Kingdom come's a pretty good comic however.

Kingdom is the first thing that gets mentioned when any defence of Mark Waid gets made.
But without that Alex Ross art it's a pretty basic story. That painted / hyper real style could elevate shit like squirrel girl.

Personally I much preferred irredeemable until the last few issues which where a rushed cluster fuck.

That’s the thing. Kingdom Come wasn’t Mark Waid’s Story. He was just the hired gun to polish up the dialog. Kingdom Come start to finish was Alex Ross’s story. And it’s impossible to realize otherwise as soon as you know that the principle narrator of Kingdom Come, the elderly bearded minister that the reader follows is Alex Ross’s Father. Look at the story. It’s actually a very conservative story. The good guy is a little old minister who re finds his flagging faith. Enough so to stand up to and put right the ruinous “false gods” that are plaguing his world. Does anyone think such a story could possibly come from the schrieking radical left wing lunatic that we have come to know as a Waid? Kingdom Come is Alex Ross’s story. Irredeemable is Waid’s solo take on the same subject.

I've noticed a trend building in SJW and radical religious circles that has some disturbing implications. They seem unable to differentiate the actions of good people and bad people in the same story.

This is truth, and my mind immediately thought of this.

They act as if this is the sum of all evil, and put these words into the mouth of Red Skull himself, arguably the most evil of all the villains traditionally (because come on, he thought the Nazi's didn't go far enough). The thing is, what Red Skull is saying here is completely reasonable, and if someone like say, Obama were saying these exact same words (maybe with less angry emphasis) at least 80% of the public would nod their heads and agree. Unedited at least half the country would agree, and of that half a large percentage, if not the majority probably say HAIL HYDRA after they finish this panel.

Does this make them literally nazis? No. At least, not the way Nazi's are traditionally defined. But that tent is very, very large for these people to the point they can't differentiate between real Nazi's like Richard Spencer, and totally not Nazi's like Sargon of Akkad or Jordan Peterson. The danger in this is that all those people who say HAIL HYDRA after reading this panel. They might actually decide these Nazi folks sound pretty reasonable.

Now any artist or writer who shows a villain character doing villainous acts is somehow condoning those acts.

Did the villain use magic for evil? You're trying to make children practice witchcraft.
If you depict Nazis killing Jews, you're secretly a Nazi.
If you depict a villain making a racist rant? You're a racist.
Did the villain rape someone? You're a sex offender.

Mr. Waid seems to be part of this crowd. He doesn't understand that the ability to play "lets pretend" while writing a book isn't the same as commiting the act.

Excellent post, but honestly, the people who go after kids for practicing witchcraft are in a powerless minority now. Even Mike Pence, the Electrocutioner himself, doesn't give a goddam about Harry Potter.

Yeah, a more accurate metaphor would be for Marvel to push him out of the way of the bus and take the hit instead. Which absolutely will not happen. They may not have a choice in the matter though. D&C has months and months of screen caps, twitter logs, audio and video communications and so on of Marvel employees that can show a pattern of organized malice by the corporation itself. It may not have been directed by the executives at the company or organized in any formal way, but nothing was done to stop it either. And under laws like the ones being bandied about, official negligence is no defense. They can't act as if they were not unaware of what was going on. They had a legal obligation to prevent the activity that Waid was but one active minion in advancing.

From the sound of things Meyer is definitely going to sue Waid. His lawyer will (correctly) point out this will still be expensive and at the end Meyer is not going to see a red cent from the old loser. The only way to actually get blood from the stone is to put the squeeze on Marvel, and maybe even the House of Mouse itself.

*edit* to clarify why Marvel itself is in legal jeapordy here, Waid may have been the causal agent that brought about the illegal acts, such as the Defamation, and the tortious interference. But he did not commit these crimes in a vacuum. They occurred under the backdrop of a larger problem at Marvel itself that actively encouraged these behaviors. Worse still, the idiots made this all public on facebook and twitter, so it was not like it was a big secret. The only thing was that the defamatory statements and organized hate campaigns against D&C never rose to the level of actually causing Meyer damages that could be proven at court. He was a sperg on the internet with a shitty youtube channel. Not big bucks. But the moment Waid interfered with a contract for a publication deal backed by 300,000 dollars in startup capital? Whole different ball game. And all of that prior activity by Marvel employees forms a legal thread that a good lawyer can follow all the way to Marvels bank account.

I find his videos mildly interesting, mostly because I had no idea comics in general and Marvel in particular had gotten so godawful and because it was nice to see someone razzing them for it. But you're right about their overreaction being absolutely hysterical. The other part of this, that matches the religious fundies, is that because the IngSocJus warriors (because of Muh Representation) believe in their hearts that a) ONLY a True and Honest PeeOhCee can ACCURATELY write a PeeOhCee character, b) only a Lesbian can accurately portray lesbuns, and c) only a troon can portray a true and honest Trans, it boils down to, if someone writes an accurate portrayal of a Nazi, they MUST be one. Because, as the religious fundies would say, "You wouldn't be able to if it wasn't IN YOUR HEART!" Keep in mind that in religious circles, THINKING something is the same as doing it in terms of it being a "sin", which doesn't even go as far as IngSocJus reasoning on this point because muh unconscious bias.

This isn't about pretending to them. This is about changing people's minds, they think. They think little kids picking up comic books and reading them will become "woke" and thus the next generation will rid the world of muhsoggyknees and waycism and twanzphobia and kebabphobia and whatever else.

I think I've figured it out. This is basically what was predicted in the book 1984. The SJWs are fighting against Thoughtcrimes and Wrongthink.

The issue for the SJWs is not the actions being shown, but the unwanted thoughts being displayed. Any incorrect thinking must be punished, or depicted as the worst kind of evil they can imagine, AKA Nazis.
And if the writer creates an evil character, and tries to make them sympathetic or reasonable, then the crime of the writer is wrongthink for daring to even think about those thoughts long enough put those concepts in the character's head.

It's an even greater crime because those concepts might make the SJWs question their own ideas, and they can't have that. This is why the SJWs pepper their work with thought-terminating cliches like "racism!" and "transmysogyny!", because it keeps them from actually thinking the unwanted ideas.
