I never thought I'd see the herpetological equivalent of the Navy Seals copypasta, but here we are.

I've been getting into aquatic shit recently since I wanted to set up a nano shrimp tank for my cat to watch and maybe get a pea puffer down the line. And wouldn't you fucking know it, quirky exotic owners who can't care to take on the responsibility are the problem (per-wikipedia):

I have a turkey that just hangs out in my driveway all day and I throw cat kibble and seed out for him, am I disrupting the ecosystem here in doing so? He's a loner much like myself, so would that still be upsetting the natural balance of nature if he literally has no interaction with other wildlife?Nah keeping any wildlife is a big no, no, even if it's endemic. They start losing natural behaviors, associating humans with food or safety, if it escapes chances are it won't be able to reintegrate or it will seek another human, if you are not blackpilled when it comes to people I don't know what to say but I'll tell you that most animals with a deflective sense of self preservation that approach a "human fwend" end up dead.
On the topic of a crow it could be as simple as landing on the arm of a kid eating ice-cream to grab some only for the mom to give it a mighty blow with her purse, not even maliciously but reflexively.
Or a zoosadist wins the lottery when a cute birdie willingly goes to him.
It's a sad reality but it's never a good idea to disrupt an ecosystem, people should never forget the reason why "NO FEEDING" signs became a thing in parks and places where wildlife and people interact.

This is something that we figured out a long time ago.
And when it comes to non-natives the argument of If it escapes, no big deal. is a thing too. I hate to admit this but they use the statistical reality that an animal released on an strange environment will almost certainly die either because, can't reproduce, can't find food, hostile ecosystem, etc...
But fuck dude it only takes the right circumstances to create an invasive species problem, see the fucking everglades and the lion fish in the atlantic.
I fucking hate Floridians so much.
We really do.
So many pet tubers videos can be basically amounted to "OH NO!!! I neglected my pets and NOW!! I have to fix it!!!!"
Pets just don't make good content in long form, you can watch a video of a cat being silly for a couple mintues but how do you make a video of snakes weekly for 10 minutes? what do the snakes even do for content? nobody is going to watch you shovel shit and disinfect a tank every week.
So these tubers get more pets for content, they put the animals in situations that normal pet owners do for content.
They basically have 4 options for content,
1. Make do with what animals are and just enjoy them.
2. Buy more animals
3. Shill animal products
4. Harass animals to do something for content
Most fall into 2 and 4.
There was a time when I was going to get into breeding ball pythons (ages ago, never did) but I remember breeders having interesting videos back in the day. I guess it was more business management content and morph breeding data than "look how hard my snake slept all week". I don't have the space or interest nowadays to do it, but I imagine interesting reptile channels could exist.
Keep feeding your turkey bruh, it must be a domestic one anyway.I have a turkey that just hangs out in my driveway all day and I throw cat kibble and seed out for him, am I disrupting the ecosystem here in doing so? I fuckin love Turkov, he's a docile and beautiful dood.
Current standard is usually thermostat + heating pad on the side of the cage (or using the whole heating tape/rack system combo if you're a breeding snakefag). Theory is it makes it easier for the reptile to thermoregulate if they can just move away vs. having to find a way to get off the ground. Also some reptiles will try to burrow to escape heat which works in the wild but not in cages with heated bottoms. You get a view of his snake room and it's nothing but but a 40 gallon (2x3?) and a few 20/10 gallons, directly on the floor with overhead heat lamps lol. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't everyone use regulated undertank heat pads these days? I doubt he has temp sensors for all those lights, he was probably baking the fucking snakes.... though he does adhere to hot side/cold side (mostly).... and it could be other herps with UV-B or something...but he says 'snake room.'
This guy irritates me at best and gives me the creeps at worst. He reminds me very much of Simon Whistler in... well, pretty much everything. The fact that it takes him at least half the runtime of any of his videos to get to the fucking point- again like Whistler- does not help.#1 Clints Reptiles
Clint's great. I believe he is currently teaching at Utah Valley University but he also runs a reptile petting zoo in Springville, Utah.#1 Clints Reptiles - Squeaky clean Utah type but with a sense of humor , super knowledgeable and professional and is a zoologist or something equivalent. His unique content is Phylogenies (this evolved from that which is related to this....), also standard pet reviews (with a really smart scoring system) but he has been doing them so long and acquired so much clout that he can go to the aquarium and review the penguins. There is also some '2010 atheist debate bro' shit in there somewhere and critiques of animal deathmatch books for children. He stays relevant by being a better naturist than anyone else in the sphere and taking the job seriously.
Sorry, I sometimes forget that other countries don't have government employees that are on call 24/7 and are paid to remove and relocate venomous snakes and other dangerous reptiles that find their way into human dwellings.Too much of this thread is people arguing about whether or not the snakes should have been killed. As much as I think THE BRAVE HEROES OF LAW ENFORCEMENT should be bitten by venomous snakes, to expect some Barney Fife to learn all about snakes in order to rehome a dozen or so dangerous reptiles is retarded. Frankly, it’s the kind of position a redditor would take.

I also strongly recommend that you add Viper Keeper to that list. He's mad, but he is extremely transparent about everything that goes into keeping venomous reptiles, and works with snakes on a professional basis as well as private.
we just shoot snakes my guySorry, I sometimes forget that other countries don't have government employees that are on call 24/7 and are paid to remove and relocate venomous snakes and other dangerous reptiles that find their way into human dwellings.
Carry on being American, I guess.
Weak. You don't even have a single species in the top ten.we just shoot snakes my guy
Dindu update, sure there were bugs but they weren't his bugs
Put the fucking chimpanzee with it as well. People are 100% mentally retarded if they own even a baby, because that motherfucker will grow up, get mad, kill your pets, then rip your face off while using your own hands to do the deed. I was ok with them until Travis, the overweight, spoiled, Xanax and alcohol addicted chimpanzee and what he did to poor Charla Nash. Funny how he ran right up to a police officer who responded to his owners 911 plea, then the bastard tried to attack him and got shot.

‘Aw jeez the poor heckin’ danger noodles.’
Adults that talk like that are embarrassing, and there’s several in this thread.

I've only just learned about this guy but from the pictures alone I get what you mean. It's his eyes. This guy irritates me at best and gives me the creeps at worst.
I was on a hike one time and a black snake rolled down the side of the mountain and landed on the trail right beside me. I didn't even think. I just jumped and screamed. It was such an instant thing too. Didn't even process why I did it since I only saw it drop in peripherally. It was such a primal reaction too. No thought process at all. Once my higher functions caught up and I realized it was just a harmless black snake it seemed pretty silly.
The one and only time I ever killed an animal that wasn't for food I was 8 and there was a rattler in the stable with the horses so I grabbed the manure shovel without thinking and brought it down full force as close to his head as I could manage like my grandma taught me. I remember everyone was really complimentary about my bravery and clear thinking in an emergency but it definitely wasn't bravery or clear thinking. Completely acting on autopilot and I felt sick when it was over.Anyone who hasn’t experienced this (I had something similar on a Boy Scout hike years ago) has no real idea what instinctive action is. It’s fucking mind bending - you are outside your body watching it do things you had no idea about.
"In the western world," pets are nearly as coddled as children. We refer to them as "fur babies" and people will spend tens of thousands on cancer treatment for an ancient pet with leukemia. If a man systematically murders his entire family, people are like "oh, no".....until they find out that he shot the dog, too, then they flip out. Only in the west would you have an "Animal Liberation Front" breaking into labs and factory farms to reveal how awful they are. People who love cats and think they should be outdoors fight with people who love the wild birds that are killed by the cats. Can we in the western world just admit we systemically hate animals?
Why is it our main "solution" to helping animals is just kill them?
"Oh it is so wrong for this guy to have an endagered species! Well time to crush it's skull... for it's benefit."
