If anyone here wants to keep the BGE announcements going in the Community Submissions thread, one of you is gonna have to do it, not me.

It doesn't need to be in the community submissions thread. A daily post there is too much.

I am looking forward to the great nippon vs carmack showdown. With Doom winning, of course

If they can't appreciate a little bit of fun in among the endless doomposting, fuck 'em. We'll keep the voting to ourselves.

Mario 64 was setup in Wal-Mart just so kids would ask mom to take them out shopping, just so they could play, mindblowing at the time. You had to be there. The video game magazine section was also the place to hangout while parents shopped.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (29 votes) vs. NetHack (28 votes)
Super Mario 64 (44 votes) vs. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (43 votes)

its hard to explain how much of a leap in tech and gaming Mario 64 was. You had to be there to experience it
I know that it's practically impossible to have one of these polls without having it actually be about one's nostalgia, i.e. Pacman is better than Last of Us 2 because I was young and I didn't have throat cancer and liver spots back then.

But we have retro games that are actually still legitimately better than any new game that is ostensibly in their genre. Star Control 2 from 1992 still has not been eclipsed. I liked Super Mario 64 but it's obsolete. If we dig it out of the grave on the basis of what a technical leap it was, then it should immediately lose to both Doom and Super Mario Bros. 3 on the exact same basis.

I think at this point everyone who cares is already watching the thread, maybe next time try and get a feature or keep the postings to round starts. Best movie could be fun with a lot of shitposting.

I get this sites for laughing at crazies and political sperging but it’s also one of the last forums that’s almost entirely uncensored or gatekept so it’s nice to use it for other stuff sometimes.

Next time allow people to bribe you to add a late nominee, maybe up to the second round.

Spergs got wallets.

Probably should have done a weekly vote (with more games at a time, therein) instead.

Agree with the general sentiment but TLOU2 sucks, I'd rather play some crusty Atari game over that shit.

I mean I disagree, but its up to personal taste so its not worth arguing about, no one is right or wrong, its just comes down to preference.

I just really wanted to explain how much of a revolution the game was. I don't think its fair to judge these 30 year old games with the lens of current year.
They invented the formula, its only natural that it has been perfected since. Its easier to copy something successful and improving on it the formula than inventing a whole new genre of game.

There's the matter of how much games have been able to improve upon something that an earlier game did. There's no doubt that the more recent 3D Mario games have tighter controls, better camera, etc., but they're not fundamentally different when it comes down to it. Never mind the countless other games that have used and perhaps refined the formula in their own way over the years as well.

Mario 64 isn't even in my top 3 favorite platforming games, or even my top 3 favorite Mario platforming games, but it got so many things right nearly 3 decades ago when it didn't have the benefit of cribbing off of someone else's work and hasn't had anything since come along to redefine that genre in the same way it did that it's clearly deserving of being among the finalists.

You should focus on the two voters who made it win then.
I'm proud to have done my duty.

Scary moon + "JUST LIKE MY JAPANESE ANIMES [pisses]"
Another set of easy choices, seems to happen a lot.

people make a virtual civil war to defend their fucking metal gear and super mario 64, both games suck niggerass compared to today
SM64 is still fun today, but MGS1...it has everything but gameplay going for it. The remake is better overall, even if some changes were for the worse it's a good game that's fun to play.

Both games are better than anything that came out in the last 5 years at least, if not 10.
Odyssey is better than SM64, controls and camera are actually good and there's a good beach level.

KF is a haven for discussing media freely, best forum left these days for that.

I'd rather eat the rotten asshole of a roadkill skunk and down it with beer.
