Remember the old statement of "The Personal Is Political?" In their worldview, you do not have the option of opting out. You are not allowed to show indifference, you are not allowed to disagree. Your role is to shut up and nod while they prostelytize to you using the platform they took over under false pretenses and are now using to broadcast their propaganda.

I'm betting he was always a leftie, probably even a far lefty, even in his youth. One with probable undiagnosed autism, with probably some form of co-morbid disorder such as Narcissistic Personality Disorder, or worse. Unfortunately, he didn't get to the part where he got a brain after turning 30. His tard raging behavior likely turned women off him early on, but his autistic attempt to gain favor with women turned to becoming a woke IngSocJus feminist in a last-ditch effort at the proverbial attraction sign. The other part of this, that matches the religious fundies, is that because the IngSocJus warriors (because of Muh Representation) believe in their hearts that a) ONLY a True and Honest PeeOhCee can ACCURATELY write a PeeOhCee character, b) only a Lesbian can accurately portray lesbuns, and c) only a troon can portray a true and honest Trans, it boils down to, if someone writes an accurate portrayal of a Nazi, they MUST be one. Because, as the religious fundies would say, "You wouldn't be able to if it wasn't IN YOUR HEART!" Keep in mind that in religious circles, THINKING something is the same as doing it in terms of it being a "sin", which doesn't even go as far as IngSocJus reasoning on this point because muh unconscious bias.

This isn't about pretending to them. This is about changing people's minds, they think. They think little kids picking up comic books and reading them will become "woke" and thus the next generation will rid the world of muhsoggyknees and waycism and twanzphobia and kebabphobia and whatever else.

Ayup. Though I doubt he's ever thought it out in those terms; as much as I dislike the guy, I don't get the Captain Soy, Super-Sex-Offender vibe from him, kissing up purely for the sake of female attention. He seems to sincerely believe in what he's doing, and his fight against D&C and Wrongthink has the feel of a crusade, not an attraction sign.

Of course, who knows what shit'll come out of the closet once he's no longer under the Mouse's protection? At this point, I'm more surprised when a male feminist isn't trying to score.

He would have been a piece of shit no matter what his politics were. But they happened to be left, and he happened to be a complete shithead, and there now happens to be a popular left wing movement that believes being "on the right side of history" (which you will never know while you are alive) means you're allowed to be an absolute, utter fuckwad all the time to everyone who either disagrees with you or is lower on the woke fuckwad totem pole.

Quite understandably, such a social movement almost exclusively attracts absolute, utter fuckwads.
 
Richard Meyer (Diversity and Comics) has hired an attorney and filed a complaint with the FTC using Waid's antics as the backbone of his lawsuit.
 
Why the reasoning for this is easy.

Being an ultra-woke SJW is currently trendy in the media circles he inhabits/wishes to impress.

The reasons for this I have textwalled about in the past, but essentially boil down to a mix of pampered rich kids wanting that "IM A LITERAL SAINT!" high that drove other pampered rich kids to become religious fundamentalists/hippies/maoists/randroids/whatever in the past, and the current generation of PR/Marketing graduates who have been fanatical in trying to convince corporate executives (mostly in creative media and tech) that pandering to the Tumblr demographic will magically make all ethnicities/genders/sexual preferences/religions said demographic claims to represent flock to buy the company's products. Combined they create an extremely cultish atmosphere in any creative media environment with a mix of aggressive zealots seeking to prove their holiness by purging any possible heretic, and cynical yet hilariously naive higher ups who are convinced that pandering to the zealots will triple their profits.

Thus he and his ilk, despite having jumped on various "LOL PC STOOPID! LOOK HOW EDGY I AM!" bandwagons in the past, will screech about anything SJWs screech about, and direct his autistic aggression and bitterness against their targets and against anyone he thinks is "trendy" to hate among his crybully colleagues.

Much like other specimens we have documented (i.e Graham Linehan) his motivation is far from genuine, just a pathetic desperation to remain in the kewl-kids-krowd at all costs, even if that means sacrificing his own dignity and especially if it means throwing other people under the bus (which also helps draw away possible inquisition of him and his past). Some especially cynical specimens (i.e. Jon Scalzi) use it as a way of effectively seizing control of his own petty corner of creative media (in this case the Hugos) from any potential rivals and using it to vindictively punish those he hated beforehand.

Or to put it short, middle aged hasbeens are trying to jump on to the latest trendy bandwagon for pampered rich kids in the media circles they aspire to, for all kinds of pathetic reasons, and will go to any and all depths of cringe to impress the new kewl kids

Honestly, I hope Meyer wins the case, which will send a message to other cronies like him. That, and I actually do want to buy Jawbreakers.
