yeah I dug it
caught Late Night With The Devil, the recent USA remake
not bad
felt more like somebody was doing a sorta ripoff and the studio realized they had the rights

I guess I appreciate it trying to do a similar concept but hitting different enough stuff, felt it fell apart when things get weird near the end leading to not really much of anything
which is fairly different from the tweest of the Argentina one where things get weird near the end when literally anything happened
I just got back from late night with the devil, and yeah I agree. History was the better movie by far, although late night had some exceptionally cool effects. But yeah, so much of late night seemed kind of pointless? Why involve the bohemian grove at all, like he sold his soul to be Johnny Carson's forgotten competition? Just have him assisted suicide his wife and then come to and realise he'd sacrificed the girl. And why sacrifice the girl? There was a definite point to the ritual in history, what did delroy's very important sacrifice achieve? Although to be fair to the movie, sitting in front of me at the cinema were two old people who I believe must have been transported to the cinema directly from a tonight show audience, because they laughed their ass off at every dumb pun and gag, which was incredibly distracting (the old guy was almost convulsing with laughter at that title card that said happy hall owl een, to give an example.)

And yeah, I think that montage thing was some studio fuckery too.

It's my turn to double post, because I watched two more horror movies last night - The Sleep Experiment and Talk to Me.

Both have been mentioned before in this thread, but briefly The Sleep Experiment is a British take on the old Russian Sleep Experiment creepypasta, while Talk to Me is a thoroughly Aussie seance or ouija style horror flick.

The Sleep Experiment I can't recommend. It's not a bad movie, and considering its shoestring budget and amateur crew, it is actually quite an accomplishment. But it's wasted on a plot that seems to take all of the freaky and cool parts of the original creepypasta and throw them out to focus on... Nothing? And the evil scientist looked like Willem Dafoe wearing a magician costume, and all of his lines sounded like they were dubbed in afterwards by a much heavier man. And it tries to do a saw style twist at the end - Turkish cinema's Willem Dafoe reveals he's a psychopath as the intense soundtrack comes to a crescendo! Who ever could have guessed? Or a better question - who cares? Just show me guys tearing their own skin off to stay awake already. There's a short film called The Russian Sleep Experiment that does a better job of bringing the creepypasta to life, I'd recommend that instead. I've also seen clips of a movie called The Soviet Sleep Experiment, featuring Chris Kattan of all people, but I haven't been able to source a copy to watch.

Talk to Me I definitely recommend however. I am kicking myself for putting off watching this for so long. The trailer and poster made it look like a typical teen girl horror flick, and I found it tiresome that an Australian movie starred a black girl who wasn't aboriginal. But it's actually an excellent teen girl horror flick, I would call it best in class really (although I suspect that means it actually isn't a very good horror movie for teen girls*) and the protagonist Mia is an excellent actress. She carries the idiot ball a lot, but most of the rest of the cast acts pretty much how you'd expect (although they unravel a bit at the end), so it actually conveys her slipping grasp on sanity really well. And some of the imagery in the movie is still with me today, it has some very unsettling scenes.

*The main difference between Talk to Me and a typical teen girl horror is that in a typical teen girl horror the protagonist is a heroine, whose actions save the day, whereas in Talk to Me Mia thinks she is the heroine at every point, but everything she does actually just makes things worse. And I understand why teens might not want to watch that, but horror movies are supposed to make you uncomfortable.

Had the pleasure of seeing the newest Irish horror film Oddity by Damian McCarthy at a film festival recently and it was great! It felt like an extended segment of an anthology movie or episode of Tales From the Crypt, but not in a bad way. A majority of the film takes place in one large room at a creepy countryside estate with other scenes taking place at a mental asylum and an oddity shop. I won't spoil anything other than telling you it's a ghost story (I'm not usually fond of those but this one is a winner) and it involves a creepy wooden man which reminds me of old Chief Woodenhead from Creepshow 2. It really has a classic horror feel to it. It doesn't reinvent the wheel or anything like that, but it does everything right.

And there were no gays, blacks, or troons to be seen throughout the whole picture.
I believe it'll be coming to Shudder eventually.

Saw the Nic Cage starring horror feature "Arcadian" recently. The creature design is truly bizarre, but they feel like they’re from a different film entirely. The creature design and how the creature feature horror played out didn't come together very well, and the movie makers, to me failed to really capitalize on how weird these monsters looked. It felt like for most scenes, you could have swapped them out for a generic CGI werewolf or alien or giant spider or something right out of an uninspired DTV film and nothing much would change. And there was a lot of stretches of just plain boring coming of age/family drama material, to the point where I felt like I had watched this film before, at least some other awfully similar mostly forgettable post-apoc horror-dramas.

I think this is plausible. Helluva coincidence but we don't know if the creature needs oxygen to survive. It was floating out there for a while at the end of Alien and was still alive and kicking. Whose to say that the cold of space could kill it?
I figured out how they get around the coincidence in Alien: Romulus. You could have a salvager team (like the one that found Ripley in cyrostasis) explore the ruins of the Nostromo and that's where they find the big chap.

Bonus points if they have a scene where the Alien is on a ship and a guy just goes "Fuck it!" and kills it and the acid blood eats through the hull causing an almost instant nuclear explosion.

Also, I have slightly more faith in the new Alien flick since it's being moved from a straight to Hulu release to theatrical. So, we'll see.

off at every dumb pun and gag
to be fair they were pretty solid at boomer late-night humor
but yeah there was so much that was, like, started, but not really followed-up on

like this needed a few more passes at the script phase, but it got them in post instead

Got a 7 day trial of shudder to watch Last Night with the Devil, only to find it wasn't on my region. But did watch some stuff on it still

Satan's Slaves 2: Communion a Indonesia horror movie, wasn't stand out in anyway apart from one of the most unintentionally funny deaths scenes I've seen in a movie. it involves a elevator squashing three little kids. Sadly can't find that clip online. Still even with that part wouldn't recommend it, unless you really liked the first one.

Kids vs. Aliens, from the director of Hobo with a Shotgun, and was a big step down from that. Movie is pretty short at 75 minutes but still feels over long that what is here is much better suited to a 20 minute short.

When Evil Lurks, well acted movie with a good premise "When the residents of a small rural town discover that a demon is about to be born among them, they desperately try to escape, but it may be too late.". Something is really off with the story, unsure if it's due to subtitling issues or if it's just lacks some much needed exposition.

The Gates, turd of a movie. Your basic ghost movie with no originality. John Rhys-Davies is alright in it but everyone else is hot shit acting wise.

Shudder is really weird because it advertises itself as a horror streaming service but has nothing worthwhile.
The best thing it had was Adam Greenes 2012 sitcom Holliston, which was a fearnet exclusive, showing his love for the medium.
It's really a waste of your fucking time, and I mean this. I had it for two years, the only good thing is Joe Bob and the occasional episode of tales from the crypt or whatever (that should tell you, I can't even remember what it's called. )
They really are hit or miss, with a lot of fucking misses. The history of nigger horror was so bad it was rage inducing.

Don't even get Joe Bob here, they list it but when you go to watch it just get "not available in your region"

For horror and cult movies, Arrow Player is far better

Shudder was alright I guess, they had some good classics on there but their originals are mostly pretty bad. I love The Sadness and When Evil Lurks but those are the only two that come to mind, the rest i've tried to watch are dogshit. Needless to say it wasn't a subscription I kept for very long. Tubi is still the king of streaming crazy horror movie deep cuts imo
