I honestly feel like Chain of Memories doesn't get as much love as it should.
Honestly I found it harder than 1 and 2 on proud mode. Ansem is an asshole and breaks your cards like nothing.
Marluxia can be a shit head too. I lost to both at least 15 times before I ended up rage winning.

Edit:The difficulty became fucking sporadic.
Like it doesn't even have a hard boss. It just goes from moderate to WTF AM I SUPPOSED TO DO, WHERE MY 0 CARDS AT?!?!! I feel accomplished beating it underleveled though.

COM isn't too bad if you exploit lethal frame and sonic blade in Sora's story, though it doesn't work against aerial enemies like Marluxia first form. For him I used a mixture of holy, watersplash and the attack that shoots a lot of fire balls.

I remember having zero difficulty with Ansem, might have died once.
 
Were I to want to catch up in Kingdom Hearts enough to know what's going on in 3, and owned a PS4, what should I buy? Their latest compilation?
 
In the US there's a the story so far collection or something which has literally all the games released in it. I would recommend that

If you actually want to play the games (you will probably not get done before KH3), the 1.5/2.5 collection for PS4 is some of the best value you can get in gaming. It contains KH1, Chain of Memories, KH2 and Birth By Sleep, which are all worth playing, and 358/2 Days and Re: Coded as movies, but thoses aren't that fun to play anyway. At that point you're only really missing Dream Drop Distance, which got re-releases seperately for PS4 as part of 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, together with the KH3 prologue and some other stuff. I think the The Story So Far bundle is just a combination of those three.

Apparently it was a member of a local mobs/gang who did this, and he sold it in facebook groups for $100.

I don't care too much about the story at this point but the moment when
Lea saw Kairi as Xion
instantly got me.

The Japanese version has comments disabled, I assume due to the spoiler controversy?
