I kind of feel like that is what it is gearing to as everything surrounding him and Nika is more with the other characters and the audience rather than the character himself. I would assume that Oda also sees it as betraying his character if Luffy suddenly cares about being the reincarnation of not only the world's first pirate but Nika but only if it benefits him. He's kind hearted but narrowminded on his goals of just wanting people to be free he doesn't seem to really care that much about the nuances.I’m not expecting Luffy to suddenly realize he’s the reincarnation of the world’s first pirate and the reincarnation of a god and declare it , but if Oda can do this whole story where he can pull off Luffy being the chosen one without Luffy realizing what he’s been chosen for, then I’m gonna be mighty impressed.
