Itoi has also apparently gone on record and said that Jeff's friend in Mother 2 (a sprite you see for maybe one scene) was gay... yeah. Something tells me he didn't mention that to Nintendo at inception, at least I hope so.
Sounds like another case of retrconning faggotry into past works, like Celeste and Harry Potter. I'm hope if we ever get Mother remakes or Mother 4 that Itoi isn't involved.

This is sooper late, but after thinking about it I actually agree. The ignorant will moan at how behind the curve Nintendo is on hardware, but one, that’s how Nintendo actually remains profitable, and two, that’s kind of the limit of what a portable system is capable of.

Because we have the Steam Deck now, right. And the Steam Deck has created a market of Steam Deck competitors – stuff like the ROG Ally and the Ayaneo. And for the current price point ($400-$700), we generally seem to have hit a limit of what’s possible in portable hardware, and it’s right around “about as powerful as a PS4” specs.

The ROG Ally and Ayaneo can push things beyond that a little bit, but the added power consumption basically makes the battery on these things worthless. Which is to say nothing about system heat; the ROG Ally was famous for having an emergency ejector function that would suddenly launch the SD card from the slot like a missile under the danger that it was getting so hot it might melt.

We’re simply at the boundary of what’s possible in that form factor, doubly confirmed by Valve stating last year that we wouldn’t see a Steam Deck 2 “for at least a couple years.” For something this light, this thin, this is as stable and as usable as it gets. I imagine the Switch 2 will be somewhat competitive in this arena, but not quite as powerful or versatile as a Steam Deck. But it won’t exactly be a slouch, either. It’ll be the sort of thing where a $300 Switch 2 will be “good enough” but a $400 Steam Deck will still edge it out in performance.
Honestly agree. Nintendo would be idiotic to drop the 300 dollar price point. Which I'd why switch 2 isn't happening this year. Ps4 performance is what they want, but they also want a better battery life and less heat along with a rock bottom price. They need to wait a little longer for the tech to get there.

Plus there's no rush with hardware selling okay and software doing well. I just hope they're taking this time to ensure an incredible launch lineup.

Absolutely. It's no good if you make a incredible portable console with no games. Let them keep it in the oven until it's good and ready, you get one chance to make a good impression.

and also a bunch of anime stuff
Like what? The only example I can really think of is Guilty Gear.

Yep, and many of their franchises are overdue for entries. It can be a crazy year for them.

That's what I'm hoping for. Also gives guys like me who only got a switch in the last year a time to enjoy them. Because of their crazy sales, there's a lot of people like me. Also gives a chance to beat the PS2

sounds like that's what they're doing:
Nikkei states that the reasoning behind the apparent delay from 2024 is so Nintendo can potentially avoid the stock shortages that plagued the Switch upon its own launch in 2017 and avoid resales. The firm is also reportedly keen to allow developers more time to get their titles in sufficient shape for launch. The report also states that Nintendo will leverage its marketing expertise with popular franchises in its gaming catalogue. In other words, if Mario pops up at some point, don't be surprised.

Curious to see what the launch line up will be. Metroid Prime 4 will probably be cross gen if I understood correctly. A 3D Mario and Mario Kart 9 are probably most likely. Most other franchises had entries that are not that old, so I would be surprised if there is a new Animal Crossing, Mario spinoff and what not at launch. I don't expect Star Fox or F-Zero. Cant imagine what caused the delay, unless Nintendo is willing to resurrect some older IP's.

Game possibilities are starting to pile up. Been a long time since Mario or Mario Kart, Prime 4 *should* be wrapping up some time in the next year, the AC/Splatoon team has quick turn-arounds so you could get one of those, Monolith's mysterious third team has been making something for four or five years now, there's an unkown Nintendo action game (speculated to be a KI:U remake) in development at Bandai Namco, EPD 3(?), the motion control gimmick team, will surely have something. Could be another 2017 for Nintendo fans.

Nintendo Switch 2 release date is March 2025 claims Japanese business report (archive)

The biggest business newspaper in Japan claims that the Switch 2 has been delayed because concerns about scalpers and low stock.

Rather than relying on anonymous internet leakers, the latest rumour about the Nintendo Switch 2 comes from respected Japanese newspaper The Nikkei, which corroborates stories of the new console being delayed into next year.

Multiple Western sources had already suggested the console would not be out this year, but The Nikkei is more specific and claims Nintendo is aiming for a launch in March 2025. That would see it mirror the launch of the original Switch, which arrived on March 3, 2017.

The reasons for the delay are given as wanting to prioritise ‘streamlining the initial sales of the new machine and giving more time to game developers to create popular titles.’

It had already been assumed that the primary reason for the delay was that Nintendo wanted more time to create its first party launch titles (rumoured to be a new 3D Mario and/or Donkey Kong game) and they’ve certainly delayed consoles before in order to make sure key launch games are up to snuff.

The line about streamlining initial sales doesn’t make much obvious sense but the Google translate version of the original Japanese story suggests it actually says ‘securing initial stock’ in Japanese. In other words, Nintendo are worried they won’t have enough consoles to go around until after Christmas.
So basically Nintendo figures that if people won't be able to find the consoles until next year anyways, might as well skip a year of anguish and paying highway robbery costs.

You guys are talking like the Wii U never happened, Nintendo rested on their laurels, and it screwed them over for four years. The rumour is that it is backwards compatible, so if they launched it with a new Mario Kart, people would upgrade just for that.

Unless you count pack in games, Mario Kart 8 is far and away the best selling Nintendo game of all time. There is no way Switch 2 is not getting Mario Kart very early on. If we're being real here, I'm pretty sure it's Nintendo's most important series at this point.

Ahem, don't you mean if you count pack in games? Pretty sure Animal Crossing beats it otherwise. Though, if you did then Wii Sports would beat it.

I think their days of making such mistakes are over. The growing pains of the 5th generation & 6th generations aside, Wii U was their only system to struggle solely due to bad marketing, design, and support. People were confused by what it was, nobody liked the GamePad gimmick (which didn't work out well), and the support was abysmal by Nintendo standards (and a lot of what they did support it with was bad).

They would have to try to fuck up for it to end anywhere near as badly as Wii U, channeling some 90's Sega spirit. It should also be noted Nintendo struggled in transition to HD for some reason, but even that's been ironed out by now.

It's probably their most profitable since they could basically just reuse MK8 but tweak it a bit, add a new coat of paint and content, then voila, MK9 is ready to sell a billion copies.

Something like SSB probably seems similar at a glance but requires more work with balancing, new campaign modes, etc.

See, Scott? It's that easy, you don't have to put out
