Just look at Delcatty. BOTH Smogon and Serebii shit all over the poor thing calling it one of the worst Pokemon ever. I don't believe it deserves that label, as it has gotten little bumps here and there to make it useable.
  • It gained Wonder Skin as a hidden ability in Gen 5, which is better than Normalize and Cute Charm. You can either combine it with a accuracy-lowering held item (Bright Powder/Lax Incense) or use a boosting move to take advantage of the opponent's Toxic/WillOWisp/ThunderWave not working, or both
  • It gained Cosmic Power as an egg move in Gen 6, which combined with a HP recovery held item (Leftover/Berries) can keep it's longevity.
  • Adding to the two points above, if it DOES get statused, It's a normal type that knows Facade, so you can fuck shit up and not worry about going down in one-two hits thanks to Cosmic Power (or even the attack loss from burn)
  • In Gen 7, it gained 20 points in the speed stat, and can learn Stomping Tantrum, so Rock/Steel is not a huge issue anymore (it's only other options were Wake-Up Slap and Rock Smash). So that leaves you with one other move slot for either Ghosts (Sucker Punch), or Fighting types (Zen Headbutt/Play Rough)
Instead you see things like Normalize Thunder Wave because Electrics and Grounds can't immune anymore (which was fine in past gens when 1. Ghosts weren't as common as they are now and 2. you didn't have too many options back then), or special focused Calm Mind movesets... even though the special attack stat is the WORST stat on this thing.

Honestly, I had a lot of fun with Normalize Delcatty when I was younger. Even with the issue of Rock, Ghost and Steel types. I'd give it stronger moves (plus Assist) and STAB damage go brrrrr.

The best useless ball in the series is Beast Ball. Or rather, it had a use in Alola, then they ruined it by making all the UBs guaranteed captures in SwSh and making the Beast Ball cost 150 Dynite Ore.
Coolest ball animation in recent generations though. Only sucks that the catch rate is ass on anything not an Ultra Beast.

Makes me wonder if you could increase the catch rate by coding every Pokémon in, say, Gen 7 as a UB.

The gimmick balls in recent gens, and SwSh more specifically, are more than anything for aesthetic purposes. With raids and dynamax adventures having guaranteed captures they were included so you could do things like guarantee you can get Cresselia in a Moon Ball for example.

I rather like that all the gimmick balls are available despite being essentially useless for actually capturing anything. I like to have things like my Tsareena in a Friend Ball, or my Falinks in a Level Ball since it matches their color scheme.

It's Fashion Souls but for Pokemon.

Moves like Hidden Power and Natural Gift are unaffected by Normalize starting in Gen V. While Natural Gift(and Assist) are gone even in BDSP, not only is Hidden Power back along with Delcatty, but when Home Updates you can have a Delcatty(and a bunch of other Pokemon) with Hidden Power transferred to the game from older gens. I myself would pick Hidden Power Ghost in such a situation mostly because it hits Ghost Super-effectively and Rock and Steel types neutrally. Assist is gone too, however,

But as I said in an earlier post, Delcatty is pretty awful no matter what you do with it. At least BDSP gave it Nasty Plot I guess.

None at all, really. It's an enhancement rom hack, famously known for the increase in difficulty it provides. Drayano, the creator, is most known for these types of hacks.
None that I know of. It's just balls-to-the-wall hard compared to real games. Every trainer, especially later in the game, is like fighting an actual competitive Smogon player, so keep that in mind if you decide to play it.
Thank you guys for the recommendation. Honestly not really looking for a difficult hack, really either a 'remake' or something more interesting. I'd rather play a randomizer over some hard mode hack.

Now I know I'm late to this party, but while I don't like Legends will be any good, the Hisui designs are a vast improvement compared to Galar's designs. It doesn't look like James Turner is the design director this time around, so I think it's safe to say he was the main cause behind the Galarian designs looking so fugly. Only designs I'm not a huge fan of are Braviary (just cause it feels like extra stuff tacked on) and Kleavor (ig its cause a new Scyther evo feels weird), but even those are vastly preferable to most of Turner's designs.

I'm a little sad they've started patching out some of the bugs in BDSP, seeing that the game was a flaming garbage heap that was almost on par with Gen 1 on terms of being glitchy was the only thing that had me kind of interested in it.

Might skip the whole Nu-Sinnoh part of Gen 8 entirely, since Legends looks kinda ugly. The only new Pokemon designs I like are Zoroark and Voltorb, and the human designs are a hot mess entirely.

A buddy of mine was playing Radical Red. He didn't seem like he was enjoying himself. Turning everything into Dark Souls just makes everything mediocre like Dark Souls.

At least try to make the game good like Demon's Souls.

You can always delete/prevent the patches from being installed, but be sure to mute the game if you don’t like shitty MIDIs.

so with the game 3 weeks out rom dump season has to be in a week or two, hope to god we won't get midi's in legends

Only thing that would make me play a pokemon game again is if someone made a rom hack of previous games put into Black & White's engine.

People can say what they want about Unova (I loved it) but damn did the battles move fast. I gave up on the series after XY because of how slow battles moved again.
You are going to have to wait more. GBA hacking is mature down to code compilations while DS hacking i still in development.

I mean DP's source code was leaked so gen 4 has gotten abit ahead and with stuff like following pokemon and I think light platinum is getting gen 5 style camera movement in there, and then you have crazy shit like this

If Legends has nothing else going for it, it’s that GF at least seems to give a shit and actually put some form of effort in when it comes to the spin off games. It’s something actually new for the series - here’s hoping it doesn’t go the way of Pokémon Conquest

Though all I want is remasters of the Gamecube titles (Coliseum and XD), is that too much to ask?

I surely will. You know, usually when a Pokemon game is bad, I can at least say that the soundtrack is good. I loathe Gen 7 for example, but still find myself listening to many of the tracks from it. I'm disappointed I can't say even that about BDSP, because it's really that shitty. Most of the tracks just sound like baby's first orchestral remix and don't fit the game at all.

I'm glad they at least included an option to switch to the original Gen 4 OST similar to what they did in HGSS, but then again, if I wanted to hear that I could just go play the original instead.

It's just like Fire Emblem ROM hacks. The games are designed for veterans, even at the start. "Look, I've played most of the titles already, but did you really need 30+, high movement enemies in Chapter 2?"

And that's juxtaposed to: "Look, I know how to play Pokémon and I want something harder to play. But did you really have to give the first gym leader 6 Pokémon with competitive sets, synergy and a theme?"

Decided to replay Pearl for DS as I never finished it. Now that I know more about the game and have gotten over my aversion to using TMs I'm having fun. The ice trainer was where I quit last time and my infernape swept her at level 39 which was cool.

On a side note, I had no idea how useless Bulbapedia was. You'll have 15 paragraphs on whether a given Pokemon takes shits on Sundays but the move list is way down the page.

Pokemondb is more useful for moveset stuff.
