They’re literally making exponentially more money and selling exponentially more tickets than the attitude era. The only people who think we’re not in a boom period right now are people so caught up in the past they think “rating number lower mean no boom”. This era financially destroys the attitude era even if you take out Saudi shows and like 2 of the weekly TVs. They have multiple multi billion dollar deals lol. Even if you just did raw vs raw. Hell if you gave the attitude era RAW SD HEAT and PPVs and just compared it to RAW today. RAW exponentially makes more money.

More money doesn't mean more popular. If you unironically think wrestling is as popular now as it was when Austin or Hogan were running wild, you're a mark.

The slop wrestling content creators that range from Meltzer to Russo fail to understand this point you made. The WWE is a content machine that companies use to generate revenue. Think about it like this; on youtube the WWE generates 20 to 30 million views daily. With ad revenues, WWE is a money making machine for youtube. This is just youtube. Netflix, ESPN, Hulu, and Peacock have their ad tier buy ins.

Meltzer continues to focus on a dead model of ratings to prove his delusions (and hurts AEW). Russo still thinks statistical data is measured the same as in 1999. From Meltzer to Russo to Cornette to Dutch to Stevie, they are slop for the ones who enjoy slop. If you listen to Konnan these days, you can tell someone in WWE showed him the business model.

it might genuinely be if you factor in global views, but then someone will just argue with me that Indians don’t count as human and I don’t feel like disputing that.

I despise the attitude era specifically and entirely because a group of fans from that era have stuck around wrestling for 25 years after the fact to cry and bitch and moan about how wrestling is terrible now and dead or dying and they no longer watch and they’re the loudest of faggots about it and have an opinion on every wrestler they don’t watch but refuse to leave. It’s genuinely sad as shit.

We've been chasing that high for almost 30 years and nothing in our eyes will ever compare to it. Wrestling is objectively better now, better athletes, better matches, but the surrounding culture is what helped make the Monday Night Wars and that's when you realize that will never be replicated. The mask is off, the internet is too wide-spread and culture is too jaded on pro wrestling. The most talked about wrestling event in the last two decades has been a guy getting nearly murdered at a mudshow in California.

I ask on behalf of my fellow millenial Monday Night Wars bretheren, go easy on us. We've worked ourselves into a shoot chasing a time we can never go back to.

Exactly this. It's why they've nearly eliminated house shows. It cost money to run them. Now they can just bank of content. They have deals with USA Network, NBC, Netflix, ESPN, and they still need to find a home for their back catalog.

I'm not sure if they even release physical copies of the events anymore. Which is also strategic as royalties for streaming are considerably less than for physical media. Not sure there is a way to track streaming the historical content.

Example if I watched the WM18 match of Hogan vs Rock do they get a royalty from that? Does everyone on the card? No one knows.

I've heard Wrestlers say since the rise of streaming the royalty checks are next to nothing. Which is why a lot of legacy talent sign Legends deals for merch and other things.

This isn't a secret.

Wrestlers use to get paid a piece of the PPV pie and home video residuals. Wrestlers don't get a dime of live premium events deals or streaming.

Which is why it's funny when people talk about how much a wrestling boom we are in. It's all artificial. Dying media companies are paying top dollar for live content because they think it's the only way to retain viewers. Shithole places are cutting sweetheart deals to try to get events in their area. WWE is squeezing their fanbase for every penny they can while baking ads into the product.

It's all going to come crashing down one day.

The entire economy works this way. WWE isn't really special in this regard. Vince was just too stubborn to capitalize.

There are artificial elements to the boom, but numbers don't lie at the end of the day. People are paying to see the product.

I think it’s a major increase on the downside guarantee. LA Knight was rumored to be getting a 1.5 million dollar per year downside with merch percentage. Penta rumored to sign a 850k guaranteed a year contract but supposedly has already hit a million dollar year with 3 months left. The royalty payouts are gone, but the wrestlers do make a ton more on guarantees and merch sales.

Exactly. Vince just stayed on the old 1999 WWE model. There is only one organization in the entire world who can dictate terms to all these companies and that is the NFL.

This is why I have such an issue with everything related to streaming being so segmented now, I’ll still watch the Big 5 PPVs next year but im not going to stay subbed to ESPN monthly that’s too much of a fucking shake-up, ill play my Vidya and watch the vtubers that I like, I dont think dividing RAW SmackDown and the PLEs into seperate things is a good idea, people already mostly consume WWE through clips on YouTube, and im saying this as the biggest E-Drone on the internet

On one hand, I can see why WWE/TKO would be happy to bite on the truckloads of $$ people are throwing at them, but we seem to be reaching a point where all of their shows are going to end up behind some paywall, and in the long run, I don't think that's a good model for wrestling.
