is going to destroy my wallet at this rate.

It looks like TMs are now back to single-use items (?), since there's a TM crafting machine. I already don't like how they're trying to make it more tedious to get them, especially when if it's an important one like Earthquake. Although I haven't played Sword and Shield, I heard things about how certain TRs (single-use, equivalent to the TMs pre Gen 5) could be annoying to get. Maybe I'm too used to the Gen 6 and 7 games, since you can get all the BP you need for Move Tutor moves with Bank.

I think any potential tedium is suppose to be mitigated through the auto-battle feature. Like while you're out in the wild doing whatever, you can have your leading pokemon go around and grind for resources.

So with the initial Pokedex leak seemingly being legit, I'm looking over what else is on it. I always thought there should be a flamingo & dolphin Pokémon. Also like that Dunsparce & Girafarig are getting evolutions, but apparently Girafarig's evolution drops the duel Normal type to just be a pure psychic type. Finally I'm trying to figure out what the hell the three stage Fairy/Steel pink hammer Pokémon is going to be.
Leaks say the flamingo Pokemon will be part Fighting type. If true, I hope it's fighting style incorporates Capoeira.

According to the Makio leaks (which are being proven to be valid with each official reveal), the mice are a couple that evolves into a mouse family, and the mushroom looking one is most likely the three stage salt Pokemon. According to the leak, the salt Pokemon has a blocky design (it's even described as its later stages looking like something from Minecraft), and the 'mushroom' in the image above has a blocky aesthetic.

On the subject of mushrooms, there is supposedly going to be a regional fake equivalent to Tentacool that is a mushroom.

It's probably the videogame series I am most knowledgeable about. Oftentimes the behind-the-scenes details on the franchise can be really fascinating, especially considering that the franchise itself was a short ways away from never coming out during the development of Red and Green(Almost lost all of their data once, six years of development hell, no one close to the team having confidence in them making a game for a 7-year old handheld system that was at it's lowest point popularity-wise, one third of the staff of Game Freak resigning, ect)

Funnily enough, it actually isn't my favorite game series. I can't really consider any of the games mind-blowingly good, but it's like a comfort food of sorts, something familiar and predictable in many ways, and has many addicting qualities to it that make it possible for me to even replay my least favorite titles in the mainline series without feeling like I'm torturing myself.
can you explain the current stagnation and why gen v is so good? did a lot of new blood come in during that one? where they just on a good vibe?

Gen V was my favorite. The entire gen was just new pokemon (that i liked but some people sperg over them), the battle system was sped up considerably, and the story was the closest thing to 'good' we ever got.

It's hard to say any had a good story, but the first 2 were basic and bare bones enough to not be bad, just simple, which is fine. I don't particularly care for "let's flood the earth because reasons" or whatever dumb agendas the villains always had afterward.

I rewatched some of the generations videos and It makes me sad that the writing went downhill since Gen 5. The story is not a master piece but at least it was coherent and they had an idea of what they wanted the villain team goals to be: team plasma and N were all about liberating pokemon from trainers but it was all a front for Ghetsis to take over the world.
X/Y: Lysandre wants to make a beautiful world or something and for that will use an ancient weapon and the box legend... ok?
Sword and Shield: there will be an energy crisis at some point in the far future from now, better summon this evil snek. oh and the villain team are just some fanboys, the evil guys are the corpos (just like in the last game)
Sun and Moon I found it to be coherent: Lusamine got too obsessed with the ultra beasts and went too far, team skull were just a bunch of misfits and rejects who wanted to cause trouble (and were used by Lusamine)

Here's a presumable list of all of the returning Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet, per the leakers, in visualized form, sorted by Generation. The bottom row of Pokémon can only be obtained by transferring them to S/V from HOME. The Heracross and Salazzle lines are not in this picture, but are presumably also returning as well.

Leakers have also said that the Hisuian evolutions, i.e. Ursaluna and Sneasler, can only be obtained by transferring them from HOME.

This a riddle that appears to be about the 3rd Legendary in S/V.

Honestly, I can with with those returning 'mons. Some of them are actually favorites of mine as well so it's not big deal to me. Here are a couple observations of mine:

Will the 'mons with regional variants have both variations available via HOME? I wouldn't mind sending one of my Hisuian Zoroarksa to Paldea when I can.

Looks like the Kalos starters are getting some love here. Good on them.

Of course Ditto will be returning for breeding purposes.

Story-wise, Sun felt the most cohesive to me even if it front-loaded everything with tutorial after tutorial.

Here's hoping you can, at the very least, acquire the original version of regional mons since one thing I hated about legends arceus was how inconsistent it was with that, for example johto sneasel was in the game via rifts but not regular zorua and you can't even transfer it via home.
I get it if they don't include ALL regional forms since it could get kinda messy... actually no it would be stupid if they do that since that's what home is for, let me have all three meowths in a single game.

Edit: turns out swsh has all three variations of meowth so I am more hopeful. Still won't take it for granted, after all it is gamefreak.

I've never really played Pokemon after second gen and never competitively, but I follow a YouTube channel talking about the competitive side out of curiosity, this week it uploaded a video about Baton Pass, and how it was banned.

So was it really that bad? The language used makes it sound like it's a lot of whiny players not wanting to accept a playstyle using a different set of 10 Mons instead of the canon 10 Mons, and necessatating having specific moves rather than the usual necessary moves.

Well, answer me this:
Is it likely that the Smogon-like players would come up with some scumfuckery strategy that is extremely unfun to play against and proceed to abuse the fuck out of it?
Or is it more likely that Smogon-like players would throw a massive bitch-fit and make a massive hubbub over nothing, banning a move forever?

The answer is both.

New trailer, showing the Electric Gym Leader, Iono. She's very clearly a vtuber.

1665583940566.png

Most of the "trailer" was her hinting at what her signature pokemon is. It is:

Squishy
Sluggish pace, easygoing
Two bumps on head
Electric-type
Body expands and contracts to make electricity
Very cute

If the leaked dex is anything to go by, it's likely to be the Frog, assumed Electric/Psychic type. The other Electric types believed to be involved are Pawmi, Miraidon, and a Seagull Pokemon, which doesn't seem as likely to be squishy or have it's body expand and contract.

Generally speaking "uncompetitive" in Pokemon singles means that something either has little to no counterplay or that it requires extremely specific counters that otherwise don't provide team value. The majority of Smogon bans and clauses fall into the first category but more than a few can be considered to be in the second which is why you'll see occasional suspect testing to unban mons and clauses. The problem with BP chains is that you need to bring incredibly specific counterplay to them and if you don't you'll be incredibly likely to lose in the first few turns and if you DO a bring it you run the risk of running against a rogue strat that will be more likely to beat a team geared towards countering BP.
