We got a name for another one of Law's crew members! The guy with the white mask is named Hakugan.

We are getting so close to several big revelations. Who exactly Vegapunk is and what he looks like, why Kuma submitted to the experiments, and the exact nature of Bonney's powers (including her fruit's name). This arc is already raising some hype.

Why does old luffy look like a bad end Luffy?
And the most surprising part of this chapter is how weak black beard was. Id thought he'd be stronger than Big Mom or Kaido but he cant even fight Law. Ace is a fucking jobber.
And also surprised that Laws crew arent a bunch of jobbers

Don't forget the truth about what the Devil Fruits actually are.

1. I think Bonney's power just fast-forwards or rewinds based on what is there at the moment; it doesn't take into account years of life experience because it doesn't happen, hence why Luffy is a long-haired but full-toothed bad ending Luffy instead of a Garp lookalike. Same as to why it didn't turn Chopper into either of his endings (just an old pre-timeskip Walk Point Chopper) or why kid Jimbei still has the scar on his left eye.
2. Remember, Ace fucked him up too before he revealed his powers, talked too much, got his ass kicked, and then wrecked Ace before handing him off to the Navy. And that was when he only had the Dark-Dark Fruit. It's too early to tell if Law and the Heart Pirates will make it out unscathed.
3. Shachi's remark about life the North Blue, I guess kinda vindicates him and Penguin, no idea about the other ones who aren't Bepo or Jean Bart.

-I think the fact the cover story and the main story synced the way they did this chapter might be a side-effect of Oda doing all those color covers lately. IDK if it's an editor mandate or personal choice or what but I'm concerned it might mess up the storytelling somewhere.
-I've been wondering about that "Tyrant" epithet they gave Kuma back at the beginning of the Dressrosa arc. Then at the beginning of the Wano arc we find out he was actual royalty. And now we find out there's a deeper conspiracy behind it. I'm gonna wait for the official before any more thought on this one because what race could Kuma possibly be that the WG wanted him so bad.

One thing we know Blackbeard has is endurance. Against both Ace and Whitebeard he took a hefty hits and kept going.

I think the cover pages lining up at this point was a choice to streamline the plot in a more organic way. It lets Oda fill in something that could be explained with a few clunky text boxes in a better way. We don't need Pudding to mention how she ended up as the crew's captive because we've seen that.

As for Kuma's race Lunarin (think that's the right spelling) would be the logical assumption. Unless there's multiple races the World Government is obsessed with.

I'm absolutely convinced the cover chapter ended up how it did because Oda cut ~10 chapters from Wano.

I'm half convinced Oda took this week off because Hunter X Hunter was back. He knew it would be a great opportunity.

Today is Wanda's birthday!

Volume 104 SBS is out

Oda reveals the full backstory of the Kid Pirates:

Kid, Killer, Heat, and Wire were born in a certain island in the South Blue unaffiliated with the World Government, which was ruled by a criminal gang that acted as its royalty. The island was subdivided into four districts, which each had its own local criminal gang, each led by the four aforementioned characters, with conflicts arising on a daily basis. In spite of that, Kid and Killer had been childhood friends since they were young. At some point Kid and Killer became close friends with a girl called Victoria S. (Shirton) Doruyanaika, who became their first crush for the both of them. This character was previously mentioned and talked about in the Volumes 87 and 98 SBS. You can read those previous SBS answers here.

However, one day Victoria was killed by the gang ruling the country. This drove Kid so mad that he united the four gangs from the four districts, and led a coup d’état alongside Killer, Heat, and Wire to take down the criminal gang from power, overthrowing the current rule. After that event, Kid told the others that he "didn’t want to live in such a confined world", so he formed a pirate crew with the four of them and set out the sea, naming their ship the “Victoria Punk” in Victoria’s memory.
Oda explains how Hiyori got to Onigashima:

Hiyori made it to Onigashima during the Raid by hiding among Orochi's treasure tributes to the Beasts Pirates, intel she attained as an oiran during her trips to the castle. This is why she appeared at the Treasure Repository during the Raid where the treasure tributes were left.

Holy shit, dude, that got me in the kokoro.

Just got out of Film Red. Some thoughts:

Rating it 7.5/10

Overall its better than I'd expect from an anime film.

-Uta is super effective as a villain. When the Marines first confronted her through the Fleeting Lullaby sequence is easily the best part of the film.
-The Demon King was fucking lame. Bad design, terrible fight.
-The directing in this film is pretty bad. The film feels frantic at times, using fast camera movements and CGI cum shots to distract viewers from the stiffness of the animation. You never get a sense of the scale of what's happening because the camera never lingers long enough on a shot for your brain to process it. While some of the action is good, the director never frames it effectively. The best animated sequences felt like the show's opening sequence and not like, you know, a fight.
-Gordon's reasoning for not destroying the world-ending weapon was super lame. Just say the sheet music was lost in the demon king's rampage and Uta found it in the ensuing decade. Holy heck.
-Shanks is pretty awesome here.
-The Yashopp and Usopp sequence was great. Usopp gradually synching up with his dad was pure kino.
-Movie is way too fucking long. No reason to knock Luffy out and drag ass for ten minutes during the climax.

This was a fun chapter.
I love these dorks.

We're just full steam ahead to learning about the Void Century! You mean to tell me the world of One Piece once had mechas all over the place? Fuck yeah!

There's a likely chance I'm seeing Film Red tomorrow night, not sure if it'll be dub or sub, one of my brothers is buying the tickets.

A'ight, my thoughts on Film Red.

I liked it, but it's not exactly something that's mind-blowing. I will say that, as a singer, I like the idea of how Uta's powers was utilized and I could honestly see myself doing that if I had her powers. Too Japanese-pop idoly at some parts, but the emotions match up. I don't believe I ever heard Ado before now, but holy shit she's got range. I don't know how the dub can match that in all honesty, I don't even know if they had the dub actress sing or not. But either way, I like how Uta expressed herself throughout. There was a group of jackasses behind us who guffawed every time she sang, and it's like wtf were you expecting from a character literally named "Song"? Even one of my brothers was taken aback at the musical numbers and it's like "BRO, the girl is a singer. She's gonna sing."

The twist of Uta having unintentionally been the one to be Elegia's destruction feels a bit half-assed, but eh, whatever. Sometimes you just need a kid character who brings about the end of the world, and what that did to her psyche links up. Girl was going nuts, which is always a welcome in my book.

Now I'm still questioning on how canon she actually is, though. Her place in canon throws things off a bit if she is, though I still think the relationship she and Luffy have is sweet, which is why her being the villain Luffy had to bring himself to stop is real effective (though there could've been more oomph at times). Seeing Luffy glomp a girl is like an alien concept, but maybe she's the closest to a sister he has. It's rather brutal he never really got to properly part ways with her, though, and the way he just kinda shrugs that off at the very end is... strange. It seems to be heavily implied she's dead now, but I dunno, kinda wish we got to see some closure in that since, well, if she was Shanks' adopted daughter, why not see those final moments he has with her on the ship? Maybe that's just me.

While it's nice we got to see Brûlee and Oven again, they sadly felt underwhelming. Plot-convenience got them to show up at Elegia, and it's possible some of the stuff that happened wouldn't have worked well if they weren't there. Koby did more than they did. Fucking Blueno was more useful and he was a punchline at the end of the day.

Crunchyroll or whoever did the subs need to get good, get some fucking editors, or get someone else with long-term memory to transcribe for them, they were consistent with going with "Navy" instead of "Marine" until the third act where they then couldn't make up their minds which word to use. Would be pretty hilarious if someone had to fill in for the main transcriber midway and they didn't bother going back to check for consistency.

Anyhoo, was a nice way to spend a couple hours. Has a bit more rewatch value than Stampede, personally, but I think it's just because the music was nice and I may-or-may-not put a few songs on my MP3 player to start singing to because some of those pieces slap.
