The shitty part is that the Switch 2 will probably do just fine in sales & create a new normal. $600 handheld consoles.
launch maybe but I just don't see this thing having strong legs after the first year without major shifts, unless people are cultishly devoted to nintendo

I just blankly stared at my screen speechless after seeing this.
It's one of those moments where I'm genuinely at a loss for words for what I have just witnessed.
I feel especially retarded today, but I am completely in the dark -- what am I supposed to be looking at in that picture?

Fucking sadly. On a somewhat related note, since Nintendo's overall "quality" is on trial right now...

The "little details" have been going away slowly but surely for a long time. The Yokois and Iwatas are dead, the Miyamotos are retiring/retired, and the talent pool of greats is steadily going away.
If one wanted to make a counter-argument, Super Mario Sunshine was full of errors. But those were clearly a result of being rushed out, whereas Odyssey looks like a finished product.

The best way I can describe what's happening to Nintendo's output is that it feels increasingly 'flat'. Like it should have the old Nintendo magic of serious quality when you look at it on the surface, but then you dig a bit deeper and there's nothing there. The newest Mario Strikers game was a great example of this.

If gaming becomes as expensive as financing a car, that cuts out over half of their prior demographics. Something about this is a test run. How much blood can they get outta this turnip? Know what I’m sayin’ butta dawg?
I'd rather see the retards getting priced out and watch them burn shit than anything else. So far, what's "new" is basically just lip service to convince the holdouts to invest in it.

Someone in the US Politics thread made a good point that this feels more like them trying to use the tariffs to cover their ass for the pricing of things. Idk maybe, maybe not I just don’t understand why even say anything when it’s still too new and you weren’t even letting people preorder the fucking thing. People can’t even say it’s a Switch 2 thing, I remember very clearly that the Switch 1 had a bit of a wait for its pre-orders too. Again wouldn’t be shocked if this was a plan by the faggots at NOA, this is what happens when we lose Reggie and replace him with a do nothing faggot like Bowser and not even the cool fire breathing turtle one.
Exactly. I logged into the Nintendo Store where I am after the Direct, like everyone, honestly to check the price and see if it had gone live and got greated with 395 and and preorders go live on the 9th.

Then NoA comes out and says ‘due to tarriffs we are pushing it from the 8th to the 9th and reconsidering prices’

Massive turmoil and it’s only one day? One day that would put it in line with everywhere else and you are saying you are thinking about changing the price.

Oh and the games elsewhere won’t be 80 either, at most they’ll be 70.

This feels like NoA overcharging and getting teeth kicked for it and using Tarrifs as a cover to put things in line with everywhere else.

There has been a lot of confusion going on over the full price of the games, regardless of the fact that even if some are $90 or not, it is still rather high.

Really, the fact that this has led to all this uproar really means that Nintendo has to come out and clarify sooner rather than later, especially to all the parents who will want to get it for their kids come the holidays.

Even if they can’t afford it in their budget (if they even make one.)
They never make one. I’m poor in terms of money I have to spend on this kind of stuff and even I will have enough money to spend on this without batting an eye. That’s how I know they don’t budget.

And the kids are all going to be waiting till Christmas on mass for it. Even the poorest have 6-7 months to save enough for the console and a few games.

You’ll note the people raging are the ones that want every single game and console on release at full price with no thought giving to bundle deals, digital sales, holiday sales etc and are clearly only using ‘how will the poor cope?’ as a way to disguise their own anger that they can’t buy everything day 1.

I get about 5 games a year, most of those from other people on special occasions.

2nd April - Nintendo announces price
3rd April - Trump announces tariffs

Nintendo - The high price is because of tariffs! Not because we totally don't give a fuck about our customers who will buy our slop anyway!
Retards - derp, orinj man making niggertendo increase price.

Use your fucking brains. Nintendo are using the tariffs to cover their arse for over-playing their hand and having the audacity to charge £90 for games. Nintendo know their fans are Apple-tier retards who will buy anything and they won't be the last company to blame tarrifs.

Not to state the obvious but did you guys think tariffs weren't going to affect the price of electronics? Thats literally what they're there for.
On the contrary I'm glad they are and it's what I voted for. It's very funny.

Everything makes more sense when you realize Nintendo is clearly using Disney as a blueprint for where to proceed from here. Their bread and butter going forward will be movies and theme parks. Games will be the expensive novelty that the richest people can afford and they fully expect their core audience of sycophants to foot the bill no matter how expensive because they received zero push back for all the other shit they did the last ten to twenty years.

Disney, similarly, has shifted their money making schemes regarding their parks and merchandise to capitalize on rich whales who will gladly fork over 8K for three nights in a shitty hotel and to buy extremely overpriced Star Wars merch at the park.

The days of being the affordable family option are certainly coming to an end for Nintendo.

Funniest thing it is only in the US. Which is probably why they did not say price. Because NoA wanted to charge more than everywhere else.

And now it is fucking them in the arse

Nintendo being "the Disney of video games" has always been a thing, for better or worse. It's like how Mickey Mouse is one of the most iconic characters in fiction, whereas "the mouse" is often used as a derogatory way of referring to Disney as a whole.

The Switch 2 hardware has no native compatibility with the Switch 1, unlike other Nintendo systems that included hardware from the previous gen to ensure backwards compatibility, this was not an option for the Switch 2. Hence 100% compatibility is not guarantied and is this specially true for 3rd party Switch 1 titles.

One has to wonder if this is why Nintendo was so particularly virulent in their pursuit to shut down all Switch 1 emulator projects and take possession of their source code.

Not that Nintendo is above using preexisting emulators in their own stuff:
