My family has frenchies and I agree that they have a slew of health problems. Hasan's, and many other like him, attitude sickens me however. You pick a dog based on whether you can fulfill its needs or not and you pick based on whether it's a healthy breed. Some breeds are prone to serious issues, like frenchies with their IVDD or german shepherds with hip dysplasia, and that should be part of your decision. As much as I love our frenchies, I can't personally advocate for getting one because of the ethical issues that go into breeding them. They can't breed naturally, they can't even give birth naturally. Don't get a frenchie. Ever. Not until the breeders that sell these amazing and funny little personalities can guarantee a more natural, healthy breed.
I think Kaya is a tibetan mastiff, which is an incredibly needy dog when it comes to daily fulfillments. It's an active, intelligent dog breed. A frenchie might've been more his speed when it comes to temperament and physical activity, considering he seems to be a very inactive person outside of his own interests and his streams. But I guarantee he would've gone for a fluffy frenchie or a merle coloured (not a breed standard colour, and to get that fur colouration it means you need to crossbreed it into a frenchie. Usually backyard breeders will use chihuahuas or other small dogs, and to avoid a dog that doesn't look like a frenchie they will keep inbreeding and culling any litters that don't look sufficiently frenchie) and he would have been just as lazy with it as he appears to be with Kaya.
