you're charging 60 bucks for a smaller RPG when the high ends of the genre are very elaborate games.

the treehouse team got filtered by the first EMMI area. Once you get past that the game just assumes you're ready for anything and takes the gloves off.

Honestly, this sounds a lot like Samus Returns from what I recall. Enemies dealt huge amounts of damage through that whole game, which I believe was done to necessitate using the counter feature. Isn't that returning in Dread?

the Samus Returns counter feels like a game mechanic from a tech demo. the Dread counter actually feels like it's a well-balanced part of the game. the timing on it varies depending on the enemy from anywhere between 5-10 frames for a bigger enemy for down to about 2 or 3 for shit like the EMMIs. in order to justify the game being way harder as a result of the inclusion of more in-depth combat mechanics, they also had to ramp up the skill ceiling.

Yeah and there's also Divinity Original Sin 2, BG3, Witcher 3, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Demon's Souls Remake, Monster Hunter World, etc.

If you're charging max price the quality is going to have to be there, it's why Nintendo fucked Star Fox hard by tying gay bullshit to it in every installment since 64. They feel the railshooter gameplay can't carry a $60 game by itself. Metroid may suffer a similar fate because current reactions seem a bit mixed to the game, it's why Prime was a FPS.

I'd put the fact reactions are mixed more at the fact that game journos suck ass at actual games let alone hard ones more than the game being bad tbqh

I'll see in a few days though I guess.

If people are already going "JUST WAIT FOR PRIME 4!" it may be that even the blue puppet is displeased.

I thought 70 bucks was the MSRP for games now, even reaching 80 euros in the EU (for certain PS5 games, which is the current equivalent of 92 dollars).
Not to mention the whole deal with DLCs.
Metroid has a limited edition that you can throw even more money at as well as amiibos, it's still being priced the same as anything on PS5 which still get $60 games.

like the Special edition is $90 and the amiibos are $30. You're still getting AAA pricing. If metroid was around $30 to $40 it would probably be a bit more in line. The 3DS game was around that price.

Trying it out on Yuzu and it runs like a dream. Only issue I have is that what I guess are movie files don't play. I thought intro was just some text on a black screen lmao.

Metroid Dread is going to be fine. Metroid is one of the few series where I haven't played a bad main game so I'm not worried.

I don't expect modern gamers to like it at all, but what's fucking new?

It's going to cause tendies to freak out even further. a 2D old game being sold for a million dollars on top of Disney buying the last slot to Smash brothers. This is the beginning of the end, the turning point, Final Destination Fox Only IRL except items are allowed.

The regular game is $60. Try again.

The whole point is, is that they're still pricing towards AAA pricing and many people don't consider 2d games AAA.

If you honestly think Dread's lackluster sales or reviews are going to be due to Sony and Xbox fags not thinking it's "true AAA", I really don't know what to tell you. Nintendo hasn't been catering to the majority of people who consider themselves "gamers" for damn near two decades, most of them wouldn't even consider most Nintendo games to be AAA at this point. They were never going to buy Dread.

Hell, the people Nintendo do cater to are not even going to buy Dread for the most part. At this point, the only people who buy Metroid games are the few Metroid fans that are left, as seen with Samus Returns sales peaking at like half a million worldwide.

I'm feel like this has been said already, but Metroid is basically at the level of F-Zero at this point and I'm pretty sure the only reason Nintendo still even makes Metroid games once every 10 years or so is out of some respect to Gunpei Yokoi and because they don't really have any other game that fills the niche to my knowledge. I'd be happy to be wrong on this and Dread sells gangbusters cause I love Metroid, but the numbers are the numbers. The Prime games weren't even super big sellers compared to the other Nintendo properties.

Honestly my whole feeling is, is that they're not really pushing Metroid properly so it would sell and they're kind of setting it up for failure.

I really think making it a budget priced title would probably be better so people would be less critical of it if the price matched. Like every 2D RPG nowadays is usually around 30-40 bucks, like Astria Ascending is pricing itself at that price as is Cristales. Games like Trials of Mana which was in itself a 3d revival also initially priced itself cheaper and that was so square could build up the mana series again.

This is like how people complained about Synphony being a 2d game when 3d games were what was in, just like it, metroid clearly has a bigger budget than most games of its type

I don't think the budget could be all that much different from something like Ori.
