If you're looking into getting into modding Skyrim and older games I'd suggest getting an AMD X3D CPU because older games are usually single-core bound and require a large cache in order to not chug when heavily modded. If you want to save some money you could go with an AM4 motherboard and 32gigs of DDR4 running at least 3200mHz, preferably 3600mHz. Ryzens work best with faster RAM. With a X3D CPU and 32 gigs of RAM your PC will be able to keep up for several years then you can upgrade to AM5 when AM6 comes out to save money.

For GPUs an AMD card will be fine if you aren't getting into LLMs and AI wankbots. The only issue with modded Skyrim and AMD cards comes when you're sculpting face presets with High Poly Head. No matter how much VRAM you have the game will chug when you do that with an AMD card because it's optimized for Nvidia cards. I run a ultra modded Skyrim with over 2500 plugins and a resource intensive ENB and the lowest my framerate gets is 30 FPS in Falkreath in 1080p with a Ryzen 5 5600 (overclocked by 200 MHz so it's really a base 5600X) and a RTX 6600 with 8GB VRAM. Skyrim needs to be locked to 60FPS so the physics engine doesn't shit itself because the physics is linked to your FPS. A 7000-series card with at least 16 gigs of VRAM will let you run a similar modded Skyrim to mine with at least 60FPS everywhere

And make sure you have a gen 4 NVMe drive as well, that'll help with load times. Use Mod Organizer, not Vortex, for modding Skyrim and other Bethesda games. Vortex is for retards. Don't download Skyrim mods from schaken mods unless you want to have Chris Hansen to tell you to take a seat. Avoid r/skyrimmods, redditors are retarded and think Community Shaders is as good or better than ENB. CS is made by trannies while ENB is made by a based Russian autist who hates fags.

This information is extremely useful and I use MO, not Vortex because I'm not retarded. Are there any based modding communities that isn't NexusMods or am I fucked on that aspect.

I prefer my games/mods not to be made by trannies

If you want mods that were removed you can join the Drowned Mods forum. They were a subreddit, then a discord, and now a forum. You can download all the paid Skyrim mods if you want shitty mods that aren't supported,
The Tullius Channel on arca.live has a ton of mods for Skyrim, Fallout 4, and Starfield from Korea, Japan, Russia, and other non-english sites. If you're American you'll need a VPN to access any of the posts.
Gamer Mods is a Russian site with a lot of pirated paid mods. Most of the mods are also in English but if you use the Sovngarde font it'll show Cyrillic letters.
Deg Mods is a project to create a modding site free of the stink of trannies and faggots.
If you find a mod author with a Patreon try looking them up on Kemono.

Must have been quite a shock after such a long time of being a consolepleb. My first exposure to game modification was maphack for Diablo II. True modding came 2 years later with Morrowind.

im currently playing deadpool. this is a game ive always wanted to play but never got around to playing it and kinda forgot about it until i saw it on a repack site

man, playing this game with enhanced 4k graphics, custom buttons for my playstation controller, and changing the skins to whatever i want. it feels like when i first got into computers as a child, im enjoying my time

i do appreciate the computerfags giving helping me out despite being a consolefag. it’s like being an american and going to mainland china and seeing the people spit on the floor on trains

such a culture shock

Feel like it's kinda late, but I suppose the current generation of consoles really have no benefit at all this time around.

Welcome to 15 years ago, OP. It has really been that long since PC gaming went from being an alternative way of playing games, like during the 6th gen, to being flat out better than consoles.

Civ isn't a great strategy game but it's pretty nice for beginners I think. I prefer RTS games personally.
I'm the opposite. I prefer turned-based strategy because in RTS I hated how something would go tits-up when I turned by back for a split second.

For me, it's about the right platform for the right game. Xbox/GamePass for AAA, and Steam for hidden indie gems and PC exclusives.

The common criteria is "what gets me to the best quality vidya experience without issues?" If the PC version requires me to conduct some complex techpriest ritual to work, then I'm just gonna play the console version.

Conversely, if the console version isn't properly configured (such as the UI text being too small to read from the couch), I go to the PC version.

Maybe having a full gaming rig is better. I don't know personally, because I don't have the time, money, or inclination to go to all the trouble of building one, just so I can join the platform equivalent of "the mods will fix it".

i wouldn’t trust the chinese to make my power supply
You're shit out of luck because almost all of them are made in China to some extent. Silverstone boasts about Japanese capacitors but a lot of the other parts are still from China.

Some helpful outlets for PSU reviews:
PSUCultists
Aris
Cybenetics

The 80+ rating on power supplies is only for power efficiency.

For other components, pretty much every outlet reviews CPUs and GPUs and has their own testing methods. Just avoid Linus.

Hardware Unboxed has a wide variety of videos on CPUs, GPUs, some motherboards, and they also did RAM benchmarks for AMD CPUs.

I don't remember any other motherboard reviewers off hand, but I do use Versus for comparing motherboard models. General rule is in 90% of cases you won't need anything higher end than a good B650 board for AMD CPUs. AMD has a chipset guide for what the difference is between each type of motherboard.

Personally I'm slightly biased towards MSI motherboards, I prefer their BIOS layout over there other board manufacturers.

GamersNexus has excellent reviews for CPU coolers, cases, and even some partner model GPUs, as well as the usual silicon reviews.

There's also MonitorsUnboxed for monitor reviews. He's been doing a mix of budget and high end monitor reviews.

I think PaulsHardware has the best DIY builds and part selection guides, it's what I used when re-learning.

SSD Tester is probably the most thorough SSD benchmarking I've found. But I wouldn't put a huge amount of weight into the scores if you only are going to be playing games.

If you want to use Linux, ProtonDB and AreWeAntiCheat track Linux compatibility on games.

As someone else posted already PCPartPicker is a useful tool. The compatibility filter is a huge help at first.

If you are in the US check if you live near a Microcenter since they have knowledgeable staff and fairly good store deals.

I think Intel still has some value for ultra-budget builds, like under $600. But in the US I'm seeing AMD's 9600X drop to $185 on Amazon. The real problem in the US at the moment is GPU prices. You're looking at probably 40% of the budget on just the GPU. Everything there is overpriced, especially the newly released cards.

I threw together this list on PCPPer just as a vague idea of a lower-end build, GPU not included because everything is massively overpriced. If AMD's 9070 or 9070XT ever drop to $600 or less then those would be good value. Unless you want to save every single dollar possible I'd recommend sticking with the AM5 platform. I put a 4TB SSD on that list but you could go down to 2TB to save around $100.

ModHQ,org but pretty much every other mod is on Nexus, and some mod makers have ran away to Discord servers sadly.

There is BasedMods, but it's effectively dead maybe has problems with moderation(?).

It's a shame the ModdingLinked people deleted their Skyrim modding tutorial because it was a fantastic guide. There aren't even archives of it. But you can look at their other guides for general MO2 setup instructions and good modding practices.

If you're playing with a lot of Skyrim mods they can start eating a fair amount of VRAM. There's a mod called SR Exterior Cities which makes the cities part of the open world, removing the loading screen. That mod will very likely put you over the 8GB of VRAM that the lowest end cards have.

Similar story with storage probably, depending on how overkill you really want to get with the mods you throw on. Lists like Nolvus V6 will eat over 600GB and run like shit on anything slower than a 3080Ti.

And you call me a faggot :smug:
i still haven't been exposed in degenerate DMs so yeah, you're still a faggot

can you recommend a good reliable power supply?
