True, if we're limiting it to modern systems (which is already a stretch with GC), but NES, SNES, and GB were pretty good. N64 is one of the few systems they ditched hardest for some reason.
A lot of late N64 titles were switched to be GCN exclusives such as Dojin The Giant, Cubivore and Kirby’s Air Ride. That probably had something to do with it. Cubivore was a very obvious N64 title.

Animal Crossing also skipped a generation for the US.

NES Remix games
Pushmo World
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Yoshi's Woolly World
Zelda WW/TP
Pushmo likely won’t come back because it was a downloadable title. They may as well just make a new game for that price. NES Remix is within the same boat (it did go physical), but I think the 80s nostalgia era was slipping with U, and is basically dead now. Yoshi got Crafted World on Switch, so Woolly World would just be competition. Then Zelda remakes are just remakes.

The only odd omission is X, but Xenoblade is not a huge seller.

The big one I would be curious about is Nintendo Land. That game could receive a sequel at some point if Nintendo truly is going through the back catalogue. Would be a great party title for Switch 2.

As an early 3D system, N64 was supposedly an absolute beast to develop for and the homebrew and hacks that have been made in subsequent years show that Nintendo wasn't even utilizing its full horsepower. People making good looking shit for it today have had nearly 30 years to figure it out, but if I were a betting man, I'd say Nintendo ditched the N64 so hard because even by 2001, they were struggling to figure out an efficient way to program shit for it. That's why you used to see shit getting delayed fucking constantly on N64. Gamecube was supposedly much easier. There's a reason they held onto that architecture for Wii & WiiU.

The N64DD became a failure when it hit its homeland in Japan. This explains why Animal Crossing was delayed in the west for a GC release, and N6DD's own title Doshin the Giant was released as a GC title in the west two years after its initial Japanese release
Animal Crossing was not a DD game. AC also wasn't assured a western release at all. I think they left it up in the air at first though obviously we did eventually get it.

Like "fuck, shit, bitch" fluff or the ESG/BlackRock kind of fluff?
The translators are (very) often randomly adding phrases and words that punch up dialogue with absolutely no regard for how it looks in context or that it aligns with the personalities of characters. But it's not quirky funny dialogue either, it's just adding more words for the sake of a higher word count or looking for obscure synonyms online to add this weird flowery language.

Alain: Josef, I'll be fine... You should go and lend strength to Mother.

It's examples like these that I'm glad I can play Japanese games in their original language, thanks to the Switch being region-free too, and none of this localizer's fanfiction stuff.

That's actually what I meant to type. My bad

Pocket Card Jockey got a remaster yesterday.

I’m surprised they never followed that up with an SNES Remix. I remember playing the first NES Remix all day when it was shadow-dropped… good times.

I can definitely understand the need for a bit of flavor to add personality but most of these modern localizers have become very careless in regards to how much they add to a detriment.

Chrono Cross had a script programmed in to have the various 40 characters and such to be able to talk in accents which also helped add character to your would be party members who barely got much screen time relative to the story.

And stuff like that and other Square Games like Final Fantasy VI and Xenogears had mainly and mostly only one guy going through all the Japanese Text to translate. And that is before you had the Western CRPG alternative dailogue options really take hold. The closest to that is maybe the Private Actions of Star Ocean 2 as the Skits for Tales of Games to a lesser extent.

Nintendo still has a number of wii u games to port, that could work well on the switch
NES Remix games
Pushmo World
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Yoshi's Woolly World
Zelda WW/TP

Also expect a cross gen period of games to be a thing until least 2026. Switch has a 140 million user base, 3DS and DS the supported for a good while after the successors were out, don't see them changing that this time. Do wonder if Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, is a sign of more 3DS ports to come, would be a way to support the Switch for longer when the Switch 2 is out, games that don't need the extra power.
Honestly it is mainly the Xenoblade Fandom pushing for a port for X but I would love added content and a continent to Mira as well as the older Customize Features for character creation be brought back.

These games were really good on the DS. Pushmo, Crashmo and Stretchmo were all a bunch of fun. Along those lines are the BoxBoy games, too. But I think BoxBoy kept getting more games.

I am expecting Inazuma Eleven Victory Road (the very autistic soccer RPG that I am obsessed with) to start getting some air time with Nintendo's official marketing channels. The online beta starts in just a couple of weeks and after that we're looking at prepping for launch. I think Inazuma Eleven Victory Road is going to be big, at least it should be. Realistically it'll probably do about as well as the other Inazuma Eleven games have done. But with a good marketing push I think it could be a hit. I'm just waiting for it to start appearing in the official releases.

Anyway it's a really good franchise that capitalizes on a lot of what Pokemon have neglected to do for generations. And with Palworld making a bunch of sleepy gamers realize that the Pokemon franchise has been crap for 20 years, now is the time. Also Captain Tsubasa was totally lame.

Check out my stupid thread if you're unsure or want to know more about this soccer JRPG that is more Pokemon than Pokemon. I give an extremely detailed explanation of the game, its systems and the general concept. Beta starts next month! Be there!!

It was such a disaster in Japan. Console sales were bad but game sales were worse, system was propped in in a big way by pokemon spinoffs of all things.

N64DD was supposed to save it and was an even bigger disaster.

You ever wonder why Sega was so keen to jump to Saturn? The Genesis/MD barely sold at all in Japan. Execs there in the 90s lived in a total bubble, international sales matter but not the same as domestic.

Ironically GC did even worse in Japan.

I think they ditched N64 as soon as possible because cart prices were killing sales and profits. Add in what they thought were bad total system sales (remember, they were only comparing against NES and SNES) and really they just wanted to go forwards to the surely bright future that Gamecube was offering them.

D00D!!! SNAKE RATTLE AND ROLL!!!

.... seriously though, that was a random choice. i thought I was the only person that knew about that game. I'm convinced Nintendo is just using a Bingo Cage to select these retro titles.

I’m surprised they never followed that up with an SNES Remix.
If they ever make it, and it has F-Zero as one of the titles... Day 1 Buy, no question.

Ever since F-Zero 99, I've got F-Zero fever and it hasn't gone away

Those would be great choices, maybe they could tweak the brightness on WWHD a bit (and add the cut content please).

Gamecube NSO is not possible, Nintendo has been very clear in my opinion that they think Gamecube games are of the "modern era" and can be sold at full price individually as remasters. You won't get that for "free."
I think that's true for their bigger games, but I can't see them trying to sell every game they published as a remaster. For example, I don't see them remastering each Mario Party to sell individually (or even as a collection) when they can sell a new one instead and also use those as NSO fodder.

They'd probably still put some staple games there too, like Mario Sunshine as they did with SM64 despite remastering that.

Similarly, I think DS games may come in some way too, they came for Wii U but that was a much easier port job considering they sorta shared gimmicks.

A lot of late N64 titles were switched to be GCN exclusives such as Dojin The Giant, Cubivore and Kirby’s Air Ride. That probably had something to do with it. Cubivore was a very obvious N64 title.

I remember Fire Emblem 64 was a thing in development at one point too, maybe there were more games switched to GC than we know of. 3rd parties seemed to do that a lot as well, Resident Evil 0 and Star Fox Adventures come to mind. I guess that's why N64 had such a tiny library.

I’m surprised they never followed that up with an SNES Remix.
Since I am not much of a NES guy I was hoping they'd do SNES Remix next too, and though I know they wouldn't bother with such a concept, N64 Remix would be even more awesome.

They did this with GC too. Super Paper Mario and Barrel Blast were both GC titles moved to Wii in addition to Twilight Princess, and probably also Prime 3. Not sure if Wii had any flips given the barren lineup of U.

Technically Kirby's Return to Dreamland was another GC title, but that is a whole development hell narrative.

But I think BoxBoy kept getting more games.
Hal kept the series going into the Switch with Boxboy + Boxgirl.
