Now there are a few specialized threads (much love to the living dead megathread) but this one is more about general horror shit, news, reviews of shit you've seen, asking for recommendations, etc...
The thing with horror is that it might be the genre with the most fucking movies released every year with the least actual number of websites and shows covering it. So as a result we're left wading through a bunch of shit movies if you want to pick out gems. So let's share our collective efforts so we can avoid stinkers and discover the smaller indie shit (or mainstream panned movies that are actually good)
I'll start with Bed of the Dead. Two couples show up to a sex club to try swinging for the first time. They end up renting a room with a haunted bed, and if they get off of it, they will die. There are no zombies involved. Less than an hour and a half long. Sounds like shit, doesn't it? It actually isn't.
I mean it's not the greatest movie of all time either, not gonna lie, it's an indie venture and some of the effects are pretty janky, but some of the deaths are gruesome as fuck. It's not stellar but imo definitely worth a watch. I'd give it a solid 3.almost5 out of 5
And Lucky is kind of the opposite. It has great production values, it has solid actors, a solid plot, but it's gonna much better if you can avoid the political and just concentrate on the plot: A woman almost gets murdered by an assailant wearing a mask, and no one is really caring much. Then she learns that it pretty much happens every night, and everyone seems fine with it. And the killer just keeps on coming, and coming, and coming, and people just treat it as a fact of life as she begs for help and attention.
Now the political subtext starts to come through very strong about halfway through, the ~metaphor~ is annoying af but if you can concentrate on the actual plot and avoid caring too much about the OH SO IMPORTANT MESSAGE the woman director and writer are trying to say about men, it can be otherwise fairly enjoyable.
A weak 3 out of 5.
Next up for me: Meander, which is basically Cube but in a pipe, in France. I think, whatever. I'll write about it later.
