I remember being really interested in Sakura Wars when I was younger, hoping that we'd someday get one in English. Then Sakura Wars V: So Long My Love got released in English on the PS2 and it fucking sucked.
 
I hope the rumors of another go at a Sakura Wars reboot are true. If only because the way the last game handled the old casts was lame and maybe someone with a better vision could do something better.

That being said: Shin Sakura Wars was alright. Cool visuals, nice mecha designs, the combat was fun (If a bit simplistic snd easy) and it was nice to come back to the setting one last time. Shame it didn't do as hot as Sega was hoping it would, but when word got out that "Sakura and everyone else are trapped in Hell" I knew most of the fanbase wouldn't be pleased.
 
By the way, why did they change two characters, Sagitta and Rika's names in the US release? From Sagitta to Cheiron and Rika to Rosita what is up with that?

No clue. It was NISA who released it instead of Sega. And they seem to still have a habit of changing names and shit in localizations on occasion.
 
To be honest, I am not looking forward to a reboot and hoping it isn't true, just remaster all the previous games. Here's a few more songs from Sakura Taisen V

There's something special about a character just singing the anime opening, that just makes the song 10x better. My favorite being the opening of GGG with Guy VA and Trust you forever with Domon and Sai Saichi VA. Them yelling the attacks mid song is always hype

I recall Super Atragon was nice enough, got a laserdisc of it when the format died and you could buy them for like, a buck each at Saturday Matinee
 
Since I'm not really a gamer, does anyone have any Lets Play/playthrough reccomendations for Sakura Wars? I've seen the 2000 TV series and 2 OVAs, so I need to at least watch a playthrough of the games now.

I don't watch LPs or else I'd give recommendations. I'd just give the PS2 versions of the games ago. They emulate well enough. Only V and the OG are in English though.
 
Grendizer U is coming out July 5th. Some things to note:
  • Grendizer's spazer has its own launch sequence -- very cool!
  • Duke wears a shirt with a clothing window -- possible under-the-radar gay bait?
  • Mazinger has red lines under its eyes -- could it become Mazinkaiser?
  • There are land and underwater spazers that can combine with Grendizer.
  • Aqua Grendizer's weapon teleports, much like Great Exkaiser's sword.
  • Remember the "promise to kill" from the first trailer? It appears that Duke will indeed go evil, which will result in plenty of melodrama.

Yeah, seems like Dizer Full Power is some kinda berserker mode here. Fukuda does love a berserker. Glad we got a good look at the other Spazers too. They probably won't do Kaiser. I expect Z to get rekt and then Kouji to swap to the Double Spazer. I'd be shocked if Z stuck around.

I fully expect plenty of yaoibait between Duke and Kouji though. With how influential the original series was for early fujoshi, there's no way this ond won't have some of that energy, even with Saudi money backing.
 
Im aware that grendizer exists but have never seen it, ill give it a shot since it looks interesting enough plus i need some super robot action in my life
 
Did someone read the french Grendizer comic sequel? It was good, I remember Koji ending up with Hikaru in the end and Mazinger Z fans being pissed.

Well, that was a better ending than gosaku ota grendizer manga with going full nuclear war with grendizer and rhaga destroying all the world and only some people surviving

I liked Ota Grendizer because it's basically Baldios in manga format.
