If the gameplay mechanics are like the third game, it will be ruined.

An important aspect of Max Payne's combat in the first two games is that all of your weapons (minus a couple) are very inaccurate. This means that you need to use Max's superior agility to close the gap with enemies in order to dispatch them efficiently. This worked great in the first game until you get to the third act and get the Colt Commando, an assault rifle that's perfectly accurate, does high damage, and has abundant ammunition. The second game buffed other weapons to make them more useful, but the assault rifles are still king.

In the third game, every gun is perfectly accurate and kills with one or two headshots. Positioning and weapon selection literally don't matter; just hit shift and click on all the heads you see, then repeat. Also unlike the first two games, you can get bullet time in a shoot dodge even if your gauge is empty, so the only way to die is to fuck yourself over by failing to kill enemies fast enough and ending up flat on your ass while surrounded.

To clarify, I don't hate 3. It lets you go fast and kill loads of dudes in the blink of an eye, and that's cool in its own way. However, combat ends up being overly simple and repetitive, and wouldn't be a good fit at all for a remaster of the earlier titles.

TL;DR, stick to the enemy health and weapon accuracy of 1 and 2 and nerf assault rifles.

If Remedy is involved, they may either have it in EGS or the Rockstar Launcher. Sorry, PC players.
is that how I played control on steam...?

Did we play the same game? The Control I played had an actress given poor direction throughout and never once actually reacting to any of the weird shit that happened. She was an autistic robot who blankly spoke her lines because the actress wasn't given any context to her scenes so played it safe. And the lines themselves were so generic as to not give context on their own. She's a boring character in a story that is somehow exceptionally boring despite all the weird shit happening. Because every single weird thing in Control is something seen before in better games, movies and creepypasta.
since I didn't care about the actress I didn't really care how good or bad she was, I don't need my supposed vidya stand-in protag to constantly emote and react like a shitty youtube video or twitch streamer.
also "X has been better done somewhere else" applies to everything that is not X...

Could Remedy top this? A perfect ending. Still has power. And its age has only bettered it.

Remedy Entertainment Enters Agreement with Rockstar Games for New Max Payne 1&2 Project

Remedy Entertainment, the creators of Max Payne, are pleased to announce that they will remake the iconic Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne video games in a new development agreement with Rockstar Games.

The relationship between Remedy and Rockstar Games dates back to the original release of the critically acclaimed Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne games, developed by Remedy and published by Rockstar Games. Both games left an indelible mark in popular culture, lauded for their neo-noir atmosphere, groundbreaking storytelling and “bullet-time” gunplay.

“We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games “We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”

“Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same,” said Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala. “We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”

Under the development agreement signed today, Remedy will develop the games as a single title for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S using its proprietary Northlight game engine. The game’s development budget will be financed by Rockstar Games, the size of which will be in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production. Under the agreement, Remedy has a royalty opportunity after Rockstar Games has recouped its development, marketing, and other costs for distributing and publishing the game.

The project is currently in the concept development stage.

I’m surprised Max Payne needed a remaster to begin with. If they mess with Mona Sax’s character and get rid of the nuance surrounding losing your wife and child to criminals while not fully realizing that painkiller medication is supposed to be a bad thing, then what’s the point?

They could just make a Max Payne 4 if they wanted to go full insane. Though, I do hope Remedy does justice to this great, flawed hero of a character.

Not very long ago Remedy posted a video with the OG voice of Max Payne doing Max Payne for the 20th anniversary. Coincidence? Sam Lake dressed up in the old outfit and in another video showed how to do the Max Payne face.

My first thought on reading that was: wow, that’s a lot of money to remake a couple of games that weren’t that popular, and which are still available and playable today.

Looks like I'm sticking with the classic.

@Dom Cruise look at this shit. Maybe you should slow down the bitching about the women in gaming and bitch more about soyboy cucks.

I played the whole trilogy recently and I think the first two games are truly something else. You have no idea how fun videogames can be until you go back and play games from the early 2000s. The third game is a big mess.

I feel like games that came out when the decline in the industry was starting to become noticeable (2013-2016), have a lot of good buried within some of the bad. Max Payne 3 is a fine example of that. Most of the game sucks and most of the missions with Max's annoying spic sidekick are annoying, but those action movie moments near the end are pretty cool. They're like Uncharted without the gay because you actually control your character.
The levels also get better later in the game. Max raids a police station, and an airplane where you could go prone on the walkway escalators that are used by fat mutts. In all likelihood, the diverse millennial retards dumped their trash in the early game, and people who knew what they were doing came back for the ending. You can tell the game went through all sorts of drama (it was delayed for almost 2 years) just from how messy it is.

The reboot will suck. Current day Rockstar and Remedy are both occupied territory. There's no hope for Alan Wake 2 and there's no hope for a Max Payne remake. They wouldn't even have to make remakes and sequels if the company hadn't gone to shit. No one liked Control, because the shooting was worse than the first Max Payne game, and now they're forced to bring back old recognizable titles.

And that there's gonna be another Max Payne movie reboot, as if the 2008 Mark Wahlberg bullshit wasn't bad enough.

Mona Sax will be post op Ellie Page. She'll be the first Female-to-Male-to-Female tranny movie star!
It'll be like Legend of Chun-Li, Tomb Raider 2018 or Welcome to Racoon City, where the actresses playing the respective characters are less attractive in roles they play because this is Hollywood.

Things were already bad before Hollywood stepped in. Look at the second protagonist of Alan Wake 2.

The worst part is that her sidekick is a character whose likeness is based on Sam Lake (and he's voiced by him I think), but Remedy thought that this random black woman would be a better fit. Enjoy playing as her for half the game.

I mean everything has already died by 2015 onward. Hollywood included

It is absolutely amazing how Remedy puts James in so much stuff but refuse to have him be the lead.

I mean I am glad the dude still gets good work but I dont want to play as diversity hire woman, alan wake or some other lame brain. I want to play as max payne.

He's literally the only character/actor they've ever had I gave a dam about.
