There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

And it was almost a year ago it was reported that North Korea was on the brink of another famine: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...-drought-pushes-millions-towards-malnutrition
I wonder if it's just a :ruse: and Kim is doing this only for provisions and will yank the rug out from under us, then I realize that the "Hermit State" is anything but that now that the
Jangmadang has smuggled in everything from instant ramen (the good kind with meat and veggies that aren't just peas and carrots) to motorcycles and cell phones.

I mean, they're still impoverished, but not in the sense that the citizens are still a brainwashed cult following their dear leader to utopia (via the destruction of NK's enemies).
The more you learn about the world, the more you become aware of others and how you come to judge them, not by propaganda and state-run news networks. Free Will is a hell of a drug.

TL;DR- Kim Jong Un is going with this peace treaty to save his own ass from being Gadaffi'd a few years later once the people experience one famine too many.

Very interesting theory

That's a very interesting point that you make.

While it's said that they are ruled in a dictatorship, maybe the state of the country is more due to the corruption of the others in the ruling class, while Un gets the blame (much like how Presidents in the US get blamed for bad things happening in the country, rightly or not).

Maybe this is Un trying to ensure his own safety and get some power of his own, to whatever ends he plans to use it on? Now that a lot of the shady deals Obama made with other countries are coming to light, maybe the fact that Trump's way of doing things with how he acted (since everyone was interested in the American election, which kinda blew my mind since a lot of Americans don't pay attention to other nations' elections) emboldened Un? While I know that it's not a new thing and this has been going on for a while, many of things that Trump has been saying are anti-China (due to trying to move manufacturing and other stuff to domestic rather than trade with China) and since tbh America is more powerful than China

It could also be that since he's been outside America, and following the theory that the military is really in control, sees that to the outside world he appears to be the real leader. And therefore by him brokering peace with countries like the USA and its allies (when it comes to China) he could be trying to get the prosperity that other countries have, and since other places recognize him as leader it could go through.

That also puts a new light on the nuclear testing. Maybe he was doing that to prevent China from attacking, which is why they never pushed hard for actual long-range stuff? They might bloviate about it and threaten the US to not cause suspicion in China but really if they could get Japan then they can get China. Although with human rights they state they are in China idk if they would care.

Edit: Of course I could be totally wrong and for once the MSM are actually right about someone's character.

If this goes through AND Trump really ends the blanket ban on marihuana, there's nothing short of sudden death to prevent him from being re-elected.

Or an economic collapse worse than the 2008 recession, something that the ultra-partisan Never-Trumpers are praying to every deity possible to make happen. Bill Maher on his most recent show was basically the only one of their ilk to openly admit that they hope it comes true, so now you know how desperate these people are becoming after this

My least favorite moment of the summit: Jim Acosta of CNN trying to disrupt the talks by screaming his idiocy at inappropriate times.

At 2:41:10 they caught him on a "hot mic" after that stunt, too.

"Hey, if they’re not going to let me in the fucking meeting, then that’s what happens."

So how long before Acosta, like Kurt Eichenwald, merits a lolcow thread himself?

I'd argue he already merits one.

And he's got plenty more where those come from, too. He's living the harem anime dream, plus he get's all the Hennessy he can drink.

Imagine the grip China must have on his balls to (potentially) want to just get away from all that. Those are nice uniforms though, no sarcasm.

Quite possibly the greatest thing I have ever seen in my entire life. The words that come out of Trump’s mouth. Kim's fucking reaction, intentional or not. The perfect timing of the pan and zoom. Fucking incredible. We've reached the peak, lads.

The BBC are claiming on News 24 that the Norks are claiming Trump agreed to lift sanctions.

I'm not one of those people that believes that a slight bump in popularity for any (R) equals "He's sewn up the black vote!" but goddamnit if Kanye West and Dennis Rodman push Trump's popularity up a bit more...yeah, the Democrats had best brace themselves for a trip to the woodshed in 2018 and 2020 and very possibly 2024. I'm not so naive as to think that this will happen, just that the environment is right.

I don't think it helps that the DNC are filled with a bunch of incompetents and that one woman who can't just STFU about it being "Her time!"

President Donald Trump tried a dose of Hollywood drama as he sought to sway North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during their historic summit.

Using an iPad, Trump said, he showed Kim a short video made on his behalf, laying out the opportunities that could come with an agreement to eliminate North Korea's nuclear arsenal — a story about "two men, two leaders, one destiny."

Reminiscent of a movie trailer, the film shows images of warplanes and artillery while a narrator suggests in English and Korean that "a new world can begin today, one of friendship, respect and goodwill."

"We had it made up. I showed it to him today, actually during the meeting, toward the end of the meeting and I think he loved it," Trump said during a news conference. The video was broadcast on big screens at the start of Tuesday's press conference.
