I am always amazed at how many people don't notice this

did that second Zoids Wild (the generic anime one, not the batshit pokeyman one with the amazing character designs) ever get fully translated?

also lol three whole pages before the NOT GUNDAM thread went gundam
Hasbro really fucked the fans over with the release. The model kits are actually really good but they only put out eight of them compared to Takara Tomy. . They really dropped the ball with that one. Also, the anime is pretty good. There's actually some brutal scenes in there and a character death, The Zoids in there are meant to be like wild Zoids from the lore. Zoids did not evolve to have cockpits. They were basically naturally occurring robot animals, growing from Zoid cores. I don't really agree with the flack that the Anime gets. But the folliw up anime, Wild Zero is definitely good too. And no, there is no dub for the Wild Zero Anime. But stay away from the Hasbro dub of Wild. The censorship is also Wild… No pun intended. Sorry for the long post but hey, mecha fans have to stick together lol

I think that can be said about a lot of things in Eva. I do genuinely like the show and Anno seems like a cool dude. But Evafags are quick to call everything an Eva ripoff without realizing that Eva itself is hardly a bastion of originality.

Then again a lot of those people are the "Umm, actually Evangelion is the only hood mecha show since its about the characters instead of being a toy commercial" types. So, they're easy to disregard.

I dunno if Zoids Wild Zero or Zoids Wild Senki got English subs. I think that whole new style of Zoids sorta killed any interest.
Those Zoids are based on wild Zoids from the original lore. They never had cockpits originally. Those were all human made. I really do recommend you look into it because some of it, it gets pretty fucked up. Humans removing the Zoid cores from the wild Zoids and putting them into human produced bodies… That's barbaric if you think about it. But the Zoids Wild Anime made them look a little bit more modern. It could be a little bit after humans started messing around with their bodies.

I've only glanced at various Zoids.
iirc the UK comics are an interesting curiosity, VERY detailed art and an early Grant Morrison writing gig

I've seen that old manual or whatever, so I get what you're talking about. But the lack of cockpits and the obvious aim at a younger demo didn't do Zoids any favors with Wild. Wild Zero and Senki seem like course corrections.

I wish they'd do more stuff like the first three Zoids series or Genesis. Fuzors was kind of lame too.

In the age of streaming, Hasbro could have probably kept it uncut and kept the Japanese version in tact as a language option for Netflix. Too late now. Their Zoids Wild dub is gone and never returning. I just hope Takara learned from this fuck up and end up doing the US distribution themselves next time.

It's weird what Japanese companies have grasped the international streaming market and which ones haven't. Tsuburaya Productions get it, Bandai Namco get it, yet Takara doesn't. There's no reason all the Japanese Transformers series aren't on Tubi with all the rest. Same with making Zoids readily available to normies.

Toei is another weird company for me too. They make so much of their anime output available but are legitmately hurting themselves by not making Kamen Rider more available. I get why they can't do simulcasts for Sentai, but not Rider.

The dubs for Chaotic Century and New Century Zero were higher quality than the ZW dub and they were not afraid to make the CC dub dark. Too bad that we will never see the Zoids Genesis dub. I saw a tweet by one of the voice actors saying it was completed. Apparently parts of Asia got a toned down version of the Viz dub of Genesis. Any idea if someone has that somewhere? It has been a mystery for years.

Had a buddy who was obsessed with Gundam back in the day, and he knew enough weird obscure shit to make me believe it. He would always go on rants about how badly Turn-A Gundam sucked, something about a moustache on a robot.

He has negative levels of taste. I know not everyone likes the mustache Gundam, but it's miles better than the overdesigned mobile suits that have been in every 21st century Gundam show. It actually did something new for once rather than rehash 0079's designs -- this is also why I like Victory's mobile suits so much.

Had no clue there was a thread for general mecha, only one I've seen was the Gundam one. Might as well post here since its one of the few animu things I like.

I've only recently gotten into the genre about a year ago, it has some of the coolest most batshit insane action I've seen in any media. I'm much more into super robots than I am into real robots. Mazinkaiser SKL, All Getter OVAs (Shin vs Neo, Armageddon and New Getter) and Dai-Guard (pretty obscure super robot spoof with salary man as the pilot) are among my favorites, but the others I've watched throughout the year were also pretty good too.

The others I've watched so far are:
Getter Robo Arc (very divided on it, but i loved the remixed OVA soundtracks and callbacks it had)
Shin Mazinger (the plot is a big ass mess, but the OP, action and mazinger itself is badass as hell)
Mazinkaiser/Mazinkaiser Vs The Great General of Darkness
Kotetsushin Jeeg
The Big O (season 1 is perfection, i dont like season 2 and how it tried to be "meta", it ruined the immersion for me)
Mazinger Z: Infinity
Megas XLR (i know this isnt a mecha anime, but still falls into the genre)
Linebarrels of Iron (i hear the manga is better, but i did really like the mecha action and linebarrel's design but i can really see the glaring issues it has)

I was gonna check out Brave Bang Bravern! but the fag undertones and gay shit, even if its played for laughs really turned me off; the only other one I'm waiting to watch is Grendizer U, which can either be a big ass mess or really good. I have consider watching some real robot, but just can't find one I vibe with.

Dai-Guard is super underrated mecha. Honestly is what i would think of, if we ever get mechs irl. You study for piloting it and you get payed a salary(minus collateral) Most of all, the design although simple, it is just eye catching enough and most importantly the weapons aint flashy, they actually serve a purpose instead of flashy-delete everything kind of weapon. Also the OP theme song is fire.

Gun x Sword is probably the last completely new mecha series that I've liked. Even the English dub was pretty good.
Sorry for the double post.

Gun X Sword is pretty cool, El Dora V is a nod to super robots of the past and the episode where they introduce it made me feel things. Also the ending, is just right to the point, no bullshit, he came, he saw and he conquered.

Mazinger Z: Infinity
Infinity was nice to catch in a theater but I haven't bothered with it since.
the weird redesigned worked a lot better in motion on a big screen then they did as static images

if you're not allergic to old cartoons you might want to try the Toei tv anime, it holds up surprisingly well as the weekly robot adventures of Kouji and the gang

I always figured Patlabor would be the closest we'd get to reality if we had mechs irl, where they're essentially just glorified forklifts.

been a bit longer than "in Ten Years... "
but we're getting there

Megas XLR (i know this isnt a mecha anime, but still falls into the genre)
While it is American, Megas XLR is still classed as a mecha anime due to it being one extended Mega sized spoof-ish love letter to the genre.

Well we are pretty close to the "mechs" in Oshii's DALLOS OVAs and those are little more than construction vehicles with quasi-arms attached to them.
And technically the power armor in Metal Skin Panic: MADOX-01 have been almost buildable since the late 80ies. Just due to the near insane amount of detailing put into the internals of the Madox-01 armor.

Great taste. All those Dynamic Pro mecha OVAs are fun. You should check out some of the original 70s animation these shows are based on. Getter Robo G and Great Mazinger are especially fun. But all the Toei/Dynamic co-productions are better than people expect. Nagahama's Romance trilogy is wonderful too.

Pumped for Grendizer U. With Fukuda and Okouchi at the helm, it's guaranteed to at least be... Interesting. Nice to see a new Dynamic thing with some interesting staff choices. As much as I love Jun Kawagoe (Directed all the Getter OVAs, Arc, Kaiser SKL and a bunch of other Dynamic stuff) I'm happy they gambled on some weird staff. It's gonna be hilarious when it leans hard into Grendizer's BL roots and the Saudis declare a fatwa on Fukuda and Okouchi.

Other random fun super robot shows:
God Gravion
GaoGaiGar
J-Decker
Might Gaine
Super Robot Wars OG The Inspector
The J9 trilogy (Bryger, Baxinger and Sasuraiger)
Daitarn 3
Zambot 3
