Hard to say. I think this whole cover story is just another episode of doing the Oden LARP.

And his take is to go by hunch and the idea that if anything bad happens, just beat Luffy down. I can only think of Goku, but without some justification because of Saiyan heritage.
Honestly, revealing that Loki is as large as Oars essentially confirms that the modern giants we see today either originated from or were part of the Ancient Giant tribe, or at least some of them are married into the Ancient Giants and have hybrid children. Consider this: the original biblical texts describe angels having relations with humans, giving birth to giants. In Oda's world, it's possible that the modern giants we see in One Piece may not have existed originally and were simply normal-sized humans. Perhaps the Ancient Giants had a fascination with certain humans and used something akin to a 'love Haki' to create hybrids. This could explain why some giant children, and even a former dead giant king, have horns before they were removed as scars. The Ancient Giant gene never disappeared; it's merely dormant within them. This potentially explains why they waged war against the World Government until recent years. It also might make sense why some giants are kidnapped, either for slavery or to use their children to create the next generation of Marines. It's a truly messed-up system.

There’s still the part where he was chained to a tree for a reason. Heavily. And everyone made a big deal of keeping Loki there.

Loki being called the greatest satan is too blatant. That for once the person being shat on and considered a plague to the people is an incredibly dangerous giant instead of a kawai UwU girl like Rebecca doesn't change the usual pattern that we see with Oda.

Lets not forget he was supposedly loved during his infatuation with Lola yet 6 years later he goes absolutely apeshit for no apparent reason? This just makes me think of king Riku.

yeah i am pretty suspicious of loki being the true bad guy here. especially with king riku being a thing. i also really dont think shanks would have just left loki there if he was as big of a threat as everyone says. i guess time will tell though if luffy fucked up or not.

Is it bad and/or petty of me to hope that Loki is as bad news as advertised just so Luffy has egg on his face because being nice to somebody who gave him food or offered something he wanted (in this case, reveal where Shanks is, or what Loki knows about Shanks) ends up biting him in the ass.

I don’t want Luffy to end up a cynical asshole (isn’t that why we have Nami? And besides, anything regarding an edgy Luffy is covered by Gear 4), but I have to wonder if it’s too much to ask Luffy to stop being the most dense fucker on the planet, and exercise come critical thinking skills for once.

I honestly don’t know if he’s ever learned the lesson of “when people tell you who they are, believe them.”

Ain't happening, Luffy is a retard, but he's fantastic at getting vibes. The fact that his instincts went into overdrive with Teach should speak volumes because he had 0 reason to instantly be weary of him, hell, he seemed to be saying stuff that would vibe with Luffy. If Loki didn't set it off it's because he's not that bad of a guy. He may be a liar and a probably a cunt, but isn't an irredeemable monster and was very likely fucked over. You aren't getting an "oh woes me, my trusting nature caused so much destruction! *play Linkin Park*"

A friend brought up a good question about the cover story. How come Who's-Who is torturing Ulti and Page One? I don't remember them doing anything treacherous or that they specifically caused the Flying Six to lose the battle.

I'd suspect he's gone freelance after his boss lost. While he's got people of his own he's probably trying to recruit others and those that say "no" get that sort of treatment.

Alternatively she did end up ticking off Big Mom. But that seems less likely as a motivator.

i could see the giants being furious at luffy because of this to the point that it will look like luffy really did fuck up this time only for robin or whoever to show up and be like "oh hey i found this thing that shows loki is actually a good guy and was framed for murder by imu or whoever because loki has the warrior spirit of the old giants which makes him a threat to the world government"

It be how pirates be, Kaido was a Rocks pirate..as soon as Rocks was gone that group splintered into their own crews, Animal Kingdom Did the same thing. I presume that Yamato is gonna free Ulti and PO and they will start following her around like Oden ended up getting a crew of people he didn't want around. At some point this cover story has to end with Yamato going out to sea...so she can show up on water 7 with every one else when Luffy ends up needing his own Army to equal the other 3 powers.

As cool as that is, wasn’t it said Yamato needed to stay in Wano because of super Haki or whatever? I really think that it’s being set up to where Yamato goes to sea at the helm of Pluton, as Luffy travels to his date with destiny, but will in reality be just going to save Vivi or something.

Volume 111 SBS out:
Highlights:
-Kid got the Big Mom poneglyph by attacking (then) Sweet General Snack and arranging a hostage negotiation. I wonder if this was before or after Urouge also kicked his ass.
-The connection between Hanafuda and Kaido is not only confirmed (the card game naming, "King of Lizards", the Zoan fruit collection hobby), he's also revealed to be the trusted friend that left Page One & Ulti (the dead father of theirs) in Kaido's care.
-Arlong is aware Jimbei is a mugiwara
1740863361223.png
-Oda shapes his speech bubbles the way he does with respect to overseas translations of the story (you don't find many vertical bubbles, standard for wapanese-speak, outside of the early chapters)
-Awakened Zoan fruit users are NOT out of the woods even if they hold on to themselves. Oda highlighted Rob Lucci as at risk for being turned completely like the Impel Down guards were.
-
1740863778507.png
-Tequila Wolf was NOT the giant bridge Oden saw in the Wano flashback.
-One Piece world is called "Blue Planet" or "Blue Star" (a la the Eneru cover story)
-Artificial Devil Fruits do not respawn
-Jimbei only brushes his giant ass fangs, and instead of cleaning the rest, he pops them out and regrows them (like Arlong did in his fight with Luffy) once a week.

Don't need to worry about Admirals invading Wano if all the Marines are being mobilized to cut someone off from Roadstar Island/Laugh Tale.
You’re not wrong. I just think that all the bullshit with Wano and this cover story is 1. Oden LARP and 2. Oda setting things up to where when we see Wano again, Pluton will be revealed in all its glory, with Yamato and all the big Wano fighters ready to aid Luffy in whatever he does, even if it’s a few steps removed from Captain America leading the charge to fight Thanos.

I am sure that killing their ally, his father, and getting in the way of the giant trafficking was reason enough to cause the WG to hate Loki.

Oda's the eternal manchild lol.

This is actually really neat of him to do. I think I've noticed this in my read-through.

Also you forgot the best question:

This is so retarded, I love it.

And that's why people love him.
He was born early to create a masterpiece but was too late to show Toriyama the final part of the story before Akira passed away last year. Gaban was essentially modeled after Master Roshi—his hat, Hawaiian shirt, and, unlike Roshi, his blonde hair as he aged. Unlike Roshi, who is bald, Gaban kept his hair. He is married to a giant and has a 20-year-old giant child. Oda is considered a legend in his country.

Oda is considered a legend in his country.
I thought that was already well established.

And the last few years (2017 at the earliest, when the live action series was first announced to be a thing, or maybe 2022 when Gear 5 debuted) have been dedicated to having the rest of the world learn about how great One Piece, and by extension Eiichiro Oda, really is.
