Goa announces intent to transfer a suppressor to 2 individuals tonight at 12:01 (one notably being B. Herrera ) without Registering it. Which would make it the first legal transfer of a suppressor without registering with the NFA since 1934.

They still have to follow the GCA, which I believe is just the standard background check?

My guess is the ATF will not appeal (IMO they would have already done so) but will lag issuing guidance causing a massive shit storm. (IE, do suppressors still need NFA engravings/Makers marks?)

This ruling creates so many questions, and I've already ordered 20 solvent traps from ping ping so hopefully everything plays out.

In theory, tonight at 12:01, any non-felon in the US can join the GoA and have half the NFA no longer apply to you. State laws still do apply and make the situation even more confusing.

As a GoA member you will be able to print or manufacture any suppressor with 0 paperwork.
You will also be able to convert an AR pistol to a SBR, or any other rifle or shotgun into a SBR or SBS

I am highly considering buying a pistol upper tomorrow and putting it on my rifle. I don't really need it, but I want to contribute to the wave of NFA items that will be allowed under this ruling.

If this practice becomes widespread, it only emboldens gun rights. If millions of NFA restricted items are created legally by GoA members, or sold by Silencer Shop or PSA, then the NFA will effectively be dead.

Specifically Alaska, Georgia, Ohio, Washington, Oregon, explicitly requires NFA federal registration to possess NFA items.

A handful of states have vague language that simply says that you can possess them as long as you are complying with federal law.

How exactly does that transfer work since Brandon is a Manufacuring SOT, doesn't that mean he's already exempt from NFA paperwork?
Transfers between SOT still require paperwork AFAIK.

I plugged some data into Kimi about a Hypothetical "5.56 Long" using an aerodynamically improved 62gr .224 EPR style projectile (Kimi Assigned it a 0.180 BC), with a 2.35in OAL loaded at 82k PSI using Federal Peak Alloy being fired from 14.5in barrel and the numbers were as follows compared to a 108gr 0.270 BC 6MM arc from 16"

5.56L MV:3400 (this was concluded by scaling M855A1 Performance to 82k PSI)
6 ARC MV: 2750

Velocity Retention

  • At 500yd: 5.56 Long = 2,272 fps | 6mm ARC = 2,133 fps
  • At 800yd: 5.56 Long = 1,846 fps | 6mm ARC = 1,862 fps ← crossover
  • At 1000yd: 5.56 Long = 1,634 fps | 6mm ARC = 1,713 fps
Energy Retention

  • At 500yd: 5.56 Long = 711 ft-lb | 6mm ARC = 1,092 ft-lb (+54%)
  • At 800yd: 5.56 Long = 469 ft-lb | 6mm ARC = 832 ft-lb (+77%)

Drop

Drop (from 100yd zero)

  • At 500yd: 5.56 Long = -55.7" (-10.6 MOA) | 6mm ARC = -70.0" (-13.4 MOA)
  • At 800yd: 5.56 Long = -163.9" (-19.6 MOA) | 6mm ARC = -198.8" (-23.7 MOA)

Wind Drift (10 mph crosswind)

  • At 500yd: 5.56 Long = 18.5" (3.5 MOA) | 6mm ARC = 13.6" (2.6 MOA)
  • At 800yd: 5.56 Long = 49.6" (5.9 MOA) | 6mm ARC = 35.6" (4.3 MOA)

| Cartridge | Free Recoil (7.5 lb) | Felt Recoil (est.) |
| ---------------------- | -------------------- | ------------------ |
| .22 LR | ~0.2 ft-lb | Negligible |
| **5.56 NATO (M855A1)** | **4.3 ft-lb** | **Light** |
| **5.56 Long EPR** | **5.7 ft-lb** | **Light-Moderate** |
| 7.62×39mm | ~7.5 ft-lb | Moderate |
| **6mm ARC** | **7.8 ft-lb** | **Moderate** |
| .308 Winchester | ~15–18 ft-lb | Stout |
| 6.8×51 (NGSW) | ~18–22 ft-lb | Heavy |

Basically you get an improved 5.56 round for little to no change in ammo weight, but you have to get new mags and lowers, with the possible ability to use "normal" 5.56 as well. It's only 0.10in added to OAL AUG mags apparently accept rounds up to 2.37in. And this is just on a 2.35 OAL, the benefits would only improve on a 2.40 or 2.50

This whole countdown thingy is making me feel funny. I know instinctually Nothing Ever Happens, but we're kinda getting down to the wire here, and this Admin's DOJ has shown they'll intervene in favor of NFA stuff before. There are rumors of a veritable civil war going on in the DOJ over whether or not to appeal this decision, but usually if they were gonna do it they probably would have done it by now, but they obviously haven't. I don't even know anymore. We're a little over 8 hours away from the deadline. The DOJ has until 11:59:59 to electronically send that appeal notice so until they clock strikes midnight without that happening the status quo remains in place.

I think the classic DOJ would have done it, I also think in the long run if they did it, it would be better for us in the long run, as we would probably get a favorable SC ruling...

But this would be the first time the SC really has to look at the NFA post bruen. and it's really tough to justify their restriction when multiple government agencies have been buying them as safety devices AND they've gotten much more popular. (and the 0$ stamp, because this is a "tax lawsuit")

the "smart" anti gun move here is to probably hunker down and try to delay any future case so only those enjoined in the lawsuit can do what it allows them to. There is a huge risk to moving the case up from the anti gun side and the pro gun side too.

"you still believe in nothing happening? because with 8 hours to go it's marginal."

I called a bunch of local gun stores around me and absolutely none of them have any clue or information to provide about the injunction. They either have no clue what’s going to happen, or they want to wait until it takes effect tonight to give out information. This is going to be a complete shitshow

Even if it becomes legal to purchase suppressors without NFA registration under this ruling taking effect, there is no point if none of the FFL’s near you would be willing to do the transfer

They want ambiguity so they can find some technicality and go ahead and prosecute someone for it defying the ruling. They may not be as aggressive as they would be in a non-Trump administration but they're still not going to be happy about having to cede power. My guess is they'll look for the kind of people who immediately go for this and then see if they can find some technicality they violated and prosecute it, trying to create the impression that suppressors are still illegal/covered by NFA/regulated.

Hypothetically, if the NFA stuff cools off and SBRs become legal, what would you guys recommend for a PCC SBR? Something I could throw in a backpack in the event of zombies or Canadians. I'm looking at either a Scorpion or a Kuna. Probably add a silencer in the future, but I want to figure out the gun first.

I'm holding out for the SC to take up the AWB then it's a Beretta CX4 storm chopped down and suppressed. I don't care that it isn't the min max best gun out there or whatever I just want to larp Battlestar Galactica

The very existence of the ATF is unconstitutional and anyone who disagrees is the exact type of traitor due to which the Founding Fathers drafted the Second Amendment.

This seems to be creating a magic window in time where unregistered suppressors will be legal. That means every illegal silencer in existence will have been purchased or produced in this magic window of time. Good luck proving otherwise.

GOA's web site is barely hanging on right now

So it's 6 PM EST, was there a challenge filed? I'm am retard, so I have no idea where to even check.

Frankly, the very concept of a registered suppressor should be what's illegal.

For fun I've been checking state laws and may have found the best. In 2023 Mississippi passed a law similar to Texas for homemade suppressors where if you make it entirely in the state and it never crosses state lines you're good... so long as it says "MADE IN MISSISSIPPI" somewhere on it.

This bill, the Mississippi Suppressor Freedom Act, enacts several key provisions. It defines a "firearm suppressor" as a device designed to muffle the report of a firearm, and states that a suppressor manufactured entirely within Mississippi is not subject to federal regulation under the authority of Congress to regulate interstate commerce. The bill requires such suppressors to be marked "Made in Mississippi" and allows a Mississippi resident to seek a declaratory judgment that the act is consistent with the U.S. Constitution. Importantly, it prohibits state or local governments from enforcing any federal law or regulation that imposes restrictions on suppressors beyond what exists under Mississippi law, and provides a remedy for violations through a mandamus action. The bill also repeals a state law that criminalized the manufacture of suppressors without federal authorization.

The best place to keep watch would probably be the GOA X Feed, because they almost certainly have an intern constantly hitting F5 on a virtual docket or caselog thingy to see if DOJ files an appeal/response

I just checked and at the time of writing no appeal has been filed, Little more than 5 hours until midnight. DOJ has until 11:59:59 to get an electronically timestamped document submitted
