Well, they themselves said winning W series gives you nothing. I don't know what they were thinking about when they created W series, and what they want to do with that new series, I guess it's all a "two more years! Two more seasons! Two more divisions!" paying lip face until we see actually competing women in F2... At some point. To even think about F1.

It always should have been a stipend instead of yet another support series barely anyone gives a shit about in a world where there's already a million other junior formulae competing for prospects. The number 1 problem of every up-and-coming racing driver who didn't come out of a billionaire's wife has always been money. Money makes and breaks your opportunities, ensures you have the right people and tools to set-up the car.

Leclerc is so morose and existential that it is easy to lose sight of the fact that he came second in the championship in a team who don't seem to like him very much and whose tactics were inspired by Laurel & Hardy, and in a car whose development was taken off the boil partway through the season. One always assumes that Sainz is hard on his heels when, in terms of final points tallies, he was nowhere near.

I thought Hamilton became more tolerable in the latter half of the season. Maybe that was because we were seeing less of him, but he did seem to finally knuckle down and dial back his stroppy teenager persona. I wonder if he sees the writing on the wall. Nine podiums to Russell's eight and he still trails in at sixth on the leader board, with his teammate in fourth.

We seem to have closer racing but the drop off from Hamilton on 240 points to Norris on 122 paints a very clear picture of 3 dominant teams and the rest of the field mixing it up. Red Bull might struggle with budget caps. I have a suspicion that Mercedes are going to come back hard in 2023.

It was nice to see Vettel leave the sport with dignity. Shame about Schumacher. He has a name that comes with a lot of expectation, but his dad isn't in a position to guide him.
