One hit kills slappers only was fun too since it was 100% ambush based yet screen looking made you have to be really crafty about hiding your exact location (which really only works on that one snowy base map and temple due to their repeated textures).

The 'problem' with Goldeneye is that it was a pioneer in its genre, like Ocarina of Time or Mario64. These games broke new ground, set new standards, and at the time were absolutely mind blowing. Two decades on the techniques, gameplay, presentation, etc have all advanced further and been much refined and polished - everything from the latest COD to Perfect Dark benefitted from Goldeneye's bold exploration of the genre. Unless you have a grasp of the history of game development to see how Goldeneye laid the foundation for every modern 3D shooter it can looks pretty clumsy and crude from a current year perspective.

I'm still waiting for a game newer than Payday to bring back ramping mission objectives. Of all the things Goldeneye did the idea of having expansive maps where you're forced to visit more and more of them as the difficulty increases was a personal favorite of mine.

I don't know how anyone can say Perfect Dark aged better unless we are talking about the remaster. The original is damn near unplayable on original hardware due to all the framerate issues.

You guys know about Spies Don't Die, right? People were doing a remake of Goldeneye and got DMCA'd so now they're just making a spiritual sequel.

Also do you guys know about the ROM hacks for Goldfinger and The Spy Who Loved Me? Goldfinger came out a few years ago and is okay, Spy Who Loved Me is still being worked on I think.

I really got into Goldeneye emulation a few years ago. The game is a blast with mouse and keyboard, and not quite as easy as one would expect. (or maybe I just was rusty after not playing it for a decade)

This and Bomberman 64
Every time a new Bomberman game gets announced I am mildly hyped because I think "maybe this time they'll make another Bomberman 64!"

And they never do. And hey, cool, Bomberman is a classic or something. But uh... Hudson or Konami or whoever owns it now, I have a secret for you: nobody wants to fucking play old-style Bomberman.

Tbh I'd play oldstyle bomberman if they just made something analogous to Puyo Puyo Champions. Sell it for 5 bucks on Steam, fund it with cosmetics, allow local multiplayer. No bullshit, just the game.

64 and all of its nuance is never coming back though. We're never going to have a mainstream game with something as impressive as the rainbow world or the planets in Blast Corps hidden behind a difficulty wall again.

I remember when playing with my brother and friends that we turn off score limit and just spent a night killing each other in Complex. Playing slappers only was fucking hilarious.

I was wondering what they were up to, Goldeneye Source is pretty awesome for what it is.

Did the leak also come with the source code, or is it all just binaries?

The file doesnt come with source code

Played through the first three missions on Xenia (Dam,Silo,Airyard) and there is a list of what it has and what it doesnt

  1. The game runs at 60 fps that's good and bad because the devs compensated it by making Bond blazingly fast
  2. Because he is now super fast the game became too easy if you know what you are doing even 00 agent means nothing
  3. Twin sticks movements lower the difficulty even more, the AI of the enemy is designed to believe you are with a single stick Nintendo 64 controller so you can turbo rape them very easily
  4. Screenshot_255.png Yep they still have that bug that was not fixed here
  5. You can still do the same tricks from the Nintendo 64 version like killzones in the area down the bathroom and in the security room
Practically speaking is Goldeneye 007 but with the framerate limiter removed, enemy behavior has not changed AT ALL,no fancy menu, no fancy multiplayer, supposedly the entire game including the extra levels are included in HD, in the end, is good, is goldeneye 64 with better resolution and thats it

If it is anything like playing it with mouse and keyboard 60fps with emulation, these things kind of stop being helpful (and are sometimes a hinderance) once you get past the intro levels and into the more enclosed, corridor levels. Also enemies begin to be at the ready in certain levels so there is no delay to their shooting.

I'll suspect that the lack of fog will help with the turrets in Jungle though.

Think it'll be possible to play the multiplayer online somehow?

Graslu00 showcased that you can do it on Xenia through the system link option.
