I liked Watch Dogs 1 and 2.Already thinking about playing it this upcoming Christmas.
Alan wake was so overhyped back then, I remember playing the game and thinking "its that it?"You should play Alan Wake and Control if you haven't already man. Maybe even Quantum Break which I loved but wasn't universally praised. Remedy are the only developers where I look forward to their games now.
You know a female character its bad when theres hardly any porn of her being madeI wanted to enjoy Control, but the constant voice in my head going "they've nicked all this shit from SCP fan fiction" wouldn't stop. SCP in and out of itself isn't particularly original a lot of the time, but it was such a blatant parallel I couldn't work my way around it.
Similarly, the protagonist was kinda bland (even if the writers trying to tie Control into national woman's day with their PR stunts was incredibly cringeworthy) and inoffensive, but it couldn't make up its mind whether or not she was a socially stunted outcast that had been on the run her entire adult life, or a sharp talking quippy action heroine.
Was good to hear Max Paynes voice actor again, though. He's apparently not a fan of the medium, but still really puts the effort into his role.
The first one was even more disappointing than GTAV was, and the downgrade was too obvious even for ubisoftthere's watchdogs if you want a vigilante open world game (first one is pretty comfy too).
dunno, I don't really have expectations these days besides "this is prolly gonna suck". it didn't, so WD1 and AW where all right in my book (say what you want about remedy games, but they still put effort into their games). The first one was even more disappointing than GTAV was, and the downgrade was too obvious even for ubisoft

The 2 looks like a SJW fest, is it good at all?
She was perfectly acceptable, at no point did I dislike her.I liked Jesse, I thought she was well written and acted. That was helped by the great supporting cast too though.
I was disappointed that it wasn't open world, but reading the making of book they couldn't figure out how to make horror work in an open world and maybe that's just not a genre that works in open world.Alan wake was so overhyped back then, I remember playing the game and thinking "its that it?"
Didnt help that they left everything on a cliffhanger thinking part 2 was just around the corner because it was going to become this big successful franchise. The DLCs sucked, tho american nightmare was alright
It could have been so much worse though. You know a female character its bad when theres hardly any porn of her being made
I highly recommend you give it another try, it can take a while to get cooking. As for control I pirated it then dropped it, maybe I should try it again but whatevs
I'm still mad about that, I still remember seeing that Watch Dogs trailer in 2012, it had been 7 long years since we had seen the debut of next gen games and it was amazing... except the final game looked nothing like it.The first one was even more disappointing than GTAV was, and the downgrade was too obvious even for ubisoft

the problem is open world kills any urgency you built up, it goes right up in smoke (lel) if you get told OMG WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ASAP and then you just dick around doing minigames and other shit while the story conveniently waits for you.I was disappointed that it wasn't open world, but reading the making of book they couldn't figure out how to make horror work in an open world and maybe that's just not a genre that works in open world.
Except the game was barely scary, so I doubt it would have that much of a difference and a Twin Peaks esque town is a brilliant setting for an open world game.
fwiw it's very easy to mod that you can almost get back to that level (not that you really need it imho since you get used to it and the drab chicago atmosphere still comes across, with or without fancy graphical features).I'm still mad about that, I still remember seeing that Watch Dogs trailer in 2012, it had been 7 long years since we had seen the debut of next gen games and it was amazing... except the final game looked nothing like it.
I am so unhappy about 1313. Some of the early stuff looked great.Meanwhile the other next gen debut I first saw that year was Star Wars 1313 which never even came out at all...
She's modeled on the voice actress Courtney Hope who is in really good shape, maybe that doesn't look as good virtually, I dunno. I thought she was hot so different strokes and all that. But honestly, why couldn't she had a nicer body? It's stupid to me that "strong female character" translates to "flat chest and a flat ass"
Like I said, it's understandable why they went that route, one of the reasons being exactly what you mentioned, but it also would have been a lot of fun to explore a Twin Peaks esque town in an open world environment.the problem is open world kills any urgency you built up, it goes right up in smoke (lel) if you get told OMG WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ASAP and then you just dick around doing minigames and other shit while the story conveniently waits for you.
you probably could do it in a more non-linear fashion depending on the story (mystery and finding clues etc would probably work fine), but for something like AW... dunno.
besides, imo it was good enough as it was, how much would an open world have added (and removed)?
It was the last time something really interesting was being done with Star Wars as an ip before Disney ruined it.I am so unhappy about 1313. Some of the early stuff looked great.
I have a tiny bit of hope in this project with how Remedy's involved, but it's overshadowed by The GTA Trilogy Remaster disaster.Remedy and Rockstar are going to be remaking Max Payne 1 and 2

Remedy Entertainment Enters Agreement with Rockstar Games for New Max Payne 1&2 Project
Remedy Entertainment, the creators of Max Payne, are pleased to announce that they will remake the iconic Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne video games in a new development agreement with Rockstar Games.
The relationship between Remedy and Rockstar Games dates back to the original release of the critically acclaimed Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne games, developed by Remedy and published by Rockstar Games. Both games left an indelible mark in popular culture, lauded for their neo-noir atmosphere, groundbreaking storytelling and “bullet-time” gunplay.
“We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games “We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”
“Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same,” said Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala. “We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”
Under the development agreement signed today, Remedy will develop the games as a single title for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S using its proprietary Northlight game engine. The game’s development budget will be financed by Rockstar Games, the size of which will be in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production. Under the agreement, Remedy has a royalty opportunity after Rockstar Games has recouped its development, marketing, and other costs for distributing and publishing the game.
The project is currently in the concept development stage.
Gotta remember, this is REMEDY doing this, not Rockstar. Rockstar is funding it, Remedy are the ones doing the heavy lifting here. I think our chances of this being good are much higher.I have a tiny bit of hope in this project with how Remedy's involved, but it's overshadowed by The GTA Trilogy Remaster disaster.
If it plays like Max Payne 3 with the tone, charm, and weapon inventory system of 1 and 2 (or even inventory system of 3) I'll be happy, but based on Rockstar's recent track record it'll probably be shit.
They're better, but Rockstar doesn't even give a shit about the classic GTAs, some of the best selling games of all time, I don't trust them to not say "that buggy alpha is good enough, the retard fans won't care". Plus Remedy is making Alan Wake 2 so the remake will probably be relegated to a B team.Gotta remember, this is REMEDY doing this, not Rockstar. Welp, time to replay the whole trilogy again lol

They better not make it an EGS exclusive.Under the development agreement signed today, Remedy will develop the games as a single title for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S using its proprietary Northlight game engine.
“What a delightful surprise our gamers will receive when it is finally revealed that Max Payne has actually been Black this whole time!”PLEASE don't fuck this up.
No wonder he was in so much pain.“What a delightful surprise our gamers will receive when it is finally revealed that Max Payne has actually been Black this whole time!”
