There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

Frankly, it's a factor of many things- Between Trump entering office, KJI dying, and Fatty being a certified loony, even compared to his father and grandfather. There was no question that shit was going to happen. It's just a matter of when, or if, those generals will be able to pull off a successful coop and assassinate Un's fat ass before China, the US or anyone else gets to him first.

I don't see his Generals being ready to make a move anytime soon, while he isn't popular with his staff particularly the long list of old retainers they are worried about what he has in place for cases just like this. NK has survived by doing an impressive amount of Gymnastics but Kim 3 is doing the same internally it's why he dresses the way he does he's trying to channel the memories of his Grand Father who is still well respected by the general populace (even if that's in error) but signify he's a leader in a new style. But as I said before he's on really shaky ground news is getting in about what life could be like if the people were just a little more free despite how bad the repercussions are for people who are found with none sanctioned media, hell look at what happens when a NK citizen defects and goes to SK there are reports of them breaking down and crying when they see a small corner shop fully stocked with snack food that's more food than they have ever seen let alone been able to eat, imagine an idea as basic as freely available food is to somebody who has a small food ration that can only improve if you move up the ranks of the party is.

I only brought up Russia because I know Putin's been chomtping at the bit to get the Ruskies back into combat that's more local (read: not Syria) and North Korea is just an easy target to go after which nobody would mind being taken out of play on the world stage.

TBH I don't see any other army that can match NK's tactics and that's Wave of Meat in the way the Russians can, the US and SK can deal with it from a technological perspective but the way NK would fight is a direct copy of a tactic the USSR invented and are very good at.

Pakistan (keep in mind that both Pakistan and India are nuclear powers) would do it just to piss off the West if they thought they could get away with it.
I'm sure the US would just throw a hissy fit, but otherwise allow it given the situation. It'd probably be the only time either of them would be on the same page.

One possibility that i never see anyone talk about to explain why their still willing to use diplomacy even now is because they know that if a war breaks out it could give a clearer understanding of horrors they've been enabling for decades, they probably have a better idea than we do about what goes on inside their borders.

Even if a war goes horribly for the US/SK, a handful of the tens of thousands of people who've been interned in the labor camps or family members of the millions of people who've died from starvation in front of a news camera could make it all seem worth it and make NK's "allies" look horrible, and it wouldn't just be China and Russia, that includes Cuba and countries in the middle east and Africa who've dealt with them.

A lot of "anti-imperialist" world leaders who've defended NK could have egg on their face if this is blown wide open.
Well, China and Russia are already feeling the heat. But I doubt Cuba or Africa want anything to do with this matter unless Un directly threatens them too.

Seriously, why are the three most powerful countries in the world still treating him with kid gloves? If this were a middle eastern country then they would have been carpet bombed into oblivion by now.
is it literally because they have no resources that can be salvaged when they lose? Or is it because they actually do have weapons of mass destruction?
Its because the Norks aren't fucking retarded. Even conventionally, they won't be pushovers. They aren't the Iraqi/Saudi Arabs, they aren't dogshit at war. Their training manuals helped Hezbollah slap Israel down silly.
Even with the mass starvation of their people, and the economic strangulation of the Nork military, the Norks are a serious face force that will inflict notable casualties.

Not to mention the threat of China backing them up.

I thought the left considers Kim Jong-un a golden boy who deserves nukes for protection against us Yankee imperialists and those dang Japs (ironic considering the second username). As Trump is literally Hitler, we both deserve to perish like it's Dresden and Hiroshima again. I mean, their beloved Clintons allowed the Norks to conduct research without any consequences.
Well if someone believed that I can see why they'd cling to the republican brand no matter how against their own interests

Pakistan (keep in mind that both Pakistan and India are nuclear powers) would do it just to piss off the West if they thought they could get away with it.
Pakistan's nuclear arsenal is extremely short range, and primarily aimed at the Shitting Streets. Even if they wanted to (and why would they, the Pakistanis sold a load of info to the North Koreans regarding nuclear development and rocketry) they don't have the capability.

Its because the Norks aren't fucking exceptional. Even conventionally, they won't be pushovers. They aren't the Iraqi/Saudi Arabs, they aren't dogshit at war. Their training manuals helped Hezbollah slap Israel down silly.

The North Koreans are a mostly conscript force that is barely fed enough to survive, equipped with Second World War and mid cold war leftovers with a handful of "modern" gear and some of the most bizarre juryrigging you'll ever see. We're talking about Igla's and Strela's slapped onto the top of T-62's and BMP's because they don't have enough actual SAM's to even attempt to deny the Airspace to the South Koreans. The SAM's they do have are also the same kind that did almost nothing during '91 against the Coalition Forces.

The main threat of the NK military conventionally is the damage that they're going to do to Seoul.

How do you manage to be so wrong about everything?

The NK army is a fucking joke that is just as malnourished as its population. The problem is that even starving, malnourished soldiers can operate artillery and nukes. The whole situation is worrying about SK, Japan and even China. The regime clearly has given no fucks and if it thinks its in a death spiral, it will just launch nukes at everyone. The worry is the casualties that it will inflict to Seoul and Japan. If there were no allies in arty range and nukes could be shot down, fatty would be dead long before now with China looking the other way.

The problem is nobody knows how to decapitate the NK command structure (without nuking them) fast enough so that millions of civilians just don't die. In a straight up normal war, forget it. You've got malnourished soldiers to begin with, you don't even have to engage them. Blow apart their supply lines and they'll just disintegrate. Its a war of logistics if it came to that. But it isn't.

And lol if you think that China would ever back up NK at this point. NK has become a HUGE liability in terms of trade and economics. Our problem with China is that China clearly can no longer control their little puppet, even if they wanted to. It isn't even a puppet anymore. Usually NK rhetoric would just jab at the US, but active shit like this is jabbing at Japan, SK and the US. If NK does strike first, China will get the blame and that will basically end the discussion over the South China Sea completely. NK was their little pet that got out of control and completely fucked up Asia. If China can somehow reign Korea in, then they've got way more bargaining power over the South China Sea.

China still does business with them because guess what, they don't want to eat a nuke in the face either. NK clearly will have no problem turning on daddy China. Right now we can only do more sanctions as there really isn't a preemptive military option. Also, nobody wants to rebuild Korea. The whole thing would be aimed at regime change with China in control of picking the successor. The US doesn't want to pay for it (SK sure as shit doesn't) and China doesn't want the refugees. If, by some miracle, there is a plan to cut the leadership off quickly with little damage to Japan and Seoul, you bet China would just look the other way. The problem is that option just does not exist right now, if it ever could besides a teleporting Seal Team 6.

North Korea: Russia Tells Trump To Be Bigger Person and Step Back

Russia is urging the U.S. to step back from any nuclear one-upmanship with North Korea, whose government outlets have repeatedly threatened a strike on U.S. territory.

“The stronger and the smarter one will show restraint,” Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Monday, state news agency Itar-Tass reported. “In the current situation any brash move could cause an explosion,” the minister added.

North Korea has demonstrated an increasing missile range, boasted it can miniaturize nuclear fissile material to mount it on missiles and last week conducted another nuclear explosion test. U.S. allies in the region feel most directly threatened by the North’s advancements and the U.S. sent its most advanced fighter jets to train with South Korea and Japan last week as a sign of assurance.

Ryabkov kept up a similar line, stressing that “Pyongyang should cease its provocative actions” but also blamed Washington for responding to North Korea’s nuclear program with punitive actions.

“Here a lot hinges on our American colleagues who, sadly, continue to largely show a willingness for talking in a language of sanctions and threats, rather than seeking a resolution through the means of diplomatic meetings,” Ryabkov said.

Lol fuck off Sergei. It's clear that diplomacy has failed at this point and war is pretty much inevitable.

And what will you do if Fatty decides that attacking the US and its allies aren't enough and turns his shoddy misslles onto your mother land? Just sit back and watch as millions possibly die?

Discussions are not working at all. Just bomb the shit out of them if you don't want the US to and get it over with.

Dealing with North Korea right now is like putting a bell on the cat. We all agree it's something that should be done it's just that nobody wants to be the one to risk it and do it.

Trump speaks with South Korean president as tensions with North Korea simmer.
Sept. 4, 2017, at 12:12 p.m.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump and his South Korean counterpart spoke on the phone Monday morning for the first time since North Korea boasted of another nuclear test.

Trump and South Korean President Moon Jae-in agreed to remove the limit on the payload of South Korean missiles as part of the countries' response to the North's move on Sunday, South Korea's presidential office said in a statement. The North claimed it had detonated a hydrogen bomb underground.

Both leaders also agreed that the latest test was a grave provocation that was "unprecedented."

The phone call came as the U.N. Security Council was holding its second emergency meeting in a week on the subject. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis on Sunday said the U.S. will answer any threat from the North with a "massive military response."

Trump has grown increasingly frustrated with the response of other countries to North Korean provocations. Over the weekend, he threatened to halt all trade with countries doing business with the North, a veiled warning to China, and faulted South Korea for its "talk of appeasement."

Trump is also considering triggering a withdrawal from a free trade agreement with South Korea, a business lobbying group said Saturday, raising concerns about a move that could cause a fresh economic rift between allies at a moment of heightened tensions with a common foe.

Not to mention the threat of China backing them up.

After NK outright threw the gauntlet down in declaring China a potential enemy, I don't think China is all that interested in backing those fuckers up anymore.

This is what gets me the most. Way back during the election last year, Trump flippantly suggested reducing the sanctions on North Korea and perhaps even pulling out.

How in the fuck nobody's had the balls to point out Trump had no grasp of the situation even back then given how much the media loves to attack Trump is beyond me.

Nah, that's legit. Hell, they could do all the tests they wanted to, but they are obsessed with being dickasses to everyone. Its well beyond the point of toughman talk.

And if weren't for that shit, North Korea's relationship with China would be fine and they would be very well off. They could have possibly have had the nuclear weapons years ago, but they want to be dickasses.

Everybody now sees the problem. The problem is that the Norks are apparently starting to believe their own bullshit, and might actually start the war themselves.

Trump wanted to bring them to the table and basically ask them to calm the fuck down.

North Korea had an official song made by their North Korean female K-Pop band for the upcoming nuclear war called "Nuclear War".

I am 100% serious

>Have a K-Pop song made specifically for when you're nuking and killing Capitalist scum.

Retarded manchild leader and starving population aside, it's pretty fucking bad-ass to release a song straight up called nuclear war. I mean, it's not gonna stop them from getting turned into a parking lot, but the thought is cool at least.

Yeah, just do nothing! I'm sure the problem will fix itself. *yawn*
