Obari's directorial works are uneven as he had been good but not great in the 80ies to mid 90ies. Then off and on going from good to shit starting in the late 90ies to present day.
For sure. I like most of what I've seen by him. But, most people I see online shit on them. Like, Gravion/Gravion Zwei and SRW OG: The Inspector. Not perfect shows, but the action scenes are nice and there's a lot of style and charm. Even if Gravion is a lol Gonzo show as far as QUALITY goes at times.
Roujin Z is a light hearted whimsical exploration of the potential future of Japan trying to adapt to dealing with an aging population demographic as told through the medium of GIANT ROBOT FIGHTING that welcomes aficionados of all associated genres.

Also Macross Frontier doesn't entirely suck provided you've enjoyed the earlier shows.

Also also let me know if you have a working torrent for Patlabor for the love of God.

Also also also if you like tsundere high school hijinks and giant fighting robots and hate Russia check out Full Metal Panic.
Frontier was a great time. Especially when it was airing. I feel like the 2000s had a lot of fun mecha shows like Frontier. It's a shame Delta was kind of eh on pretty much all fronts and wasn't as good of a follow up. But, that second Delta movie was alright enough.

Pretty much can't go wrong with Patlabor. Except maybe a couple of the movies. Patlabor 2 is a really great political thriller, but kind of a lame Patlabor movie. And WXIII is more about those two cops FEATURING A SPECIAL APPEARANCE BY TOKYO MPD SPECIAL VEHICLES DIVISION 2!! That being said, the TV series and New Files are so great.

FMP is so great. I hope the new novels get a translation going soon. They seem really nice. Sousuke and Kaname's chuuni daughter seems adorable.

Especially when it was airing.
watching Frontier with the onlines live as it was airing in Japan via shady streaming was soooooooooo much fun
like near the end when that one character starts talking to the other about feelings and love and stuff and we're hooting and hollering all OH FUUUUUUCK THEY TALKING FEELINGS AND SHIT SOMEBODY GONNA DIE!!!!

Grendizer U is coming out in July. Glad to finally have a date. Based on the staff, the show is going to either be really fun or a total shitshow. It will be entertaining either way.
I'm actually pretty excited for it. Some of the mecha (like the water one) look pretty bland, but the Vegan diamond spaceship and Grendizer himself are pretty cool. The walking flying saucer is stuck between ingeniously cool and hilariously ridiculous like the Big Zam or whatever. I'm hoping the presence of several Grendizer-like mecha means that this show will be like Dendoh in some way. Also, is Grendizer's rainbow chest attack a reference to Magnerobo Ga-Keen's similar rainbow attack?

Grendizer came like a year before Gakeen, so I don't think so. The rainbow beam (Hanjuuryoku Storm) is just one of Grendizer's old attacks. Hopefully they still do that shot where Duke's pilot seat zigzags from the Spazer's cockpit to Grendizer's. But, I do agree. I love how the Saucer Beasts have been interpreted here. Really cool and weird shapes that still have that flying saucer motif. Not sure if I'm feeling the evil not-Grendizers. But, it's Fukuda. So, I'm sure he's just applying that Bandai logic of "More Gundams equals more better" to Grendizer.

Baan Gaan is getting a web novel! Let's hope this gets a manga like GGG vs Betterman and that it will be translated into English. Since it's a web novel, though (will any of it be paywalled before physical volumes are released?), perhaps MTL may suffice if nobody picks it up.

Also Sworgrader is getting spicy (this is Ch 5):

Oh god i almost clicked and spoiled myself. Havent sat down to read it cause ive been busy so i cant sit down comfortably and enjoy it. Atleast answer me this: for a fan of the brave series, is it worth it?

Making me feel nostalgic for Big O.

As much as I love the fact super robot wars Z gave it an actual ending I wish it was patched for English

Just rewatched SSSS Gridman and finally watched SSSS Dynazenon. Not the best mecha series's out there, but they're definitely fun. Have a soft spot for the series as I grew up watching Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad as a kid.

Armor Hunter Mellowlink was good. He's a bit of a gary stu but it was nice to see an anime where its "other military units that don't get instantly vaporized vs mecha."

I don't know why mecha always seems to lean towards either extremes.

On one end you have Gundam where the MC DONUTSTEEL is always fucking invincible and couldn't die even if they wanted to and drove their gundam into the sun. With the exception being Barbatos needing to be hosed with bullets and literally ripped to pieces and turned into a war trophy before the thing would stop attacking. On the other you have VOTOMS where they are basically metal coffins that have piss poor armor plating and the pilots die in 2-3 shots if they aren't named "Chirico". There doesn't seem to be anything in between outside of melee combat.

Hey, Heero tried to kill himself multiple times but he found out that god is a comedian.

Use 3D CG models, which will allow one to animate movements or actions more dynamically or fluidly than the traditional 2D hand-drawn animation...
Yet, it's deliberately animated in 20FPS...

I despise these sub-human scum who just follow trends from other IPs in the same or other domains just because it's popular.
The original intros are much better. In fact I'll be even more of a no-fun-allowed jackass and say the PS1 intro tried and got better stuff going than this promo.

Anyways, I really hope this isn't hinting at any remake of some sort.

Im still annoyed at the fact that Super Robot Wars: The Inspectors cucked me in the end by showing me compatikaiser and make me think there was a sequel. Idk why bandai or whoever holds that, hasnt made an anime of SRW following the events after Inspector.

SRW OG 3 is never coming out, no SRW anime ever again!
