The state of Oregon has joined 48 other states in the union to allow “self-service” gas stations, meaning you can now pump your own gas as opposed to a “full-service” station where an employee does it for you.
New Jersey is now the only state to not allow self-service at all.

Eh, I don't know dude.
In OR at least there's a huge homeless population and drug abuse and meth heads/tweaks/crackheads, etc, shootings and "gang" shit happens a lot.
OH and we have Donald "let's blow up the earth! climate change is FAKE NEWSSSS" Trump.

I'd rather live in the EU.
Trade?

You would trade freedom to live in the EU?

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. Benji Franklin....maybe..

Call me dumb, but I didn't even know that there were stations where employees pumped it. All of these people complaining are probably just incompetent. If you've never done it before, you should've at least observed what the employees were doing. It doesn't require a professional.

You didn't fucking know it existed because only two fucking states do it, you're not dumb, you live in a state that believes you intelligent enough to stick a nozzle in your gas tank and pull the handle.

I was doing this shit when i was 10. FUCKING TENNNNNNNN. Cars these days have little arrows showing you which side the fuel tank is on. Most cars have the gas cap attached to the tank by way of a bit of plastic so you can't lose it. If you can't figure out how to insert nozzle and push handle, just make it easier on all of us and kill yourself.

I'm actually pretty bummed about this because, I live in OR and have a small child and now I am just going to have to make sure my fiancee is able to pump the gas before we trade the car off, because there's no way I'm stepping out of the car and leaving a 4month old in there. Not even for a second.

Also, It bums me out that a bunch of gas workers are going to get laid off because of this.
Lol, you wait until it all goes the same way Australia has - here every pump is self service, most Australians think gas station attendants are an anachronistic Americanism that couldn't possibly exist any longer. The real issue for Australians isn't the fear of leaving their kid in the car for 30 seconds while you go in and throw a twenty at the clerk, it's that in several states it's fucking illegal to leave your kid in the car for 30 seconds while you fill up. That's way more annoying than your helicopter parent bullshit.

Um, what? Did they de-invent locks in Oregon? Literally every other country and every other US state manages this shit on the daily without getting their kids abducted or shot. Over here we don't even have stickers explaining what to do, it's just common knowledge. If you have enough awareness to let someone stick their dick in you and then have a kid, you'd think you'd have enough sense to stick a nozzle in a hole and lock the fucking doors.

Dude, what the fuck? I have kids, and even in AZ where it hits 105 sometimes I can jump out of my car, gas it up and keep an eye on my kid in their fucking car seat, since the thing is literally 2 feet from the fuel inlet. Just crack the window an inch so they can talk to you if you're this scared of leaving them alone for 8 seconds to put a card in the pump and key in your zip.

This is some seriously ninny parenting shit or an amazing troll

Is Oregon just California 2?

It's California-Worse ever since NorCal got too expensive for the hippies to live in and they all immigrated the shortest distance they could because, as we all know, hippies are lazy pieces of shit always doing as little as possible to keep their miserable existence as an ongoing pain for the rest of us

I can only assume that Oregon hires only the smartest individuals in their state to pump gas with the way people are crying about it. How do you not know how to pump gas? What do they do if they travel out of state?

Gonna sperg now.

The person who made the comment about how Americans in those states can't pump gas but can carry guns connected something for me. People who are afraid of guns tend to be people with no experience with them, whose knowledge about gun safety begins and ends with "You'll shoot your eyes out!" Same with gas pumps, it would appear; they saw a few videos about gas pumps catching fire or a movie where someone got shot by a Terminator at a gas station (or something), and that's clearly what's going to happen because they don't know anything else.

But this gives some insight as to why their side of the political spectrum just assumes that aversion arises from ignorance. Because that's how they are. They have aversions to the simplest of stupid things that most of us just shrug and deal with--mowing your lawn, pumping gas, cutting up meat to cook--and the reason they haven't gotten over it is because they've had no exposure.

So when they see someone who, say, doesn't agree that guy-on-guy is perfectly normalnaturalhealthy, they assume it's because we don't know any gay people. If you didnt' hire the black person for the job, it's because you're afraid of black people, whom you have never really met. Anti-refugee? Because you don't know how wonderful they are. Their own childish terror in the face of adult responsibilities literally makes them unable to understand that people actually have reasons other than fear for not embracing things.

The "no self-serve" laws aren't even due to safety concerns, it's just the result some pencil-pushing politicians who don't know a day in their lives where someone didn't spit-shine their shoes for them thinking "hmm, I need to make more jobs to make me look good. what's the stupidest, most miserable thing I can turn into a minimum-wage job?"
And honestly that job is so shitty it should be illegal, especially in winter where you're standing outside for 8 hours freezing your ass off.

Side note: I like all the people in OR who are spazzing because they think the disabled will be thrown to the wolves. Self-serve stations will usually send someone out to assist you if you ask.

How many of them have ever been anywhere but Oregon, I wonder?

What in the fuck? Oh and lol at the "I might have to interact with niggers" shit going on.

For the people who think it will kill you, unless you are stupid enough to light a cigarette or just stand there huffing the fumes till you die of it, lol, what idiots.
Even that's not a big deal. I both pump gas while smoking and huff the fumes all the time and I'm perfectly fine.

:story:

Good lord these people are crybabies! I've never seen a full-service station in my life! I've been pumping my own petrol for around 8 years now, it's bloody easy.

Hell, Tesco has made it so easy with the addition of buttons that let you set how much petrol you want a fucking Hartley could do it!

Gas station convenience stores are crappy in Oregon too. If you want to stop and get a coffee or something while you get gas, it's a barren wasteland in there and you quickly walk back out. You gotta find a 7/11 or something. That lack of food and merchandise sales along with the extra overhead of having HAZMAT-certified attendants means that fuel is 10-15 cents more per gallon in Oregon than neighboring states (if you remove the difference in tax).

The attendants freak the fuck out when you forget you are in retardland, or are impatient, and hop out of your car and start pumping (the pumps there work exactly the same if you push "credit"). The early 20's loser is the supposed expert here and it is too hazardous for a grown adult to do it. Motherfucker, I have been doing this longer than you have been alive.

Another weird twist on the Oregon law is that they have to learn how to pump diesel as part of their CDL testing. Commercial vehicle fuel is self-serve in Oregon. So all the truckstops have rows of rigs with out-of-state truckers pumping thousands of gallons of diesel with 60 gpm "speed fueler" nozzles right next to gas pumps with a certified attendant there to drip in $20 of premium unleaded.

Do they put something the water in Oregon? Like pure unadulterated faggotry? People bitching about having to pump their own gas is the dumbest shit I've ever heard.

I would have been so confused if I ever had to drive through Oregon. My reaction would be to refuse to believe such a thing exists, then drive over to the next station.

Most learn how to it and don't complain. My home country also has attendants that pump gas at the stations, but it's because sometimes they use LPG instead of gasoline. I assume that it also is so that people don't steal gas (3rd world country I know).

I can barely remember seeing a few full-service stations in the early 80's, but it was once in a full moon that we saw one on a road trip.
