I just blankly stared at my screen speechless after seeing this.
It's one of those moments where I'm genuinely at a loss for words for what I have just witnessed.
People are really, really mad they can't get a Nintendo console with Nvidia chips that kinda/sorta does 4k for 300 bucks in current year, enough that they fedpost about Drumph.

Schizo theory rainbow-magnet: Nintendo will drop the price of either the system or Mario Kart due to mass backlash, then blame the initially-high price on tariff estimates.
Definitely too optimistic, even more optimistic than what I would theorise Nintendo capable of considering a lack of precedent, especially when it comes to their pricing. Remember Mario All-Stars? Them not increasing the price of the Switch 2 at all is the optimistic outcome, assuming an increase is isolated to just the console. Shit, imagine a $550 Switch 2 and paying $100 for Mario Kart!

For them to not intentionally increase prices in response to backlash, we have to operate on the idea that they're aware of the price complaints of the Switch 2 and games at all (it's possible the scale of complaints is not as high perceived? Or are just much quieter in Japan where the console is cheapest) and that they're actually worried it'll affect sales abroad. This then turns them delaying pre-orders to assess the tariffs into a cynical ploy by Nintendo to get good PR. Again, there's not much precedent for them caring about PR, at least to my mind.

First they make people afraid of an increase by delaying pre-orders, reveal it's unchanged after a month, and subsequently people will be grateful for Nintendo's benevolence and forget their initial price complaints. Extra points if Nintendo make a show of it, saying, "We were going to raise it, but considering everyone's situation in these trying times, we decided against it." That would be too on the nose though. A funny outcome would be to announce pre-orders continuing on the ninth as expected after a day or two of announcing this, earning the same result.

Outside of Nintendo trying to make people happy with the original price as a tactic, we could possibly see a situation where the tariffs won't affect much of anything at all, however unlikely that may be, so they have no just cause to raise it. They keep the price unchanged and the aforementioned PR will just be a happy by-product. Or they see there's no need to raise it because tariffs haven't affected things, but do so anyway since they now have a valid excuse, knowing people will buy it anyway.

Oh, I finally got it. Yeah, its a shame that he missed but not because of Nintendo.
Thank you Adolf Hitler Mario PFP for the riveting political analysis in the Nintendo Switch (currently plagued) thread
Trump should tweet at Nintendo. $200.00
"Nintendo, they are not sending their best, they are sending 80 dollar ubislop, they are sending mobile phone apps from dead rising 3, they are charging you for the manual, some of them are good people I assume, but a vast majority are raping our wallets letting troons pink pill their kids on Nintendo chat, it's disgusting!"

My older brother is really pissed about the price of the new console and blaming Trump. Saying that the console is cheaper in Japan because of the tariffs.

Tell him it’s even more expensive in the EU.
(505 USD.)
Because of tariffs lol

Hmm, thats funny, Nintendo just took down the two livestreams. I wonder why...

Because they just uploaded all the segments as separate videos now.

"Chyna? They have the decency to give their slop games away for free." Breathes in sharply through teeth. "On the computer. You can play their games on your home computer, if you didn't know that. Nintendo meanwhile- the great Nintendo, are charging 80 dollars, 80 whole dollars. They're going to nickel and dime you and your kids for Bing Bing Wahoo. Very, very disrespectful."

Remember Mario All-Stars?
Fucking sadly. On a somewhat related note, since Nintendo's overall "quality" is on trial right now...

The "little details" have been going away slowly but surely for a long time. The Yokois and Iwatas are dead, the Miyamotos are retiring/retired, and the talent pool of greats is steadily going away.

Crossposting from the Xenoblade X thread. A decensorship and re-translation patch now exists for X

a dedicated autist weeb has taken up the mantle of re-translating all the Xenoblade games. He has a comprehensive re-translation for 2 because of how butchered it was, and has released preliminary patches for 1, 3 and X. 1 and 3 are mostly name changes and some minor dialogue edits in 3 (such as the complete removal of the tranny). X he said hes only going to do names, but has now decided to re-do the whole main story. There is also now a decensorship patch, as Monolith left all the un-altered costumes in the game files. It's included with the re-translation patch.

I really like that everyone is screaming about that when that is 1 day after preorders were going live anyway.

I don’t but this is tariff related.

That’s exactly what they are doing and you can’t convince me otherwise. After all, it is one extra day.
Someone in the US Politics thread made a good point that this feels more like them trying to use the tariffs to cover their ass for the pricing of things. Idk maybe, maybe not I just don’t understand why even say anything when it’s still too new and you weren’t even letting people preorder the fucking thing. People can’t even say it’s a Switch 2 thing, I remember very clearly that the Switch 1 had a bit of a wait for its pre-orders too. Again wouldn’t be shocked if this was a plan by the faggots at NOA, this is what happens when we lose Reggie and replace him with a do nothing faggot like Bowser and not even the cool fire breathing turtle one.

Nowadays I think, neat features/details have become a fodder for marketing (remember RDR2's 'shrinking horse balls'?) rather than something for players to find in-game and appreciate put in there from developers who cared. A part of the problem I see, aside from less talent, is that game engines and other shit related to development have become so complex and time consuming, that trying to implement seemingly basic things like a conditional idle animation, just isn't worth the time investment and potential headaches that come with trying to put it in. I also imagine there's very little room for individual dev freedom nowadays to implement something that could risk extending dev time — even if they had the time considering deadlines and crunch. That sleeping animation from Mario 64 might have been the work of a single developer in his free time who did it just because — I can't imagine that's possible today.

Out of curiosity I checked what 'details' players missed in Odyssey through skimming a couple of videos. A lot of them are just references to past games, related to audio, or small differences in animations; a small variation on Mario's sleeping animation does happen in each world where they have a different coloured bird perches on his nose, but that's about it.

If I felt the need to shit on Nintendo specifically compared to their contemporaries, I would probably highlight how they seem to skimp on certain things. You can contrast visible effort and laziness on the same game a lot of the time, such as breath of the wild having good exploration and a pretty art style, but low enemy variety with simple combat and dungeons. They're like if FromSoftware was an entire publishing company and game conglomerate. With FromSoft you roll your eyes at seeing the Demon's Souls skeleton animation being re-used for the dozenth time or Sif's animations being used again for another dog-boss, because Elden Ring feels more grand and has a larger scope than Dark Souls. When Nintendo do the same with Tears of the Kingdom however, it just feels cheap. I think despite a lot of older people playing games nowadays and most companies being conscious of that, Nintendo ultimately still cater their first party products towards the under-13s demographic, who I guess could give less of a shit about such things in their mind. Combine that with rigidity in game development, it could answer why they've declined in some areas but remain on top in others.

The mass enshittification of gaming with microtransactions, DLCs, season passes, various editions, $70 games, always online, Denuvo DRM, poor optimization, data harvesting, lack of ownership, etc: I sleep.

Nintendo raising their prices: "MURDER! BLOODLUST! KILL KILL KILL!!!"
Corpo dicksuckery and 85iq mob mentality at its finest, no ability to understand this shit's a "either it all gets torched or nothing does" situation, just getting angry in the present tense at all times over things that have been set up by dozens of others for 20 years now.

How could you bring up enshittification without mentioning the latest (?) cancer - paying 10-20 bucks extra for a few days' early access.

There's been talk about games becoming more expensive for a while now, and it was expected that GTA 6 would be the first one to do it. Ninty pulled their cock out first though, so they're gonna get the brunt of the anger.

I will point out, once again, that Nintendo picked and announced April 2nd before Trump did and that NCL sets worldwide prices (hence dollar/euro amount parity for the past twenty years despite actual fluctuations between the two currencies.)

Anyone know if the first switch (including OLED version) will drop in price? I can’t imagine the Switch 2 not having backwards compatibility, but $600 is ridiculous. I still think the Switch original was too expensive for what it was. Iirc, it’s between $250-$350 already for the OG switch. $250 & change for the basic version & $350 ish for the bigger screen + slight spec increase.

Consoomer’s buying costly consoles will just empower companies to hike prices even more. Emulating levels the playing field for many people. Nintenfags fine with a console doubling in price, in droves, drives up the price. Nintendo needs to get real. Even more so, consoomers need to chill the fuck out a little.

I used to think kids were the main market for Nintendo, now I think it’s aging 30 something dudes. Guys who only play games, no life, no regular interaction, with plenty of expendable income easily buying $600 consoles & games at $100 a pop. Even if they can’t afford it in their budget (if they even make one.) Those faggots will still buy it at $600 & if Nintendo does well enough with this Switch 2 debut, then there is the answer. 30 something man children will be known as the demographic catered to, because there’s no way in hell Nintendo thinks everyday normal families can throw down $600 a piece for multiple units for their multiple kids, plus games. Always new games.

If gaming becomes as expensive as financing a car, that cuts out over half of their prior demographics. Something about this is a test run. How much blood can they get outta this turnip? Know what I’m sayin’ butta dawg?

So first, game companies don’t even cater to gamers anymore, & now they are trying to turn it into some kind of financing operation with the price hikes. The shitty part is that the Switch 2 will probably do just fine in sales & create a new normal. $600 handheld consoles.

It hasn't been announced so noone knows. If Switch 2 had been at 400 they would have pretty much had to but at 450, who knows. With the tariffs its definitely not dropping in the US anytime soon.

Edit: People don't seem to notice but Nintendo has been dropping old but big games to 30 on Black Fridays for a few years now. They could do that permanently, possibly digital only, to try to get some more blood from the stone.
