no? when they grew up you didn't have this obnoxious fandom around IPs or at least in a way that could be monopolized, outside of mickey mouse most fiction was well liked but its not like the writers of the lone ranger or zorro were seeing a dime from people selling action figures of their characters.
the creators of these stories put as much thought into their works as the bloggers on buzzfeed and vice did, at least with lucas he had an incentive to turn it into a religion, outside of Mr.Lee no one got rich making superhero stories.
I'm not talking about making money, I'm talking about an intentional agenda for these characters to one day replace traditional Religion.
Go back and read Brave New World, from 1931, older than any of these superhero characters and you'll read what comes off like essentially a road map for where they're trying to take the world today, as if Huxley had some inside knowledge.
The demonization of the nuclear family with the state taking the role of family from cradle to grave, the censorship of history and past works of media, everyone being arranged by a tiered system of worth (not quite the progressive stack, but pretty close) and life boiling down to the meaningless pursuit of simple pleasure, it's all there in Brave New World.
Stuff like the very concept of mother and father being "politically incorrect" would have seemed so alien in 1931, but today it reminds me of "male and female" being politically incorrect.
This is all conspiracy theory of course but you can't help but wonder what agendas are out there and how far they go back, sure what's happened with comic book superheroes could just be a coincidence, just like everything in Brave New World could be coincidence, but you still can't help but wonder.
I mean some of these guys were simply really smart and correctly read the tea leaves, Ray Bradbury predicted cancel culture but I don't think there's any conspiracy there, he was just a brilliant mind, but who knows with something like Brave New World.
