I was going to say Arkane's Prey as well. It and Disco are my favorite games to come out in the last 10+ years. It really put the immersive in immersive sim for me with its commitment to its cool art-deco-in-space style.
I think they could have taken the game further as an imsim but the genre isn't shifting copies. Massive shame. Arkane is/was the last player in the AAA space still making them (I think). I've tried to get into some indies but they've mostly been kinda crap, and now that 3D Realms has run to the hills, the one I was actually looking forward to, Core Decay, might never come out.
The best parts of the game for me are when you enter the space station's service tunnels and maintenance areas, and all the cool architecture gives way to cold pragmatism and utility.
The GUTS caught me completely off guard the first time. It's a slog going from psychotronics to the arboretum early on when you might not be carrying any radiation meds or that much ammo for the goo gun. I really didn't like it initially but now I'm in the same boat as you - it's a welcome juxtaposition against the rest of the station.
Really cool enemy design as well. Despite them all being essentially black slimes, the variety in what they can do and how you have to fight them is great. Made me very surprised when I heard people criticize Deathloop for only having boring man-with-gun style enemies, because I know Arkane is/was capable of much more.
Goo-ing up enemies early and trying to shatter them is nice but sadly every gameplay nuance gets drowned out by the powerhouse of combat focus > psychoshock > shotgun or stun gun. Even nightmares on the highest difficulty go down to this in about one fully upgraded shotgun mag.

I could sperg about this game all day but I'll save it.

Arkane's Prey has a reputation for being proto-woke, though it's mostly awkwardly inserted lesbianism (no troons). The game's other issues eclipse any woke elements, though I still find it to be quite good overall. The last decent game Arkane made.
LOL people bitch about Prey?

I vaguely remember there being a lesbian couple. If people are bitching about that then it has come full circle to Right-wingers freaking out over every little thing. The game has no wokeness at all. Faggots exist in real life.

Yeah, I don't really mind it but I can understand how autistically combing media for wokeshit could lead to that conclusion. Also, those lesbian's audio logs were super annoying but that's more of an issue with the dialogue than the lesbians themselves.

Dishonored 2 was WAY more woke and it came out a year or two before.

Well that's why they made an achievement for doing one run as full human and one run as full typhon. And if a little steam notification doesn't pop up in the corner of my screen to tell me I did a good job what's even the point of playing games?

That said the game stank of wokeness more than just the irritating lesbians nonsense (which was a little weird at one point, the one Asian lesbian essentially leverages her senior position to blackmail the other chick to go on a date with her, and it's never commented on. That seems cancellable).
On top of it every single white man expert on the ship is an over the top arrogant blowhard in the logs, and the straight men in general (including Alex and Morgan) are all responsible for everything wrong.
The cook is, of course, a white guy (not American this time though), and he does what he did. That one prisoner who committed the heinous crimes who you have the option of typhon-ing is a white guy.
There's like one normal straight white guy in the whole game, and he's a minor side character.

Meanwhile every single brown woman (there are very few white ones) is competent and no-nonsense yet compassionate and down to earth in that way the lefties like to portray them.

Oh plus the irritating lesbian does die which is good, but if I'm not mistaken she's one of the only characters alive when you meet them that you can't kill yourself. You find out the one black chick with the accent died, but her corpse is surrounded by a bunch of dead typhon in order to make sure you know she was totally a badass while she was alive.

Overall playing on the hardest difficulty I found it engaging on a gameplay basis which is all I care about, but I definitely rolled my eyes and made a few un-PC remarks to myself while playing.

Night in the Woods.

A pretty fucking good game, storyline-wise, a lot to do to discover the town and a lot of details you can explore.

Mae best girl.

Do tell please, without getting too spoilery, of course. I have yet to play it, only because it ran like shit on my old pc when it first came out and I never really had much interest because of that + some point early in the game where you had to go through some insect infested abandoned home or whatever to get to the other side and it bothered the fuck out of me. Plus I knew it could never live up to the first one for me so it's just been sitting on ice for 8 years.

Rest in Peace, Alec Holowka, the one dev who wasn’t a complete woke retard that actually cared about the music, story and message past “hurr durr liberals good”. I’m confident that without him the game would’ve just been an unplayable piece of trash full of faggy political messaging and virtue signaling.

I replayed the game some time ago. And yeah, there are a lot of times where I just rolled my eyes at the political messages shoe-horned into the game. The Library scene in the poetry group was especially egregious with how much in-your-face it was.

But after you pass that, you actually have a game with an actually intriguing plot and an amazing protagonist that has to deal with her own personal problems in a dying town.

Oh, I didn’t want to seem like I disagreed, it is definitely worth playing. It’s just easier to play knowing that all the dumb moments were likely inserted by Scott himself and don’t really reflect the entire game as a whole. I particularly liked the ending, and how hanging out with certain friends can lead to different outcomes and dialogues with others.

Alan wake II was recieved well until the SBI involvement with some part of it got made public knowledge, and a lot of my friends that fucking hate SBI still like the game even after that. It's probably because there's actually like effort/heart put into it that shines beyond the stupid vague fucking DEI additions. It's one of those games though were you probably have to play the first two or be aware of what's going on previously to understand what the fuck is going on, rock opera recap segment aside.

I remember with Night in the woods people initially fucking HATED it because of the forced stupid politics shit in it being at the forefront and reserved the game for only shitposting about it, fuck I did too. Eventually it became really clear though there was a lot more going on than just that and all those added in reddit/twitter politics jargin was from ONE of the 2 main guys that made it. And then a little after the game started getting actually liked and more decently recieved the guy that wasn't behind those politics tangents got fucking pushed to suicide because he lost fucking everything over easily disprovable claims while already dealing with a ton of shit in his life to start with. Really fucking hate everything surrounding that even a few years later. I cannot emphasize enough how you should not buy the fucking game as the money's now solely going to actual skinwalker soy golem snakes.

Oh, no doubt about that. Everytime I played this game, I pirated it, the game is really good but no way in hell I'll give my money to those treacherous snakes that led a man into suicide.

Zoe Quinn is a disgusting human being.

Guild Wars 2 is not inherently woke, but some of the writers over the years have clearly tried to ham fist certain topics into some of the storylines or characters. There's some lesbos, and one nonbinary shitstain. The writing is childish for the most part, with the exception of some nuance unexpectedly in the most recent expansion. But I love the gameplay and the sense of rushing with zergs of other people. If you want to do PvE, you'll have a ton of fun. If you do their realm vs realm, you'll never have to deal with softies. The devs are 100% pozzed, but they realize that they're a business first and foremost.

None of the wokeshit is really a spoiler, especially if you've played the first.
  • Delilah returns as the girlboss villain. That is and of itself isn't woke so much as lazy but it is an avenue for using her lesbianic coven as the primary antagonistic faction.
  • Emily is now a playable protagonist. Again, not woke in a vacuum but comes at the expense of replacing Corvo as the protag. There are a couple of notes that imply she's in a relationship with a deliberately sex-ambiguous individual.
  • For some reason, Billie Lurk is in the game as the token wise negress master of the hub area. She's the protagonist in Death of the Outsider but that game doesn't exist.
  • There's a side objective in the first Karnacka mission that has you deliver a corpse to a tranny.
  • The aforementioned coven. Their dialogue is tumblr tier mega cringe.
  • Every prominent male figure is portrayed as weak, egomaniacal, or evil. Every prominent woman is portrayed as competent, powerful, a victim, or merely misunderstood. Now that I think about it, yes @Ultrapenguin, I can see parts of Dishonored 2 in Prey.
On top of that, almost every returning system or feature is a downgrade. My biggest personal gripe was that the level design is much worse, with two exceptions: Addermire is a sick level and there's a sort of good gimmick level later in the game. The clockwork mansion that was in all the trailers is a load of bullshit and completely uninteresting. Harvey Smith was too busy lusting for Anita Sarkeesian's greasy crumbs to make a worthy sequel.

I don't know about "reputation", because nobody has ever heard of the game, but... Star Renegades. Faggiest, wokest writing imaginable. Incredibly unique and interesting turned based RPG roguelite.
