So The Marvels really is the first unambiguous MCU flop. Both The Incrdible Hulk and Quantumania were considered under-performers rather than true flops but there is no way the retards at Disney will be able to spin this performance as anything but a colossal failure.

Honestly, I really don't think it's "Superhero Fatigue" that's killing the MCU. It's SHIT MOVIE fatigue that's killing it. I've only seen two movies this year. Two movies that I've genuinely liked (Gran Turismo surprisingly, and Equalizer 3). Marvel is killing itself over DEI, and no one seems to give a shit other than call people who don't like this "racists" and "sexists".
Basically. We might be over the peak for the MCU, but it's not stopping movies like GOTG3 and BPWF from doing well. Your mileage may vary, obviously, but no one was "tired" when it came to them. The MCU needs a shake-up and it's at least getting that on the TV side of things, but the movie side is yet to catch up.

The funniest thing is just like a few days before, Iger had used "The Marvels" coming up as one of their tentpole income earners. I guess that's probably the biggest reason why they had the earnings call when they did.

Can any of the five people who watched the Miss Marvel show tell me how Kamala's 'Captain Marvel Superfan' shtick functions in a continuity where Carol's only public appearance is probably a list of names of the unknown heroes who joined the Endgame fight?
Kamala Khan is a total superhero nerd who writes Avenger's fanfic online from her bedroom. She wouldn't just know who Carol was, she'd tell you every last thing about her. And then start on who she liked shipping Carol with the most.

Plus, I think you're underselling it a little. If you're part of saving 4 billion lives (on Earth alone), even as a relative newcomer you're going to get a bunch of attention. She's the woman who brought Tony Stark back to Earth just as point to begin. As to why Kamala focuses on Carol in particular, well there's subtext in the comics about Carol being this tall blonde with a stunning figure is kind of everything Kamala (short, teenage, slightly square and wont show bare skin below her neck) wants to be. In fact, unless I'm remembering wrong, when Kamala subconsciously shapeshifts into Carol before she has control of her powers, it's Carol's original cosutme she finds herself in - the swimsuit one with the thigh-highs, even though Carol at that point hadn't worn it in years. Carol is everything Kamala wanted to be.

You're right, that's her origin in the comic. The MCU obviously didn't plan ahead for her so they kind of have to imply a lot of the setup for Kamala's character.

Well I haven't seen the movie yet so I can't comment on that. But they certainly put the leg work in to establish that in the TV show. The opening is quite literally Kamala creating art of Carol and we see her sperging about this stuff a lot and going to these Avengers themed parties. Honestly, I know I go on about it a bit but off all the MCU spin-offs, I think this show is my favourite. Unless you count later seasons of Agents of Shield but that's not really canon or part of the same set and the earlier seasons were bad.

I post about it a bit because it seems to be one of the least watched whilst simultaneously most condemned here due to a perception that it must be very woke because of the young, female muslim non-White character. It's actually far less Woke than Falcon and the Winter Soldier or She-Hulk. In fact, as a I mentioned, it's actually the villain that is Woke in the Ms. Marvel show.

One thing that I really liked in the show - and it's a really tiny thing but it captures a lot of the mindset of it - is that when Kamala goes from being this intimidated, bullied outsider girl to newly confident, it doesn't become the usual Leftist revenge fantasy. Instead she starts getting on with the others and realises a lot of how she was treated was just her thinking others were picking on her without realising it was just, you know, normal teenage jostling. And that the pretty girl doesn't hate her particularly, that she was actually more the one who had been making fun of the pretty girl. I don't know how to describe the show other than it's just very positive. Nearly every Hollywood screen writer writes revenge fantasies where the bullies all realise they were wrong to pick on the screenwriter main character. Here it's about being accepted and realising a lot of the bullying was actually on you. And I'm making it sound like this is a major part of the show when actually it's minor. But it's a good example of the maturity of the writing as opposed to most of the MCU spin-offs.

Oh right, the montage. Yeah that basically covers everything you need to know about Kamala and Carol. I liked the show a fair bit, it's just the villains I didn't care for.

Outside of them, though, the characters were all fairly likable.

That literally doesn't answer my question at all. "How is Kamala a super fan of someone who, in this continuity, is basically unknown and has done next to nothing that the public would know about?" "Because she's a super fan."

Only if you're actively trying to capitalize on it (Antman was arguably the most instrumental part of saving everybody and he would have still been a 'literally who?' if he didn't make a book about it), otherwise no, you're not getting a fanbase on just having your name included because the people know absolutely nothing about you. People are gonna be focused on the Avengers they recognise or Tony Stark's death. All of Carol's activities are, as far as the MCU has told us, out of the public eye and in space and she's not exactly characterised as someone who's going on a press tour to tell her story.

Being a teenager in the MCU is pretty horrific when you think about it. Even without the snap, that probably fucked you mentally no matter whether you were snapped or not, you basically live in a world where you are essentially powerless to multitude of threats and dependent on heroes to save you and never decide that they are above the law (which, they have done repeatedly). What is even the point of Democracy in the MCU? If any hero decides he has any social point he wants to pass then the government is essentially useless in preventing it. If the Avengers decide to topple a country they'll do it.

I can't even imagine how the heroes would be seen by the public, probably like a dog that you want to appease 24/7 because he would bite your head otherwise. A teenager worshipping a hero would be like a sociopath rather than quirky nerd.

I think it's a shit no-prize answer, but it seems because of the footage and press coverage of the Endgame battle, everyone who was in it became a celebrity, as you can see in the Miss Marvel show there's people cosplaying fucking Drax and selling Groot merchandise, and we know the Guardians fucked off of Earth even faster than Carol so there were fewer chances for them to become well-known outside of the battle.
Of course, this only applies to named characters; there's no cosplays or merchandise of random wizards, ravagers, asgardian or wakandan soldiers, etc.

Imagine being the one guy whose autism latched onto T'Challa after seeing him in that fight for the first time. Horrible timing.

The worst performing movie in MCU, the Major underperforming staring film of phase 5, and a show most people don’t even remember was a thing.

Truly a draw that will get everyone hyped and excited.

Metrics aside, at the rate they're going it's gonna have to be the Regular Middle-Aged Avengers. Why's it taken so long in-universe to establish new teams?

Listen, replacing every character people liked with a teenage girl version who’s so much better and smarter than the original takes time!

Actually no. You can make a case for that in marvel comics but the superheroes in the MCU don't go evil or willfully hurt the populace that much. At its worst, it's like being a Britney Spears fan during 2007.

The more you think about it the more messed up the MCU's world is.
