is it worth it if i go nvidia or another brand
I've been using amds since 2014 and never had an issue with gaming. However if you wanted to dabble in doing local AI generation then Nvidia is the way to go. Also a good idea to have the same manufacturer for the CPU and the GPU.

OP is like your high-school ex that ditched you for the star of the football team who was heading to the NFL but the dream died after a knee injury and they now spend their time raising two bastard children on a Workman's Comp income after gaining 85 pounds and messaging you on Facebook desperate for you to take them back.

I always knew Osama was a cheap harlot.

i am somewhat considering selling my ps5 to get a good gaming computer
You already outed yourself as a consolefag, so I'm fully expecting this to not get in, but I'll say it anyway because I have time to kill:

You do not need a "good" gaming computer to play the VAAAAAAST majority of games that are worth playing.

I can't give you price points because you're not in my country - and because I've never bought pre-built computers, I've always Frankensteined the fuckin' things together - but a mid-tier pre-built should be perfectly fine for emulating most platforms and for playing mid-tier indie and older mainstream games.

Hell, my fucking 7 year old Samsung M22 phone only struggles once you get to PS2 onwards.

Don't get a laptop, they're a nightmare to fix or upgrade and you get less performance for the same price as a desktop.

You will never be a real PC gamer, consolefag.
You will never be a PC gamer. You have no emulators, you have no piracy, you have no mods. You are a homosexual man twisted by couches and nintendo into a crude mockery of Korea's perfection.

All the "Achievements" you get use auto-aim at 30 fps. Behind your back FPS gamers mock you. Your parents are disgusted and ashamed of you, your "friend codes" laugh at your ghoulish controller behind closed doors.

FPS players are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of hours of quake have allowed them to sniff out auto-aimers with incredible kill streaks. Even console players who get a "positive" KD ratio look cheaty and unnatural to an FPS player. Your jerky movements are a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get a drunk TF2 player into a crossplay lobby on your 360, he will dominate you and force you to leave the server the second he gets a whiff of your disgusting, drifting control sticks.

You will never enjoy yourself. You wrench out $80 every single year FIFA releases more slop and tell yourself it's going to be okay, but deep inside you feel the debt creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable wage slavery.

Eventually it'll be too much to bear - you'll buy a rope, tie a noose, put it around your neck, and plunge into the cold abyss in minecraft. Your parents will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment. They’ll bury you with a headstone marked with your gamer tag, and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know a console gamer is buried there. Your body will decay and go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is an achievement list showing everyone online what you played.

This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.

Not wrong, but holding onto a 17 year-old petty grudge is really silly. You never said it was a high end gaming laptop shooting for max settings either :^)
It was certainly priced as a high-end gaming PC now or then. Having a 2000 dollar laptop not perform at the cutting edge after less than a year was a mistake I will remember for a very long time.

one of my PCs is in a case that barely stands up right with a mobo held on by two screws, an NVME drive just diagonally in the slot not screwed in, and a GPU held in with tape because the PCIe clip thing broke. the only issue I have is the clip on the ethernet cable is broken so sometimes it falls out. building PCs in 2025 is basically like building with legos and you could be a 85iq retard and still do it right. to be fair though my daily driver is in much better condition

Weren't computers still basically doubling in specs every year or so back then?

Keep an eye on secondhand gpu's. A 20 or 30 series will serve you fine if you're going nvidia. Witcher 3 was pretty much my personal standard for what constitutes a 'beautiful' game and when I'd built my machine the ancient 1660 I got did just fine.
A 20 series GPU is perfect if you're sticking with 1080p. My 2070 Super runs just about everything on medium-high still. Only thing holding it back is the i5 8400, which I intend to upgrade within the next year or so.

Strategy games are what made me make the leap years ago, I had an xbox one and a PC from 2005 and I was spending more time playing the original dawn of war on the shitty old PC.

Once you get a PC you should buy civ and some other strategy games.

Cat girl (most likely trap) profile refers to civ as the go to strategy game. OP don't listen to this evolutionary cul de sac and pick up HOM3 or Dominions 5 or 6.
