Who wants a London GP?

Fuck London, fuck (most) street circuits and fuck London.

On the bright side they have yet to give any brief cases of money.
The area around the Royal Docks is a peculiar peripheral part of East London, caught between a grim network of pedestrian-unfriendly arterial roads and a buckled meander in the end course of the River Thames. Like most of the Docklands, the area has been redeveloped, but in a purposeless and piecemeal manner that somehow preserved the air of desolation that pervaded after all the shipping went to Tilbury and elsewhere. The only landmarks are the small airport and a mated pair of white elephants - a cable car that ploughs back and forth between two nowhere destinations on either side of the river, and on the opposite bank, the former Millennium Dome (now the O2 where, for the price of several hundred pounds, you too can ascend the terrifyingly precipitous tiered seating and watch a tiny, shit-sounding version of your favourite band ). Silverton and North Woolwich were a bit rough the last time I was in that neck of the woods. I had a bad experience in a pub there but that was a while back. It may have gentrified since then.

From the point of view of holding a street race in an area of the Capital where it is unlikely to cause too much disruption, it's the obvious choice. It is also outside the congestion charge zone, which mean the drivers won't have to pay as they go round the circuit. That being said, street races are about showing off a city, more than the racing itself (or in the case of Monaco, celebrating the legacy of the sport and allowing any F1 tax exiles the opportunity to walk to work). All the London landmarks - Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, Big Ben, The Eye, M&Ms World are all miles away to the west, which is a different world; almost a different city.

Then there is the proposed track layout, which gave me what I can only describe as the opposite of an orgasm.

TL;DR: Besides people who want a London GP, but don't want to hold it in the centre of the Capital, this will please no-one.

Every few years the ideas of London and NYC Street curcuits get banded about. Everyone realises it would cost too much, be a shit track and no one asked for it anyway and it goes away again.

I'm just hoping one of the murica circuits (preferably Vegas because fuck that entire idea, its just so you can show "celebrities" and who goves a fuck about the racing) has another indy 2005 style fuck up that puts them off the idea of turning the whole thing into an American series. It would also be great if every possible attempt to get a freedom Eagle team involved does a Andrea Moda or virgin racing and puts them all off turning F1 into indy car 2.

So after the first practice sessions: do you guys think Ferrari is simply doing training with reduced power or is their car this bad for Djidda? On another note you think we might get a Alonso P2 this race? Certainly looks like it Alonso is on fire now that he has a racy car again

Anyone one watching the Sebring WEC race? The first stream I found and the chat was discussing Ethan Ralph and Drachenlord lmao
I watched all of it, pretty good. The stream I had on had no chat lol.

Also "time certain" is the faggiest way to say "timed race".

In other news Hamilton does the standard black guy thing of getting young white blonde woman, using her up, then discarding her.

That was a fun qualifying and should be an interesting race. I got to say, I didn't have "Lance Stroll being good" on my 2023 bingo card.

Maybe he needs to be injured to focus. I can't help but picture Aston Martin people intentionally leaving stuff for him to trip on or clipping him with vehicles.

Maybe Alonso is a good influence on him? Not to diminish Seb's role in developing Stroll the Younger, but you could just tell his heart wasn't in racing during his last couple of seasons.

I kind of saw him as sort of a marginally better Latifi. Like he only has the ride because his daddy was funding the team.

The cars seem light years better than last year. It will be interesting to see how long the team can keep it going.

I thought Alonso going to Aston Martin was insane and would sort of be a repeat of Seb's last year. So clearly, no one place any value in my opinion.

Stroll has more talent then Latifi. Don't forget during the chaos race in Baku 2017 he kept a level head and finished P3 (would have been P2 but Bottas did a last minute overtake on the finish line) And Let's not forget his Pole in Turkey 2020 and podium in Bahrain. Yes he isn't shining when the car is shit (unlike Alonso for example) but he is usually a decent driver (unless he forgets to look in his fucking mirrors). And imho one of the best starters in F1. He was one of the drivers who gained the most positions right at the start

Thanks for clearing it up Toto Wolff!
God I hate this fucking modern celebrity culture. Total Drive-to-Survive-watcher Death now.
I didn't have "Lance Stroll being good" on my 2023 bingo card.
Let's not forget he hit Alonso on like turn one in Bahrain

Someone heard about the curios case at the WEC Sebring race? The leading Oreca was shut down because the TV camera which was installed in the car was apparently barred loose by the bumpy Sebring course and hit the "Kill Switch" which shut down the entire car. This switch is usually meant for race marshals to shut off the car from the OUTSIDE

Oh so THAT'S what happened.

The 12 hours was better anyway. And it's time to go, though with the network issues I'm thinking I'm going to be lonely in here. :D
