The state of Oregon has joined 48 other states in the union to allow “self-service” gas stations, meaning you can now pump your own gas as opposed to a “full-service” station where an employee does it for you.
New Jersey is now the only state to not allow self-service at all.

You wearing a skirt in winter in Oregon is on you, don’t blame the gas.

Idk how these folks don't know how to pump their own gas as adults, because I started doing it for my stepdad when I was like 6

You’d think these gas stations would put up a sign that says
1.) Do not smoke while pumping gas.
2.) Do not pump until the hose is completely inside the fuel input of the car (?)
3.) Turn off your vehicle while pumping gas.
4.) If the pump handle suddenly jerks , that’s ok. It means your tank is full. Don’t rush into the store and say you broke it.

I have to say as someone who didn't have the highest opinion of the west coast this has kind of blown my mind. I think i'm like most people in that i was aware that NJ had some kind of law restricting self service but had never given any thought to it, probably because NJ is such a tiny and weird place, i wasn't aware that OR had something similar.

Having worked at a gas station when i was younger, it was a daily occurrence to see kids being sent to pay for gas and then go pump themselves without the adult ever leaving the car. I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say that if most people where i'm from encountered an able bodied person who felt they were unable to pump their own gas they would assume they were legitimately exceptional.

It is still against the law to pump your own gas in all of the major parts of the State
Under House Bill 2482, which took effect Monday, retailers in counties with a population of less than 40,000 are allowed to have self-service gas pumps. Drivers in 15 counties can now pump their own gas any time of day, while those in three other rural counties can do so after business hours, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

My mom dislikes pumping gas herself. So... she goes to the place that does it for you as opposed to the places that don't. I'm sure there will still be gas stations that offer full service because they know people want it, and since it's still illegal in most of the state, you could always drive to another county*.

*The county I live in is less than half the size of Portland, so I'll admit I don't know how feasible this is in Oregon. But still.

So this creates a market opportunity. In these one gas station towns, where there is one dude who has to man the convenience store attached to it and (previously) also had to pump all the gas, you have self service and full service, and where the dude actually comes out and pumps your gas and maybe swabs at your windshield half-heartedly with a shitty squeegee, they get charged an extra dollar a gallon.

Most people will choose to pump their own gas, leaving that dude more time to smoke weed in the bathroom.

What in the hell is that person in fourth photo is doing? Pumping gaz is not that hard Oregon.

Are these the same kind of people who walk into department stores or supermarkets and go out of their way to avoid using the self-checkout registers? I kind of think so...

Most likely, they're the type of asshat who tries to use the self-checkout, fails, then pulls an employee from a regular till to help with the self-checkout.
