So, partners are not only temporary, but they automatically attack in combat without input.

One of the commentators also said that he started to skip battles later on in the game, just like SS/CS...
I swear to god, I didn't even mean to be the bearer of bad news, these are just the previews confirming our worst fears.
Gonna be honest, I'm not shocked to see it come to this. Especially when the partners they're showing off in the trailer are generic looking mario enemies (Granted a step up from Toads).
If it's a repeat of Color Splash this will be the downlow:
- Game has functional RPG combat, however everything you do will be way more time consuming then pressing the A button akin to TTYD.
- There's a charm to the combat, BUT it will outstay it's welcome in general causing battles to be skipped often.
- Boss battles will most likely be very hard without one key item(thing) found in the overworld map before the boss.
- Padding on the overworld by doing random things to fix up the map (Like the paint hammer stuff in Color Splash)
- Game will look great, using the paper aesthetic to it's benefit, but will have similar ideas done before or more generic themes (standard desert, jungle, etc)
- Music will be fantastic, and will be the first good thing people mention when talking about the game (Sticker Star has this in the bag)
- Story will be by the numbers, but the character writing will be good despite the severe lack of party members to make up for Mario's communication skills.
- At the end of the day a generic 5/10, not the Paper Mario people wanted, better then Color Splash and Sticker Star though.
- Will hopefully be the final wake-up call to IS to actually make a real RPG style Paper Mario.
It's like the Sonic cycle at this point.
