Was it really necessary for some dude to block the entrance to Cerulean Cave until the player becomes Champion? He never even asks you for your name, so how would he know to leave every time the Champion comes around Cerulean City? Do the local residents just know to stay away from Cerulean Cave, or do they have a full-time guard for it to chase away non-Champions? How does Leaf get through in Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee if she's not Champion?

Fun Fact: Pokemon does not allow the trading of Pokemon that are named slurs, curse words, and things of that nature. It has since been completely banned within the game (if you try to name your Pokemon "ass" or whatever it won't let you), but I'm not sure when.

Anyway, Generation 5 introduced a new Pokemon called Cofagrigus, a cool Pokemon based on a sarcophagus. You may notice the name has "fag" in it.

That's right; Cofagrigus couldn't be traded because the game detected "fag" in the name.

I love shit like this http://bash.org/?178890

ok so according to gen 4 canalave library people used to marry pokemon and presumably banged.
Were manmade pokemon like porygon, electrode, castform, and golurk acceptable? Wouldn't it kind of be weird banging the pokemon you made? Playing god in a bad way?

I mean you could say that the manmade pokemon weren't made then, but Golurk was made by an ancient civilization, so I dunnno.

Considering some of the shit Shad draws, it's plausible.

Making your own catgirl waifu is the entire reason the biotech industry even exists.

This was presumably during a time comparable to the bronze age today ... though golurk was an ancient pokemon the rest I'm fairly certain are at least implied to have been created very recently.
The canalave stuff really read like an old creation myth--imagine reading The Epic of Gilgamesh as a factual interpretation of world history from 1900 to the present. It doesn't really follow.

Also re: Cofagrigus
You also couldn't trade Froslass for a while because she has "ass" in her name.

I like how you could name Gary all sorts of crap back in Gen 1.

"What was my grandson's name again? Oh right, it was Asshole!"

Man-made Pokémon like Porygon and Electrode were long after that time, so who knows; even then, they're genderless, so perhaps not. Even with those ancient types like the Regis and Golurk, perhaps anyone who tried never lived to tell the tale.

Speaking of Golett and artificial pokemon, it always sort of bugged me how they never mention if Magnemite is artificial or not. And unlike other artificial-looking pokemon, Magnemite is shown on ancient murals that date back to the times of prehistoric pokemon. Are you actually fucking telling me that Magnemite has been around since the dawn of life? Were magnets and bolts based on it or was it just a weird coincidence?

The ancients technically had a magnet in the form of the magnetic compass.

But it's another oversight of letting someone else draw the trading cards.

I just have to say I freaking love official art of ancient murals, they're like so few and far in between that any time they show up, I just have to squee in joy. It's such good lore that I feel goes underappreciated, and that's partially one reason why I really want a game taking place in a South America-inspired region, because they could go crazy with that. It'd also probably bring full-circle Mew's origins since that's where Mew originally came from, and I'm super pissed they dropped mentions of Guyana and the Amazon lately.

What happened to Pikachu’s white belly and black tail?

Maybe it was a mutation.
