Just barley, the Sigel and Schuster prototype to superman the super-man would appear in a prose story they'd pen just two years later and there where already pulp heroes and scifi tales published in pulp mags at the same time. Huxley was right in naming his book brave new world, the world of the 1930s was changing almost as fast as our own. Like our own people were abandoning traditional faith and values in favor of mass media and consumerism. The rejection of the traditional finally collapsing in on itself once it inflated too much to support itself.

Ironically within the next 20 years the superhero would lose favor, become rejected once people moved on and wanted something more. We saw a rise in every genre of comics in everything but superheroes. Maybe Hegelian dialects will come into play again once these MCU properties start to bomb and even the normies get tired of trying to follow the marvel movies. let alone deal with the bs wokeness getting pushed in them. who knows?
I've been wondering that for a while now what will the post-MCU trend look like? Will we go back to westerns? I don't see the MCU going anytime soon, since even if they bomb like Eternals Disney will just say "No they didn't" and put out another one, maybe if WWIII where to break out we will see a decline in superhero movies and an increase in films in the style of Rambo portraying le badass american soldier killing the filthy *insert enemy here* but then again you can do war propaganda with superheroes.
This is what I worry is next for Wokeism, believing that fiction is real.

These people already have such creepily childlike minds, they’d believe some science fiction claptrap to explain why fictional characters have crossed over into reality, are we seeing the seeds being planted with the introduction of the concept of multiverses and the like?

If you want to keep getting real tinfoil hat you can say that superheroes were always created with the intent to one day replace world Religions.
So how long until Biden announces "The Dimensional Merge is On!" ?

More of the same but steadily turning up the heat. When things start getting really bad they'll put out films blaming white "preppers" for food shortages. You'll be encouraged to make sure your neighbor is only buying what his ration card allows him to buy. This stuff continues until the rise of nationalism when the new government will enforce film standards. Eventually, films with happy patriotic families whose only problems are the dangers of global marxism.

reminds of of how people REEEEEEEEE about liking fictional bad guys is bad because they're bad
but tbdesu capeshit trimmed down one or two thousand years later might look like a lot of historical study
like yeah maybe there was that one text about Gilgamesh In Egypt but that was a What If so it doesn't count

Non-shit adaptions of anime/manga and video games would be my guess, we might already be seeing this with the Sonic The Hedgehog movies, one day there could be a DBZ movie as big a deal as The Avengers.

You have to have people who grew up with the material and really care about it to adapt it properly, comic book movies used to be in the same boat anime/manga and video game movies were/still are, a Sonic The Hedgehog movie would have probably sucked had it come out in 2009 like DBZ Evolution, but we're far enough into the future that filmmakers who grew up with something like Sonic are now making the adaptions.

Picture adaptions of all the games and anime that were popular in the 90s and 2000s, Metal Gear, Sailor Moon, DBZ etc, that's probably the next big trend.

What were their MySpace like?
all three were edgy and gay.

thats another bit, comics were a lot more like managa, a different one for every taste, it was censorship that really forced only the bland superheros onto the scene, FFS Superman wasn't even the most popular superhero of his day, that was Captain Marvel, and the only reason it didn't stay that way was because the publisher decided to drop the character and superheros altogether because they weren't selling well as comics.

planning on superheroes ruling the entertainment field would be like planning on dogecoin becoming huge back in 2015, even if you were into crypto back then, that certainly wouldn't have been the flavor you'd expect to make it, horror and detective comics were doing much better in the 1950s.

it was only after the batman tv show in the 1960s that superhero comics and superheros as a money making and influential ideal became realized.

I think it won't die a notable death like you're expecting, the MCU and superheros will just transition to tv, there won't be a dominant trend because the money won't be there for such a thing. the DC films have budgets much lower than they did ever before. i can see Marvel doing the same, it will be like how the 2000s had crime shows and reality shows, they'll still be around and popular enough to still be a thing they just won't be the zeitgeist.

i think we'll just have more slice of life stuff, you have to remember movies are basically dead because the studios have normalized the concept that anything they release in theaters will be on streaming for free in 6 weeks. and the lack of reliance on international and china means they literally won't have the budget to pull off videogames or anime, unless they do it with jap-tier special effects.

it also makes sense, during the 1970s stagflation high budget films were replaced with lower budget new hollywood crap. so i'm sure we'll see a return to that only because of diversity. the films we watch will just look like higher budget BET films. superhero films will still be on top but they won't make 3 billion dollars, but under 1 billion, and it will cost $100 to see them in theaters.

This is true, nothing ever really goes away in modern culture, I often forget that reality TV is still a thing, nobody ever talks about it like they used to, but it's still a thing.

Bookstores are still crammed with westerns and Harlequin romances, who's actually reading all this shit?

Avatar 2 is probably going to be the Heaven's Gate that kills off the blockbuster model started by Jaws and Star Wars, I mean we're talking almost 50 years of that model, nothing lasts forever.

I think I'm probably done with theaters, couldn't be assed to see The Batman even though I originally wanted to, I saw Ghostbusters Afterlife in theaters and in what felt like no time at all the movie was out on video/streaming, why go through the effort to drag your ass to a theater anymore? Just wait a month or two and you can watch it at home, it's really not worth it for the "theater experience" anymore.

I don’t think there will be one. At least, not for a while. Due to the internet, a generational culture is basically a thing of the past, people and interests are more spread out than ever. Cape-shit was lucky to hook on before tv and movie theaters went away thanks to the big boom being in 2008 (MCU begins + Dark Knight). At this point, what is out there that has grabbed the attention of people in the same way the MCU, Star Wars, or other legendary franchises have?

Japanese stuff is certainly getting more popular again as @Dom Cruise suggests, but does it have the same cultural pull? I guess that will be up for the future to decide.

I guess anime and vidya adaptations then? I'll confess I used to hate anime and even bullied weebs back in high school, but lately have been warming up to it mostly to escape all the diversity and inclusion crap from current year, and I know I'm not alone in this sentiment like you and Cruise said. a lot of westerners are warming up to it, in the same way comics where seen as "geek stuff" and comic book nerds where bullied, and now geek culture pretty much dominates the entertainment industry I guess weebs will take over one day

Then Korean entertainment fans the next day

TBH, I do think that the Ghost in the Shell with Scarjo was adapted by a director that cared about the material (a lot of Bassett Hound references in that movie). It's just that the movie isn't smart enough or methodical enough to work as a movie.

The movie format in general doesn't work for anime that went over 26 episodes. I would say Netflix series format would fit, but... well... Netflix adaptations meme. Netflix Sailor Moon would be about a black fat Usagi (who will be named Bunny cuz English) #metoo-ing Tuxedo Mask for being a Cis-hetero White guy that gets her out of jams. Metal Gear would be a thinly-veiled Muh Russian Collusion political drama with even more obnoxious monologues about Orange Man Bad.

Tbh, I can definitely see this happening if the economy improves and the capeshit fad dies out or just migrates to becoming a more TV-focused genre like the gangster drama eventually did.

I'm honestly surprised that it was Sonic of all things that might've broken the curse on vidya movie adaptations. Now if only they can somehow make a Resident Evil movie that doesn't suck...

Ghost in the Shell was a real attempt, but you also need the right talent, not just someone that grew up with the material.

Which material exactly? As the live-action movie was an adaptation of the anime movie adaptation [Oshii] of the original manga [Shirow]
Not entirely, they threw in a little Stand Alone Complex and 2nd Gig as well.

I really liked the live action Ace Attorney film that came out in Japan. I remember a while back, a film festival in my town showed it.

Personally I checked out of the MCU after Endgame. Even then the cracks were starting to form. If I’m going to be honest Infinity War was a more satisfying end to the story.

For instance, how is it that Captain Marvel has a sense of premonition where bad stuff is happening and can fly there within minutes, yet Thanos slaughtered and murdered half of unfortunate civilizations populations around the galaxy while Captain Karen was around for roughly 20 years of that? And then when she did meet up with his ship she one shot it like a piece of cardboard? The most feared warlord and tyrant in the galaxy and yet Captain Marvel never tried searching for him nor came in contact before.

It just kind of feels like all the hype towards having Thanos of the ultimate villan buildup for the last decade is being outdone and tossed away via their shoddy D+ series.
Vision? Sliced him in half with the mind stone.
Thanos’s super thick and durable skin? Able to be pierced by a rotting human corpse.
Two of his henchmen? Beat him within the pulp of his life.
Thanos being the original super strategic mastermind? Outdone by some crazy depressed maniacal dude who eats apples in a void castle.

Sorry for the Spacebattles tier Autismo sperging. Slap rainbows on this post but I personally predict by the end of the decade that the MCU will have faded and burnt out of water cooler talk pop culture relevancy and be restrained to varying quality D+ shows that only reaction Youtubers and Coomers watch.

Is this stuff from their What If? If so, it's actually on point with the "What If?" comics to be stupid as fuck and basically nerf everyone to make whoever the star of the issue do whatever stupid ass shit they want them to do.

Yeah the What If shit doesn't count, despite them trying to work it into Doctor Strange 2, that entire thing was a clusterfuck and embodied everything wrong with capeshit imo. Disregard it.

As for the Thanos shit and why nobody was doing anything about it despite him evidently being a well known badass, I kind of dismiss it as the Marvel equivalent of "Bin Laden to attack in the United States" thing; They know there's a bad guy, out there, somewhere, who would like to conquer everything, but it didn't really occur to anyone he would or could until he was already well on his way to doing it. Like he was a badass but there were countless badasses, and there was little reason to think he would actually get his hands on Magic Fuck Everything Up Rocks.

At that point he as only "killing half of the planets he was finding". Which is bad, but you gotta think how often they resort to "world ender" villains in these movies and make the assumption some asshole only killing half likely wasn't considered top priority.

Like a giant man who eats planets may be one bigger priority to them. Hint hint
