When you defeat the Regis (least in Gen III), they fly away. Um...

...how can this literal iceberg levitate?

Probably another one of the side-quests Game Freak dropped, though I think ever since Gen IV, they've been having ghost girls in the game.

What's with the gen 1 pokedexes always referencing indian elephants and pokemon always killing them?

Does Gamefreak have something against indian elephants? And speaking of, the beta of gen 1 actually had an unused indian elephant pokemon which could serve as the set-up for a good joke right now but I'm too braindead to think of one at the moment.

On a side note, Donphan being so tiny bugs me. Imagine that thing as an actual giant monster truck wheel instead of that puny little go-kart wheel.

Historic fake news talked about Thomas Edison killing an elephant to demonstrate the dangers of AC power. Edison didn't actually do that. This grisly and depressing article pretty much covers the whole tale: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topsy_(elephant)

Pokemon's overall flippant views on the subject of death serve to drive home the concept that the Pokedex probably is written by the kid on his adventure

What if Japan just really hates Indian elephants and wants to kick their asses even in the digital realm?

The elephant thing is probably pretty simple:

1) elephants are big
2) but pokemon are powerful enough to do stuff to them

Wait, but isn't there video of the elephant being killed?
how does fire work underwater

(diving in hoenn -- rain does mess with it though)
It works like a pistol shrimp... make a big explosion of fire underwater and it immediately implodes, leaving a vacuum for the water to fill and therefore creating a large damaging shockwave.
Or it's just bideo game logic.

What I want to know is, what the fuck do the pokemon stand on when surfing? If I'm sitting on a Ducklett swimming across the ocean and Swimmer fucking Billy just HAS to battle RIGHT NOW so I send out my Steelix, where does it stand? Does it just sink to the bottom of the ocean?

In the gen VII games it at least shows that you and the mons are standing on an outcrop of rocks so you're standing in very shallow water. But that still doesn't make sense when, given random encounters, everywhere you run into a water-based battle that same outcropping is always there, so it's like all of Alola's waters have the depth of a puddle or something despite the overworld clearly showing otherwise.

The wild pokemon are polite enough to allow you to both swim together to a shoreline before starting the battle

Why are the professors named after trees? And why can't they hire adult assistants to do field work instead of relying on kids?

I recall a trainer say if your eyes lock you have to fight. So why when I'm walking by and some shitheel catches sight of the side of my head must I battle?
