Luffy wont, cause that isnt the question he cares about, he cares "okay shits fucked, what are you gonna do? You gonna fix it or fucking sit there crying like a bitch"
Not those exact words, but that’s his line to every conflict he comes across. Fair enough.

My thing has always been how long Luffy can carry that level of being carefree, especially if endgame stuff is on the agenda. Most he’s acknowledged of future things to deal with is facing his idol Shanks in order to become pirate king.

I will say it’s pretty cool how Oda has it where Luffy is the chosen one, without being the chosen one, in the sense that Luffy is responsible for bigger things in the meta without being aware of them (Gear 5 is the powers of the Sun God Nika and reincarnation of Joy Boy, and his real dream is the same one Roger had). But at some point, Luffy has to at least be told that there are bigger things at play and he plays an active roles in those things. Right.

Sure, Luffy may blow that off and remain focusing on simple things, but he has to at least be told of the bigger things at stake, even if it’s just “there’s a shadow leader of the WG named Imu, and if you fail to defeat Imu, your dream can never be achieved. So let’s go and get some people to help you fight Imu and anyone else who’d stand in your way to face Imu.” (Yes I know that sounds like redoing Impel Down, but that mural makes it pretty clear the finale will be like Marineford but with higher stakes, and I’ve always thought the final war would be in the context of something like what set off Marineford).

I just think that at some point, Luffy might have to carry himself with realization of gravitas, like how Marineford was just him running around to save Ace and Whitebeard and Impel Down inmates were the ones that made it a war, and in the final war, it’s going to be Luffy leading a mighty force into battle (even if he’s not the one actually giving orders because he’s not really a strategist).

Hell, I think even Goku would reach a point (or several) where he was fighting for something bigger than pride, or knew that there were dire consequences if he failed, or he had to approach an antagonist with an approach beyond “I’m gonna beat him up!” and relying on raw power and brute strength to win the day.

Luffy is similar to Goku, I don’t think he’s going to drastically change. That’s not who his character is. Ace dying was akin to Krillians death on Namek. It did mean something, but Luffy’s overall character is a duck.

He doesn’t have to change. I just want things to be where somebody sits him down and tells him “there’s bigger things going on, and those things involve you and what you do.”

He may wave off those things because he’s a simple man with simple desires, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to tell Luffy “there’s bigger things going on here” when the time is right. If only to get the reaction that the one Imu and the Gorosei have to deal with because of disrupting their plans to hold on to power turns out to be a complete idiot treating things like some kind of game.

yea all that backstory is just for the audience in reality all Luffy wanna know is why they're crying and where the person who made them cry is.
Kind of surprising that simple thing has made this go on for decades. I guess if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Pretty dope to see Loki take the Gambit approach to this.

Also, pretty interesting to see God’s Knights take the Pied Piper route.

I have to assume that we’re going to get some moment where Luffy goes gear 5 and saves Elbaf (along with a lore dump), but I have to wonder where the sword and shield will come in. And I’m still banking on “destroying the world” meaning “the structure set up by Imu and the Celestial Dragons will be completely decimated. By Luffy, who doesn’t know the bigger things he’s doing.

Bitch are you not paying attention to what's being conjured right now?

Goddamn, a Digimon reference.
??? Post reference???

One Piece Chapter 1142 Page 6Zudomon | DigimonWiki | Fandom
That's a maybe, honestly. Oda may-or-may-not know about Digimon, but I'm not sure if he's aware of everything. Hopefully someone asks about it, I'll actually be happy if it turns out to be a shout-out, which would then suggest we now know what Oda's favorite Digimon is.

It is a first season Digimon. Oda made a character that resembles a Thunder Hammer wielding walrus. That guy is themed exactly like Zudomon. It is Oda we are talking about. He made Pokemon references. Digimon is hardly out of the realm of possibilities.

Its also possible that Zudomon is a reference to the same Norse figure that Oda is referencing.
Who? Thor? Maybe but the tusks bring in mind Zudomon. I have not seen literature that associates Thor with walruses but I am willing to be proven wrong if one can provide proof.

Digimon off topic
There is a slight resemblance to Zoudomon in that the character does have tusks and a hammer.
Said Digimon turns into an even more apt digimon, Vikemon, who even has a move that references Mjolnir making it very Elbaf apt

Tusks on characters are not new. Lots of them have had them and lots will in the future.
The hammer design is not new, one of the new Fishman pirates had a very similar one.
Zudomon is a distinctive enough look that Oda could have stolen more than just the hammer and tusks if he wanted to make it a reference

On topic for the chapter I'm wondering if the children are going to be tied to the nightmares where injuring them affects those things. Seems very on brand for the World Government agents

Oda has used blatant animal motifs all they back to Captain Nezumi. It really is less likely that he’s referencing second-tier children’s media from when he was already an adult (and in the midst of working 1460 days straight) than it is a coincidental alignment of character traits. Besides, that hammer is not Mjolnir: the hammer Loki was using was Mjolnir.

I was talking about the SPECIFIC animal motif.

Again, he referenced Pokemon as well. Also, he is familiar with stuff his daughters watched when they were little.

Did not say that the hammer the walrus guy was using was Mjolnir. I said that the design resembled Zudomon down to the weapon.

honestly, I’d vote against that if only because I can’t see a way Oda would do that ( also, didn’t Punk Hazard also have a big thing where children were at the center of a scheme by the main villains aligned with the WG?)

The bigger thing to question IMO would be if the Straw Hats learn about the God’s Knights and its members.
