I am six levels higher than the wild pokemon that I encountered. The thing is down to 1 or 2 health. It is asleep.

Why the fuck did it take 12 pokeballs, 5 great balls, a friendly ball and a net ball before I finally caught the damn thing with a heal ball? Fuck eighth gen. What the fuck did they do to catch rates??

That's nothing. It took me 40+ pokeballs to catch a freaking level 3 Starly at 1 hp from false swipe!

Catch rates are still as based as always I see.

There was a reason I just started to spam Quick Balls at everything - the catch rates felt far more shit than usual at times in Shield, even with being over levelled. And at least if all else failed, the Timer Ball was a thing.

They're still stupid fucking gimmick balls, but at least they have an actual use - can anyone here say they used, random example, a Love Ball for any reason other than it being your literal last Pokeball? Nevermind the most useless of all the Gimmick Balls, the Moon Ball...

Yeah I am glad I caught the pokemon, but not thrilled that it is in a heal ball. Wish I could change pokeballs.

Disagree on the Quick and timer balls being stupid gimmicks.

The Quick and Timer balls have the most straight-forward gimmick use out of most of the other balls: One for quickly catching something you're interested in without the pesky wearing down business and the other for when you've drawn out a battle with a mon you want to catch (likely a legendary pokemon).

When you've found a mon that evolves through friendship and you want to hasten its evolution process. It's still pretty niche, yeah, but, since there are quite of few mons in the game at this point with that evolution method, Love Balls are used for its actual ability every once in a while.

Speaking of useless gimmick balls, I don't care if Moon Balls are statistically the most useless ones in the entire series.

They're still my favorite because they have the coolest design.

I found a shiny Delibird in Pokémon Moon.
That Quick Ball worked.

Other than that, I do try to use the specialty Pokéballs when I can.

Best part about the moon ball is that, in Gold and Silver when they debuted, they were programmed to catch Pokémon that evolve using burn heals instead.

Has anyone really and truly caught Moon Stone evolvers with the Moon Ball without fuss in Gen II? Gonna assume you're a unicorn if so.

Moon Ball was coded improperly in Gen II. It had a higher catch rate against Pokemon that evolve with Burn Heal, aka nothing. The reason why this happened is because the index number for Burn Heal was the same as what Moon Stone was in the Gen I games,

2 of the other Apricorn Balls were also coded wrongly:
-Fast Ball was supposed to have a higher catch rate on all Pokemon that fled from battle(remember that a lot of species had a percent chance to flee from battle in Gen II). However, due to a coding error, it only effected the first three fleeing Pokemon on the list: Magnemite, Grimer, and Tangela. All others, including the legendary beasts, treat it as a normal Poke Ball. When it came back in Gen IV they changed the mechanics of the Fast Ball completely(Higher catch rate against pokemon with base 100 or more speed) because the only fleeing Pokemon in Gen IV were roaming legendary Pokemon.
-Love Ball ALMOST got its mechanics right. If your current Pokemon is the same species but opposite gender as the wild Pokemon, Love Ball was supposed to have an increased catch rate. It ended up being the Gay Ball instead because it only worked on same gender Pokemon instead.

So someone forced a bot to look at every single Pokemon and create its own, here are some of the results:

Some of these designs are kind of neat.

This one is fucking garbage, and I love it.
